How much is average for a children's party?

I've booked 2 hours exclusive use soft play for 14 children and will cost £240
This is with a hot and cold buffet

This is the first party I'm organising and think my son will really enjoy it but am shocked at the cost.

He will be 4 and his party is his present from me . Along with also taking him on a day out also

sounds like expensive soft play. When doing pay per head we tend to limit to around 10 children. When hiring a hall you aren't limited to much so we would then invite the whole class.

ragged · 08/03/2015 21:33

Ours would be tenner/head for soft play with food, 2 or 2.5 hours, birthday child free.

PrincessOfChina · 08/03/2015 21:34

Ours is £9 a head. Not exclusive use though (it's huge) but uiu do get your own party room.

Bluepants · 08/03/2015 21:35

Sounds like you're paying for the exclusive use, rather than per head. I've attended one that was for exclusive us, all others over the years have been mixed up with the rest of the customers. The exclusive one was lovely but £££. Round here I think soft play and food is about £10pp. Can't remember though, mine are a bit older.

dementedpixie · 08/03/2015 21:38

it's £12.75 per child for the top party package at our soft play place but that isn't for exclusive use - that is what you will be paying extra for. Do they do a non-exclusive option?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 08/03/2015 21:39

Wow! That's expensive. In Surrey, I paid £12/pp for soft play parties. I'm in Berkshire now, and it's slightly less.

What's the hot/cold buffet? Most sift play parties i've seen have been a choice of chicken nuggets or sausages, served with smiley faces and beans.

TheHoundsBitch · 08/03/2015 21:45

That sounds cheap for exclusive use, I live v near London though so everything is expensive here. My local soft play charges around £13 a head for parties and over a grand for exclusive use.

starsparkle08 · 08/03/2015 22:03

Thanks for the replies
The exclusive use is mainly as my son is autistic with many sensory issues and has learning difficulties and all the other children coming also have disabilities .

The hot and cold buffet is things like pizza, chips, sausage rolls, sandwiches , crisps , chicken nuggets etc

Just curious with what others spend on a party :-)

I send £70 at a local secondary school. They run a sports party and then I supply food and cake at the end. So usually about £100 in total.

confusedandemployed · 08/03/2015 22:07

We did DD's 2nd birthday party last week. £30 hire of indoor bouncy castle / other toys from playgroup, £15 hall hire, £60 on food and party bags, around £20 on cake making stuffstuff. 10-12 kids.
I swore I'd never do another completely on my own but it was actually a lovely, relaxed party and I'd happily do another one.

BeeInYourBonnet · 08/03/2015 22:11

I've never managed to spend less than £100 even when trying to keep things to a budget. Around the £150 mark is normal ime.

Chchchchanging · 08/03/2015 22:12

Same round here at nice soft play is 7.50 head min 10, inc food and 2 hrs

youarekiddingme · 08/03/2015 22:21

Soft play to hire out round here exclusive use is normally £10/hd for cheapest package based on minimum of 20 children. So £200 plus however many children above that you invite.

Having a child with SNs myself I'd say exclusive is a better option of you can afford it. Now mine 10 it's usually a friend or 2 and a day out.

WyrdByrd · 08/03/2015 22:27

It doesn't sound too bad for exclusive use, and will obviously be worth it for your DS and his friends to have a great time, and much more relaxing for you and the other parents I'd imagine.

Ieirswnllyd · 08/03/2015 22:28

Our local soft play were willing to give us the the non exclusive price for an exclusive party as DD has ASD. I didn't expect to pay the reduced fee, just said we had to hire the place as DD couldn't cope with it being very busy. The manager phoned us a couple of days later to say we would only need to pay the standard party fee.

Have you explained the reason why you have to book an exclusive party?

Ieirswnllyd · 08/03/2015 22:28

Exclusive party nearest to us is £18 per child.

ToffeeLatteplease · 08/03/2015 22:30

WOW can I say that sounds like a super party

Yes it is going to be cheaper if you don't do sole hire, but sole hire is going to be so much better for your purposes.

For sole party AND food that sounds like a steal!

starsparkle08 · 08/03/2015 22:44

I've not mentioned the reason behind needing exclusive use I may ask if we can have a small discount perhaps?

Thankyou everyone :-)

Looking forward to continue organising , cake etc :-)

IME, the "average" in RL, is a Loooonnnnngggg way from the "average" on MN Wink

cartoonsaveme · 08/03/2015 22:57

Near us soft play parties are 9-18 pounds depending on package. Not London. That not exclusive use

BooChunky · 17/03/2015 12:52

Confused - that is the cheapest stuff I have ever heard of!

£30 bouncy castle? I'm paying £130.

£15 hall??? £175 hall hire for a four hour slot and it's the cheapest one I looked at. Where is this hall? Grin

Then an entertainer at £240 for 2 hours...

Without food, cake, party bags or any decorations that's already £545.

dementedpixie · 17/03/2015 13:00

Our local sports centre hires out its hall for about £15 per hour. We hired a big inflatable slide and bouncy castle for about £120. Didn't do food apart from sweets crisps and juices as we aren't supposed to take food into the sports hall.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2015 23:09

i have hired function rooms for £30 for an afternoon (pubs and royal british legion) dj was £50 for 2 hrs and did party games, bubbles etc. had 75 kids and spent less than 50p a head on food/drink cartons.

local soft play is £100 for 2 hrs private hire and you do your own food.

one year we took 10 kids to kids club at the cinema (£2.50 each) i gave them each a plastic popcorn holder filled with shop bought popcorn and prefilled giant novelty plastic straw cups with squash.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 21/03/2015 00:21

Wow Nappyaddict I was only thinking of you the other day - some mention of old posters and I was reminded of you - thinking I haven't seen you on here for years and here you are. How the devil are you? I used to be Mspontipine. You probably don't remember me - do I sound like a right stalker?! Blush What I was going to say when I read your post was however did you smuggle all that stuff in? You must have got a big handbag Grin

BrieAndChilli · 21/03/2015 00:35

Our village hall is £15 to hire for a morning or afternoon for a kids party (£30 if you live outside the village) and includes a free bouncy castle!
