Teepee Sleepover Parties - Warning!!

Please avoid this company at all costs! They look legit but will take your money for your child's party and not show on the day nor refund any payment afterwards. We recently fell foul, the website looks professional and communication up until the day of party was good but it is all fake. The lady who owns this Company is Kate Smith (has used other names in past - Kate Brown) and apparantly has appeared on the TV programme Rip Off Britain for a similar scam she ran regarding children's pamper parties. Lots of negative info regarding the 'grumpy but georgeous' company on the internet but not much on the teepeesleepoverparties yet as this is the latest business (SCAM!!) to be set up.

I booked a teepee for 3 nights back in June with the Teepee Sleepover Company. When I booked it I was unable to find any negative reviews. The website was very professional, Katie was very polite via email and it all seemed very professional.

At the time of my booking there was a Facebook page for Teepee Sleepover Parties with photos of Tamzin Outhwaite (I see she has liked their latest Instagram post) and her teepee so I thought it was legitimate. The Facebook page is no longer there. I paid my deposit and remaining balance 7 days before.

Only on the morning of delivery, 30th July, I thought it was strange that I had not had a confirmed time that it would arrive. I tried the phone number on the website and it didn’t connect. So I started to google and read all the horrendous reviews about this company. Katie got back to me eventually via email saying she would be there at 6pm which was going to be too late. I was dubious and challenged her asking if she was really going to arrive or whether I would have 8 disappointed girls on my hands. She asked me to give her the opportunity to prove that the Internet reviews were not true and have the “decency” to tell her if I’d arranged alternative plans so they don’t have a wasted trip. I had paid £300 so wanted the tent but also didn’t want to take a risk so managed to source a smaller tent which was in place by 3pm still leaving room for the larger tent.

I asked Katie to provide me with a phone number or to call me a number of times during the day. She ignored these requests. Apparently too busy to phone but able to email. Customer service is non-existent.

At 5pm I had a phone call from a call handler with an out of area number saying that they were on their way and would be with me by 6pm.

They arrived around 5.45pm. I showed them where I wanted the tent and as soon as they saw the other tent her partner started to shout and swear in front of my daughter and her friends and stormed off back to the hire van, threw a box into the back and slammed all the doors. He said he was fed up and to give me a refund. I have still not received my refund and expect I never will 🤦‍♀️.

I have filed a report with the police and with Action Fraud. She failed to deliver on her part of our contract. She had researched me before arriving - obviously to ensure that I wasn’t a lawyer or worked for the BBC.

There is a long history of similar incidents of fraud with her as a Director. Do your research and never part with money before the product or service has been delivered to your satisfaction.

We dealt with theses people in Crete and finally tracked them to the midlands where they had started a parcel delivery scam, please see
parcel Delivery Crete Scam as we have reported them to the fraud squad.

CharlieT - we're owed a considerable amount of money in unpaid wages and expenses by these people. I've PM'd you, if you could let me have the addresses they've used?

3threedaughters · 16/09/2018 12:56

Hello everyone. Sadly we were conned by Teepee Sleepover Parties yesterday. I booked back in June and booked 12 teepees which cost £570. Yesterday I was expecting Kate to arrive at 2pm as per her email of a few days ago. At about 3pm she emailed me and said she was stuck on the M25 and will be there at 4pm. At 5pm I decided to call to see what was happening which is when I found out that the number I was given was false and then I came across this feed. After reading in total disbelief that this was happening to us, I still had hope she would arrive even if it was very late. Well she never turned up and never responded to any of my further emails. I am in utter shock that this has happened. Like all of you, I am sad that she ruined our children's birthday parties. I just hope people see these reviews before any more of us get robbed!

EggysMom · 16/09/2018 13:09

Is this the same Katie that was running Little Divaz UK back in 2010? My DH was one of the MSE posse hunting her down then ... I cannot believe she is still doing this.

DulcieD · 16/09/2018 13:14

EggysMum, yes it is the same Kate.

Totally gutted for you 3threedaughters. I’m still furious about it. Make sure you report to action fraud. x

keyislaoz · 16/09/2018 17:35

hi i too have been conned by teepeesleepovers this weekend.
wish I had done more research on the company.
booked it a while back paid the deposit and then paid the remaining monies as per the terms and conditions 7 days prior to the date.
had contact with Kate up until late Thurs evening. She asked what time can they arrive from and I had been allocated a tribal tent. said she would come back to me with a time they would arrive. so Friday morning I still had not heard anything emailed her...tried the phone number...which was not connected and heard nothing from her.....NO SHOW!!!
so i had a very upset 11 year old girl and 8 friends.....
how can someone be so cruel and do this to children . Kate obviously has no morals.
I will report her for fraud.
don't be fooled by the website looks very professional ....I have noticed that there are no reviews on there....now we know why.
also the Instagram site has the commenting turned off as well.
I am also cross with myself for falling for this and am heart broken for my daughter.
I had pulled this party 4 weeks early for her birthday so i could guarantee the weather for it.
but have been left with nothing but upset. the woman is just pure evil.

3threedaughters · 17/09/2018 09:22

I was just wondering did you all manage to get your money back through your bank?

keyislaoz · 17/09/2018 11:18

I'm at the bank now...I'll let you know...

Bellabudd21 · 17/09/2018 11:45

So sorry to hear more of you have had this done to you and your children. I am still furious about it. I received a refund of the amount I’d paid via debit card which is protected but not the remaining amount I’d paid via bank transfer. I will be much more careful with methods of payment from now on.

3threedaughters · 17/09/2018 16:30

Thank you, I will call my bank tomorrow and will also let you know how I got on. I filled out the online form for Action Fraud today. I am wondering if so many people have been conned by her and also contacted Action Fraud - why has she not been arrested? It doesn't make sense does it?

keyislaoz · 17/09/2018 20:29

I'll be completing the fraud report tomorrow.
I will know more with regards to the bank in the next couple of days.

Isabelle2000 · 06/10/2018 08:15

This is disgusting!! We too have been victims of this scam.

Kate took the deposit, then I became aware of the scam and asked her to explain the trust pilot reviews. She then became abusive, and finally sent an email saying that she would not work for someone who had been rude to her.

I requested the deposit back but she has fallen silent.

Since sharing posts on Facebook about this company three people in one week have contacted me saying she too has scammed them and ruined children's parties.

I’ve reported her to Trading Standards who need everyone to do the same. It is a crime, so hopefully she can be found and prosecuted. She never has any intention to provide the service when you pay, so though she tries to turn it into a civil disputes, it is infact fraud.

How can we all create some means of getting in touch?

Trading Standards feel this is a big enough case to involve the police with. Let’s get this woman stopped!

Mastey · 06/10/2018 09:24

You must fill in an Action Fraud report on line. This is how you report to the police. If they receive a number of complaints they will take action. They take a while to respond though so sit tight. Revenge is best served cold.

Isabelle2000 · 06/10/2018 10:22

Trading standards also want people to report their cases to them.

Still do Action Fraud, but due to the scale of what ‘Kate’ is doing, she could be traced and criminally prosecuted. If enough evidence is passed to Trading Standards and Action Fraud, the police will investigate her.

Consumer Advice Line for Trading Standards is 03454 04 05 06, and open 9-5.

I have been advised that they will respond to the case faster than Action Fraud

SammyBlueBloss · 06/10/2018 21:36

Hi, I’ve just joint mumsnet after seeing this thread! It’s my 8 year olds birthday party today and after being recommended this company by a friend (hence I didn’t search) and receiving emails up until last night. I have now been blocked on social media and ignored! Luckily dreamy dens came to the rescue so I didn’t have to let down 9 7-8 year olds! But I honestly cannot believe someone can do this! Any advice on what I can do to a) get my £ back and b) make as many people know what these scumbags are doing! Thank you in advance xxx

Mastey · 06/10/2018 21:55

SammyBlueBloss - depends how you paid? If direct from your bank you won’t get your money back. You need to register the incident with Action Fraud and Trading Standards.

Transferred it ☹️ The bank seems to think if we haven't heard from them by midnight they will be able to get the money back to us! I haven't read all this thread yet but just can't get over how someone can do this! X

Rachelforlife · 07/10/2018 18:41

Think I’ve been let down by this same company, luckily sleepy teepee UK came to the rescue. I’m going to complain to my bank. Fuming!

Isabelle2000 · 07/10/2018 21:24

Please please report to Trading Standards and Action Fraud. Due to the scale this has now changed from a civil dispute to criminal matter. With enough reports police can trace her and begin action against her.

Heart goes out to anyone that has like us, been scammed and has had children let down on birthdays.

She is disgusting, and we all need to act together to get her behind bars.

She has a long history of fraud.

Swindale1603 · 10/10/2018 15:27

Hi,

I've got a party booked with this company for my daughter for this Saturday, can anyone give me any advice on what I am best to do? I don't want to let my daughter down.
