My little brother gets married soon. They are both the youngest in the families so both sides of the families have been to a few weddings in the past couple of years and they are struggling to try and do somethings/touchs a little different or unique.

I just wondered if anyone could give me either a few ideas I could pass onto them OR come up with something I could do for their big day.

Oh, and instead of hiring a car, a friend of my parents' offered to do up his 1956 landrover. I was a bit at first, but it was fantastic. They covered it in flowers and greenery from the garden, and made a kind of bamboo bower over the open back, and we sat in it facing backwards. A really nice personal touch, whice everyone commented on.

While my brother and SIL were signing the register, they had a bagpipe player walk through the church! It was a complete surprise for everyone and really beautiful.

That video was fab WT!

Now if he did that routine every day he would soon lose weight!

My sis had a Riverdance copy troupe do a display dance at her wedding and then they got everyone up dancing - it was good fun.

I went to a lovely wedding where the ceremony was v close to the reception.

Bride and groom walked down the aisle after the ceremony and then slipped off to some kind of ante-room.

Guests all left expecting to find them outside - they weren't yet. We lined up between the ceremony and the reception armed with confetti and then the bride and groom came out and walked between everyone throwing confetti
It was lovely.

I remember when disposable cameras on the table seemed like such a new idea! Everyone does it now...

There was a children's entertainer between the afternoon and evening do at one wedding we went to - seemed like a good idea.

A wedding I went to had a photographer with a polaroid camera who took a picture of every couple/group etc as they went into the dining room. Then during the meal he put a pic on each page of a book and the book was passed around so everyone could write a message by their photo. It was lovely (and of course a few drinks helped everyone's creative writing - very funny memento!)

A friend was at a "do" recently where there was an artist who did caricatures of any guests who wanted one.

My friend had a caricaturist at her wedding. He was really good and we have a brilliant one of DH, DD and me.

My DH got on stage and played guitar with the band at the end of the night. Nobody knew he was going to do it and it was great.

We had a charicaturist on the day, so done everyones charicatures for them, some many people have them up on their walls still!

we had fortue cookie wedding favours with a personal message on, plus i had small candles made that were clear gel with small rose buds sunk in which all the ladies got to take home.

after a v posh 7course meal we had bacon butties for the evening buffet!

we had a friend who is a singer to sing our first dance song with the band backing her.

the video guys also asked anyone who wanted too to have a message filmed - which was lovely when we got the dvd back to see these messages, especially from people like grandparents.

we had a traditional guest book - but i did think of getting a plate, everyone signs and then you get it sealed, there is a company that do this.

oops, x post

We had gingerbread hearts with our names and the date of the wedding on them.

DH is German so it was a nice touch.

I have also done the polaroid album for my cousin, only we got the guests to hold a large picture frame (framing themselves). It was a good laugh and there were some really funny photos.

My brother is planning on making bottles of herb olive oil as favours.

At one of my best friends' weddings, the guests took over from the cheesy wedding band (instruments and all) and played for the rest of the night (the new lead singer/best man announcing helpfully in broken english "don't worry: I used to be in punk band in Italy....")

Fortunately, they could actually play, and there were stoned bridesmaids on backing vocals. The relatives loved it (but maybe they were just that type of family...).
