The Playmobil coppers all have handguns too I agonised about that for about 30 secs

Clary · 06/03/2007 09:43

Oh well if you guys say it's OK I'll go for it then.

YesMarina forgot about the coppers. And the castle DS2 now has has all manner of nasties, pikes and swingy things and other stuff I can't name but looks like medieval instruments of torture.

tortoiseSHELL · 06/03/2007 09:43

The best party bag we EVER got had a pirate kit in it - patch, headscarf and foam dagger!

Spidermama · 06/03/2007 09:43

If you really felt ok about this sort of party behaviour, I mean really deep down felt proud of yourselves for handing out the haribos so freely, why would you need to start a defensive thread about it?

I adore this sort of transparency. I know I'm on the right track when I'm called a ponce by cod.

I DO:

cake
sweets
sarmies
fruit
fun
games
music
prizes

I DON'T:

absolutely NO vegetables. wtf is this all about?

do party bags - why the hell should I pay for the party and then shell out for a party pack that costs almost as much again.

KTeePee · 06/03/2007 09:48

My SIL (who does not live in the UK) only served sweets, crisps, cakes and biscuits at my neice's last party - reminded me of parties when I was a child! I'm sure there were lots of fizzy drinks too.....

I do provide a few token sandwiches (for the parents' sakes really) but do think it is sad if kids are not allowed to have "rubbish" even on their birthday....

Tortington · 06/03/2007 09:48

no party - you can't get less poncey. i dont do kids parties. they have kids there

Spidermama · 06/03/2007 09:52

I especially don't want to poison them on their birthdays.

What's wrong with homemade cakes and ice cream and jelly?

Why bought shit? Why';s that a treat?

franca70 · 06/03/2007 09:57

sorry, but why should a home baked cake for a birthday party be poncey?
lol custardo, i agree!

expatinscotland · 06/03/2007 09:58

I home bake because my stuff tastes better than store bought .

Ditto DH's ice cream.

Enid · 06/03/2007 09:58

my kids get homemade stuff all the time

bought crap is different and therefore a treat

I have no problem with it

Tortington · 06/03/2007 09:59

i did a birthday 'tea' last year for my dd, i got them to make the jelly and cakes. kept them occupied and they ate them.
there were 3 friends - i can't cope with more than that

ghosty · 06/03/2007 10:02

Don't do party bags BUT ... have lucky dip for kids to take something home.

As for food:

Bright purple/red sausages (about 0.1% meat, 99.9% crap)
popcorn
crisps
fairy bread (100s & 1000s sandwiches)
cake
lollipops
sweets

Home baked cake is a must in our house tho'

I figure that if my children end up on drugs/in prison/pregnant at 15 I can say, "How can you DO this to me - I slaved for hours over your birthday cakes when you were little and this is how you repay me?"

MrsJohnCusack · 06/03/2007 10:08

ghosty, went to my cousin's 50th a few weeks ago and she had fairy bread! soooooooooooo Kiwi

MuminBrum · 06/03/2007 10:10

Today's iced gems and pink wafers are a sad travesty of their former day-glo selves, since the removal of azo dyes. Boooo! It's political correctness gone MAD, I tell you.

nailpolish · 06/03/2007 10:13

i agree

i bought pink wafers recently and they were VERY beigy pink

Bozza · 06/03/2007 10:34

Cucumber and carrots would go down far better with mine than cherry toms.

As I was removing DS and DD's tattoos from his party last week and ended up with some very red fore arms I wondered what all the other mothers were saying about me when their DCs arrived home complete with tattoo. The boys all had football ones - heavy on the black which took some getting off.

Clary · 06/03/2007 12:03

bozza but is that worse than gun stickers?

nailpolish · 06/03/2007 12:08

LOL

i think guns and tattoos are equal

DeviousDaffodil · 06/03/2007 12:12

Think I am a bit of a mix. DD's party is based on what she wants. But because we do food boxes (because party place doesn't have sufficient tables/chairs for each child so have picnic tea on picnic blankets) I do put in mainly healthy(ish) stuff and my party bags are not full of sweets. But part of that reason is also because of known allergies as well.

Parents get lots of chocolate and cake treats though
