Do I want champagne saucers or flutes?

I am having some couples round for pre-ball drinks. I'm intending to seve a few snacks / canapés and champagne.

Unfortunately my DS was helping get the box of champagne glasses out of the cupboard (they're flutes and too tall for kitchen cupboards) dropped it with the result that I need new ones.

I've discovered some nice champagne saucers here but can't decide if they are too 1970's naff babycham-ish. Maybe I should stick with normal flute type style.

Need some help MN! Are saucers naff or trendy?

better luck this time? or search 137080799 on House of Fraser.

Thanks everyone, that's about twice as many votes for flutes than saucers.

But, since no one has openly laughed at the naff ness, I might get saucers anyway!

MrsLettuce thanks, they are similar to my smashed ones! Nice shape.

IMVHO saucers must be vintage to avoid the posy poncey trap.

EdlessAllenPoe · 26/04/2012 20:36

nice shape

Chubfuddler · 26/04/2012 20:39

I'm going to have to buy some champagne saucers now.

I want some saucers now...who cares about less bubbles

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/04/2012 20:54

I love saucers, there is something about the shape that appeals to me.

Nigella is a saucer fan. Not sure if that is a reason to buy, or not to buy though Grin

Chubfuddler · 26/04/2012 20:54

I drink champagne far too quickly to worry about it going flat.

RedBlanket · 26/04/2012 21:05

Champagne goes flat? Not round me it doesn't!

ExitPursuedByABear · 26/04/2012 22:51

Anything etched is fabulous. And could never be naff.

ravel · 26/04/2012 22:54

i have those lsa champagne saucers and they really are gorgeous.

one warning though - it is extremely easy to spill the champagne. and the more tipsy you get the worse the problem gets. so i hope you have champagne coloured carpets!

Mine wouldn't fit in a saucer.

Bluegrass · 26/04/2012 23:06

You could serve my champagne on a dinner plate and I'd still drink it before it went flat.

trumpton · 26/04/2012 23:09

Traditionally the saucers were alleged to have been modelled on the breast of Marie Antoinette . I like saucers for that " babysham" moment. Or have you thought about mini bottles and straws ( classy emoticon )
