I was wondering about foil or clingfilm... is there a REASON why it's always in the party bags in napkins?

yes totally!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 08/10/2005 20:28

it's tradition!!!!

katymac · 08/10/2005 20:29

So that it can go soggy and wreak everything else in the bag?

SleepySuzy · 08/10/2005 20:30

Foil would keep it fresher surely, but depends on how old kids are as to how safe it is. Cling film could make it sweat.

Make sure the napkins are brightly coloured and not colour-fast though. White sponge with red, blue and green stripes is particularly fun

BaronessMarsLady · 08/10/2005 20:31

without a doubt.

For goodness sake woman don't you know that half the fun is peeling the paper off the icing??????????

bobbybob · 08/10/2005 20:32

Cling film doesn't show up on Xrays

hmmmmmm
dd asked for a pavlova with creme chantilly and raspberries for her birthday.
Should I have tried wrapping it and putting in party bags?

philippat · 08/10/2005 21:16

phew FrenchSorciere, I feel much better, clearly you're a much worse mum than me...

FrenchSorciere · 08/10/2005 21:16

me? I'm cr*p I am!!!

teeavee · 08/10/2005 21:20

you should call them "serviettes" if you want to be really posh

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 21:41

We bought a roll of Kitchen roll that was buy one get one free in tescos that had disney princesses on. Much cheaper than extortionate fancy napkins.

lucykate · 08/10/2005 21:51

annabel karmel or nigella, can't remember which do a recipe for home made fish and chips for kids, wrapped in a comic. that might work for cake too.

Bozza · 08/10/2005 21:55

Well its really bad for the cake is all I know as other posters have said. When I have had parties at home I have wrapped it in greaseproof paper and then the napkin. But DS's last two parties have been at play places and they have just done the usual.

FrenchSorciere · 08/10/2005 21:56

but why can't children eat it at the party????
really, I want to know?

how did the party go Aimsmum? And what food did you serve in the end?

WigWamBam · 08/10/2005 22:27

Chances are the cake won't be hanging around for long enough to spoil the cake or make it soggy anyway (or is that just my dd?)

Are you drinking copious amounts of wine to help you get over it?

ScarySkribble · 08/10/2005 22:39

Wrap in what ever you fancy,

I get two small cakes one to blow candles out at party and take home for a cuppa and the other cheap plain one is pre cut and wrapped before party.

Kitchen rool sounds a good choice.
