My little brother gets married soon. They are both the youngest in the families so both sides of the families have been to a few weddings in the past couple of years and they are struggling to try and do somethings/touchs a little different or unique.

I just wondered if anyone could give me either a few ideas I could pass onto them OR come up with something I could do for their big day.

We bought a large card mount (for a photograph) and had everybody sign/write a message on it with silver pens. Then after the event we got our favorite photo enlarged and mounted it with the sighed mount in a lovely frame.

Also, for favors we got little pieces of Brighton rock candy with our names written inside it, like this, but in lilac, 'theme' colour of the event.

we got married at a fort in cornwall , we hired the whole place (this is a long time ago) and had a big picnic, with baskets, potted shrimps, cornish pasties, scones and clotted cream and stuff for the wedding breakfast then fish and chipsin newspaper in the evening where we had a disco on the lawn. It was fab!

TheWiltedRose · 17/03/2008 20:32

WT that was brill did anyone know you were going to do it!?

geordiemacminx · 17/03/2008 20:33

How about this

Astrophe · 17/03/2008 20:34

My BIL and his DW had a little cage/box with some butterflies in, which they opened at a significant moment in the ceremony (outdoors obv), and they were all supposed to flutter out prettily, symbolising...??? something. But instead, they all sat in their box with their wings folded up, and had to be turned upside down shaken out, which made less pretty really, and kind of lame. So don't do that!

hifi · 17/03/2008 20:36

sorry wandering, i have been on there about 20mins, vv funny, wished me and dh had done something like that. really looks like it would break the ice.

Astrophe · 17/03/2008 20:38

Beware the disposable cameras - friend of mine did this, her mother went round and collected them at the end of the night and got the pictures developed. There were a lot of grainy, blurred photos of various arses, knobs and bollocks. We never did find out whose but some of the ushers were suspected.

Astrophe · 17/03/2008 20:56

WT, you would have been fine, as the butterflies did nowt. Once they were shaken out, they flew about 50cm and sat in the bush behind BIL and SIL. It was very hard not to laugh at that solemn moment.

at a wedding i went to recently, there was a 'how well do you know the bride and groom?' quiz on every table which was great fun, really helped break the ice.

princessosyth · 17/03/2008 21:07

I love the bacon sarnies and the little notes idea!

Agree with Moondog about the barn dance, we had a barn dance for the first 2 hours of the evening reception and everyone was up from 80 year old nan to the toddlers, it really broke the ice. We then had a disco and because everyone had already lost their inhibitions and had downed enough alcohol they all stayed on the dance floor for the Prodigy (twas 1996 ).

MyDingaling · 17/03/2008 21:20

One wedding I went to had the tables named after chocolate bars eg milky bar, dairy milk etc. Each table containrd a huge basket of the chocolate bar instead of favours

Poledra · 17/03/2008 21:21

At my wedding, my sister gave to a number of guests an envelope containing a small square of paper with drawing on it, and a grid reference on the back. They were then pointed towards the sheet of paper on a flipchart with a grid marked out and a box of crayons on the ledge underneath. They each had to draw their square of the picture onto the flipchart. So we now have in a frame the picture drawn for us by our guests, and next to it a minature showing what the picture should look like. As someone managed to draw their square upside down, it's not an exact replica....

hifi · 17/03/2008 22:03

i dont know if its a trdition at a greek wedding but when the final speech was made we all had to look at the back of our chairs and see if there was a different coloured ribbon, if so you took the table decoration. saved a lot of scraps.

bilblio · 17/03/2008 22:30

My brother had a few daffodil bulbs for everyone as their wedding favours. It's great to see them flowering every year.
They also had the words to their first dance printed on cards which they handed out, and they were attached to the bags of bulbs too. Not for people to sing along to, but just because they were significant.

A mate also did the bacon butties (mozzarella and tomato butties for the veggies) and chips at 10pm. They were Fab! Definitely eased the hangovers the next day.

newgirl · 18/03/2008 09:33

i love that video - that is hilarious!

ChicaLovesHerLocalGreengrocer · 18/03/2008 09:49

At our wedding (parents garden and then barn), we made a child friendly area with just a big rug and a huge box of duplo. It kept them all happy and entertained, even the 10 year olds. Would definitely recommend something like that.
