Any good suggestions about where I can get small fun things for 6 year old's party bags?

Ds1 will be six next week and I haven't started to organise his party properly (it's on the 13th), Does anyone have any good places to go for party bag type stuff? I wanted to get a little book and a toy, but I can't find anything under a £1 for either and as there are about 25 kids coming to the party, the cost is getting silly. Can anyone help or suggest anything? Thanks.

Thanks for the Book People. Can't believe how good value the collections are. I have a 3 and a 7 year old birthday coming up so these will be perfect for the party bags/gifts.

I think the elc always have lovely small toys and craft items. The kids always love soft stuff and ELC carries it in the tiny tubs.

Wilbur...did you buy the Roald Dahl cd's as my son is 5 next week and wanted to check whether you got them and if you think they will be alright for five year olds!?

HI Lighter pens. Kids love them and you can find cheap ones on market stalls, like 4 or 8 for £1.

Futurity - I got the Roald Dahl Cds but sadly they are no good for party bags - the novels (Charlie etc) are split between 3 CDs each and then there are only a handful of CDs that are stand alone singles, which is a shame. And they are in a flip case, so not individually boxed as someone said. Still, it's a lovely set with great epople reading the stories and I am going to give it to ds1 as one of his presents. I'm sure they would be good for a five yr old.

Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling it might be something like that from the number of CD's compared to the number of stories. As you say a great present though as I love Roald Dahl books..takes me back to my childhood! Anyway, thanks to this thread I have gone with not going for party bags and getting a wrapped book (from Book People!) and balloon + cake. DS1 is 5 on the 18th so another January baby!
