sorry big rant coming up.......

have been planning dd's birthday party for the last 4 mths (it's a joint birthday party with cousin -- they will both be two) and just thot it would be nice to give out proper bags for party packs, filled with things that the kids can use. most of the kids there will be other cousins or family members or really close friends so thats why decided to spend a little bit more on proper bags instead of the normal paper or plastic bags. but since there are going to be kids of different ages, decided to tailor make each bag to suit each kid. like for my 4-5 yr old nephews would give them a spiderman backpack with spidey stickers, pencils, notebook, spidey figurine, you get the picture. while for girls aged 3-4yr would get a strawberry shortcake bag with strawberry stickers, notebook, etc. the spidey and strawberry theme was incidental, cos i spent some 4 mths looking for the cheapest yet nicest bags and fillers, so these were the best i could find, and they are really good stuff!!i had to go to wholesale type places tho..

but anyway, since dd is sharing the party with my sis' ds, we couldnt really agree on the same theme for the cake so we ended up settling on a winnie the pooh cake (which is neutral right?)

but apparently one of the mother's who's been invited to the party is commenting (rather cattily i thot) that the party's theme is all over the place and that the cake wont match the party bags.
hmmmmph! am quite annoyed.
would it really make any difference? my official stand on the matter will be that since the birthday-ees are a girl and a boy, it'd be difficult...(plus i really couldnt track down any decent winnie the pooh bags for a quid or less, which is how much the bags i bought cost) and i'm also saying that too much of the same theme would simply be overkill!!

am tempted to strike that person off the list now..but she's actually more my sis' friend than mine. plus she's been tasked with baking cupcakes for the party (we're paying her of course). oh and of course she's been v catty about what theme we want to decorate the cupcakes!! we've said we haven't decided.

is it just me? am i being hormonal.

have a good mind not to giv her kids the nice party packs now...

ok! rant over!!!

change of topic...any ideas on good party games for toddlers? had earlier toyed with idea of hiring a clown but thot they were too young, plus didnt want to spend THAT much money!!!

many thanks if you'd read this far!!!

Course it doesn't matter - the party's for the kids and they def won't care.

Games - pass the parcel and musical statues (or prob better with toddlers, when the music stops, you sit down).

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 16:36

Tell her to sod off.

DSs party bags came from Ikea and didn't match the Batman cake at all.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 16:37

Or stick a pile of poo(h) in a special bag for her.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/04/2006 16:38

See now THAT is why i cant be *rsed with organising birthday parties for mine yet.

Sorry, that woman sounds like a tw*t. Spend no further time thinking on her. Dont stress about it. JUst try and enjoy the day and avoid the stupid bint.

Party games - other than pass the parcel, im pretty useless, sorry!

Feistybird · 02/04/2006 16:38

and I'm amazed frankly that you've put so much thought into the party bags. I stick some choc, some raisins, a balloon and a small unisex toy into every bag, regardless of age!

FairyMum · 02/04/2006 16:39

Good grief, do these people have a life ? To worry about non -matching party bags and cake? Find her a hobby!

BettySpaghetti · 02/04/2006 16:39

Tell her to get a life.
Your party bags sound great -you've obviously put a lot of time and thought into matching them to the children.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 16:40

Don't bother with party games, it'll all end in tears.

Replied on wrong thread!

Tell the woman that the only theme for your child's party is FUN!

DD's "party bags" were large brown envelopes, each containing a thank you for coming letter, a book and a couple of mini bars of chocolate. Definitely didn't match the pink palace cake.

As for games, I had DD's 4th birthday yesteray and we ended up playing no proper games at all. Was just a free for all play session really.

Sounds like you have put loads of thought and effort into this party. Good on you and well done. The other woman is talking rubbish!

JonesTheSteam · 02/04/2006 16:42

Oh FFS - obviously everything else in her life is wonderful, if this is all she's got to think about - silly moo!

DD had a Disney princess cake and cheap purple party bags from ASDA, which definitely did not match!!!!

notasheep · 02/04/2006 16:44

OMG wouldnt even do party bags

WideWebWitch · 02/04/2006 16:45

My dd didn't even get a party when she was 2! Catty woman is being silly of course, 2yos don't need a theme, I think you're being v kind to go to so much effort. It does all seem fairly trivial though.

hazlinh · 02/04/2006 16:52

oh thank god. thot i was the one who'd got all my priorities wrong!!!thank god the rest of us are all still normal
!!!!!

love the idea of poo(h) in a special bag for her Grin
just made me laugh out so loud, had dh looking over at me suspiciously!!!!!

yeah hulababy, saw your pics, it looked really lovely!!! the cake was so pretty too!!!

so .... are party games a bit of a risk then? shall i just have 'freeplay'? or something...

yeah dont know why i put so much effort lol!! guess i needed a hobby...Grin

the silly cow obviously needs one of her own!!!!!

Sounds a bit like jealousy to me. You've put so much effort into it, and the party will be fantastic! Rise above it.

I advise - and I'm sure harpsichordcarrier won't mind being plagiarised - GrinGrin

Eeek · 02/04/2006 16:55

get a kids cd - wiggles or bob or something and get them to boogie. wears off huge amounts of energy for little adult input

hazlinh · 02/04/2006 16:56

i think next year will be no-frills party all round with no party packs....

i guess in my defence what got me going was attending a really well-planned party by the boss earlier this year and she'd clearly also put in a lot of effort with the food, organising, entertainer and goody bags..

plus mum had suggested it would be nice to give my nephews proper bags they can use for school as their birthdays were coming up too....

hope it all goes well.it's in may, and we've hired a place with a swimming pool and a playroom..hope the cake doesnt fall into the pool!!! gakk

yeah a cd for them to dance to sounds like a great idea!!!!! dd just adores the wiggles and nursery rhymes and barney and other danceable things!!!!

hulababy, so how did u organise it? have read ur thread, but sori, brain full of holes today...

so u had (is it 3 or 4) separate corners for separate activities? and presumably four adults to control those corners?

hulababy · 03/04/2006 12:08

Not that organised! Parents were there to supervise their own children, plus extra adults (grandparents of DD) wandering around.

It was a large sports hall. At the near end we had the bouncy castle and the side of that the disco playing music loudly! Half way down the hall we had the craft table. Centre of the hall was the parachute and balloons. Far end was the football bet and a couple of balls.

Food was served mid way through on picnic blankets and in food boxes.

We were lucky that one of DH's collaegues is a DJ and amatuer magician (no magic yesterday!) as well as a solicitor. He did the disco for us for free as he is so lovely. DD wrote hima thank you and we got him a presie though.

stitch · 03/04/2006 12:32

i always find the super duper matched peopl a bit obsessive compulsive.
the other woman is probly just jealous.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 03/04/2006 12:38

went to a party yesteday - was a character from Starlight Express on the cake (one of those Tesco Celebration Cakes that you can have a picture put onto) and a completely different party bag - kids didn't care.

harpsichordcarrier · 03/04/2006 12:38

dear LORD
the THEME is all over the place??
I've heard it all now
I wouldn't bother with party games personally. I went to a three year old party yesterday and the party games were, erm, not the best part of the day Smile

Blackduck · 03/04/2006 12:42

Blimey - this is the kind of woman who obviously only buys a certain colour bubble bath 'cos it has to natch he towels/decor..! GET A LIFE! and tell her the 'theme' is Chaos!
