Its Dd's 9 th birthday very soon & I'm out of ideas what to buy her.

She wants a pillow pet (which I won't buy unless 1 appears for £1!) but other than that, thought she wanted money.

Now she is thinking that she won't have any presents to open on her b'day. We've bought her a Cath Kidston bag, Build a Bear clothes & Now 80 cd, but literally run out of ideas.

I thought she might like her ears pierced, I was desperate at her age, but shown no interest so keeping quiet on that front !

She like arts & crafts (but won't sew/learn to knit/do jigsaws), likes Build a Bear, doesn't like reading...just bounces around a lot of the time ! Which is handy when we're out walking the dog..

She wants a pillow pet though not her ears pierced so why can't she have a pillow pet?

Willowisp · 15/06/2012 16:14

Because I loathe pillow pets & she has a ton of cuddly toys...I've just bought her a Tatty Teddy as that has appeared on her list.

I won't be forcing her to have her ears pierced though & keen to keep her as young as poss Smile

Thing is with birthdays, its not about what you like, its what your dd likes so as ling as its within budget, and not illegal, why not just get her it?

GnocchiNineDoors · 15/06/2012 16:21

Take her clothes shopping instead of just money for clothes, its not like a 9yo could go out clothes shopping on her own anyways, and maybe as she is quite active, tickets to do Go Ape?

Daneel · 15/06/2012 16:28

I agree with the others about the pillow pet. Sorry! Other ideas, since she's active, a football, trampoline, pogo stick, skipping rope or nerf guns or a dart board even. Go Ape sounds good too. Other nine yr old staples seem to be art kits, sylvanian families or lego.

Willowisp · 15/06/2012 17:55

Thanks - I'm feeling the pressure for daylight robbery pillow pet. The trouble is dd is faddy. she desperately wanted a furberry, got one for Xmas, played with it for barely 2 days & lost interest.

The money is coming from other family members. Maybe a trip into the Cath Kidston store is the answer.

Go Ape is a great one, we have one nearby & she has asked, although i thought she was too young ? I will investigate.

We already have a trampoline & climbing frame & Dd2 is into the sylvanian stuff, although good ideas, thanks.

Am running the roller skates/in-line skates past her & she has a couple of unused skipping ropes :-/

Trips are a good plan.

If you're in London, the cheapest tickets at the Royal Ballet are actually cheaper than the Odeon cinema.

imnotmymum · 15/06/2012 17:59

At 9 lots of bits. Cath Kidston at 9 ?? You should know what she in to .

Unionjackie · 15/06/2012 19:54

Swingball? That is if we are actually going to have a summer this year!

HandMadeTail · 15/06/2012 20:01

I think she will have to be 10 for the real Go Ape, although in some places there is a sort of " junior" one.

HandMadeTail · 15/06/2012 20:06

Wii, Xbox, DS game?

A few books?

Some kind of science set?

Silver jewellery?

Willowisp · 15/06/2012 21:10

No wii, not bothered by xbox really, no DS, plays a couple of games on laptop.

Yes, cath Kidston at 9, is that so bad ? She has her eye on the kids satchel which is £30. Considering I've spent £12 on the official school bag which doesn't even close after 2 terms, I think this is ok.

I do know what she likes, playing with her friends in the garden, writing lists, playing on her Whiteboard (schools usually) playing build a bear. She does an art club & couple of out of school gym clubs. The rest of the time she dances to her own beat !

I found a list earlier, that had pillow pet, nail varnish & money to spend at the charity shop Grin

She's a bit careless with jewellery, wouldn't appreciate it, although she does love doing het hair, maybe a braid hair kit....

Enjoyed making the perfume, but was a bit disappointed with end result. Is there a science one you can recommend pls ?

Thanks though, got the cogs in motion.

DD's two favourite presents when she was 9 were a (very small!) swiss army knife, and a scramble net. She also had an Ant World for Xmas that year which she enjoyed a lot.

Willowisp · 15/06/2012 21:46

Will google them as never heard of them.

Not near London, but a show is a great idea. Allthough i was thinking of her for a show next birthday rather than a party, as she loved Annie several years ago. She mentioned tonight a visit to the Rainforest Cafe, so that's next year sorted !

If she's bouncy then how about activities - is there a rock climbing wall near you? My dd age 8 loves gong to our local Big Rock centre. Or tennis racket and ball? Swingball? hula hoop? Frisbee? Or clothes - nice tracky bums/leggings and top?

PS my dd loves her new hearts suitcase so I can see why your dd would like a CK bag :)

The hearts suitcase sounds lovely, do you have a link please ? Dd has a princess one, so maybe an option for a later pressie.

ooohh I am deleted I did not say anything bad honest Guv!!Just said you were in a better position than us to judge what your DD in to??

lilbreeze · 16/06/2012 09:16

No you didn't say anything bad! Think it's just because you repeated what Willowisp called you.

givememarzipan · 16/06/2012 13:23

based on arts and crafts : one of those big bead sets? I had loads of art kits at her age, candle making, mosaics, depeynds what level of messiness you can handle.

based on nail polish: erm a nail art kit? or put one together yourself with little nail stickers etc?

I'm sure I've read about there being a £5 cath kidston bag on asos.com, a shopper rather than a satchel though and I haven't seen it to judge if a 9 year old would like it.

Willowisp · 16/06/2012 13:30

Thanks, have found some nail stickers on amazon & a nail kit, was probably going to try the nail kit.

The Cath Kidston is a satchel for school, so will be an alternative to the useless book bag Smile

Candle making is interesting...as long as Dd doesn't light them in her bedroom !

MarysBeard · 16/06/2012 13:36

You want to spend £30 on a bag but won't get her a pillow pet for £14 on Amazon?

quirrelquarrel · 16/06/2012 13:43

What about some nice books....they make brilliant memories for birthdays. Pop over to the children's book section for ideas. Adele Geras and Anne Fine are great for that age.

Tape recorder/CD player?

Little box of crystals, all different colours.

Pillow case from Shared Earth- might make her feel grown up, they're gorgeous and cheapish.

Lip balm etc from the Body Shop, something from Lush.

Little bits from Hawkin's Bazaar

This is a long shot, but maybe a guide to learning Esperanto and dictionary? Some kids would really go for that!

Hamster? That would be a huge present.

Lots of little tubes of glitter and sequins and things.

The NT shops always have things for kids....like those bouncing eggs or really nicely bound books.

Some very light eau de toilette maybe.

Really good quality pens, paper and colouring pencils, or a bunch of different stationary things in her favourite colour (just go round an art shop and pick out all the blue pens or something). Tied with a ribbon.

A length of nice fabric...like gauze, fake silk, patterned stuff...
