A very fine reason to be drunk @Piggywaspushed, well done to them! I hope he manages to continue his music making beyond studies 🤞

Comefromaway · 16/02/2025 09:16

Well done to the Piggy!

im still here. A lot has been happening for Ds. He had some wobbles & disatisfaction with his course when he went back after Xmas (it’s him not the course & I think he chose some of the wrong modules but rather than let it build as he has done in the past, he requested a meeting. He was thinking of asking to change to music production. I’d actually suggested this befire as a major/minor as he’d loved his optional module so much in his foundation year.

the upshot is both his course leader & the MT course leader have got together to work out how they can tailor the modules in his final year plus his final project/recital to suit him & hes going to be formally collaborating with and getting assessed on group work with the MT dept. He’s very happy.

he’s also waiting on confirmation of two exciting projects with a brass band he plays with that’s not allowed to be announced yet.

Good musical new for @Piggywaspushed and @Comefromaway!

While pictures are back, here are two characters from DD's project.

They're fantastic @PhotoDad !

Well done to mini @Piggywaspushed and also @Comefromaway with his potential projects. Great that they've been so flexible with the course too!

Dd had no choice of modules at all in years 1 and 2 (I think partly because it's accredited by the BPS) and didn't really enjoy the course much, but thankfully she's really enjoyed most of her modules this year, even the compulsory ones.

ealingwestmum · 16/02/2025 14:19

He handled his course options really well @Comefromaway, well done to him getting such a positive outcome.

EwwSprouts · 17/02/2025 17:03

Congratulations to @Piggywaspushed junior. Definitely worthy of a good celebration!

@PhotoDad They are very expressive. Shades of Tim Burton.

@Comefromaway Great that he felt they were approachable about modules and mature to see it through! Fingers crossed for the secret projects.

It's lovely to have DS home. He's tired and emotional and unhappy with the UK weather 🤣
I'm trying to get him to sort accommodation for next year whilst he's home. Nottingham seems really expensive suddenly. He's looking at reluctantly going back into halls as he doesn't have anyone to share with next year. Do any of you Nottingham folk know anything about Madison Gardens or Raleigh Park? Or any other self catered lower budget accommodation on the Lenton side of Uni?

crazycrofter · 17/02/2025 21:53

@mummyinbeds we visited Raleigh Park at the offer holder day and liked it - I seem to remember a decent kitchen/shared area and it’s close to several other accommodation blocks and also the Jubilee campus (dd says the library there is nice).

mummyinbeds · 17/02/2025 22:49

Thanks @crazycrofter DS likes the Jubilee library too and went there a lot (for him). He also used the Jubilee gym and played football there. He's worried about sharing with strangers but if he finds a house it will be the same with no option to move room/flat.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/02/2025 09:27

Is DS on his reading week @mummyinbeds? DD is on hers and still ill with this horrid virus that she picked up last Wednesday. No "reading" being done at all. Her back and chest hurt from all the coughing and nose blowing but she's breathing fine so think it's strained muscles rather than chest infection 🤞🤞
Had to cancel 1st Valentine's Day with boyf and not seen him at all as he has exams coming up so she's gutted about that.

Lovely that you got to watch DS play @Piggywaspushed and those models are seriously impressive that DD has done @PhotoDad

Saw the new Bridget Jones movie yesterday and cried too many times to count. Loved it though.

We have sunshine here today so I'm going to hang my washing out @goals 😁

mummyinbeds · 18/02/2025 09:49

@AnneOfCleavage it's not reading week as such. The whole of France close down for a week in February/March, split into four zones to decide which week. Anyone who has tried skiing in France at half term will know that they all go skiing.
Sorry to hear your DD is unwell and missed out on Valentines. Hopefully they can arrange an alternative special date when his exams are finished.

ealingwestmum · 18/02/2025 11:57

I watched BJ last night too @AnneOfCleavage, was really surprised at how good it was, same sentiment shared by the audience I was sat with.

Hope your DD feels better soon.

Enjoy having your DS home @mummyinbeds, we are on the search too for Y4 accommodation, first time DD is experiencing the gaslighting of rental agents and rising prices of Dublin. I have my fingers crossed that she secures campus accommodation for the first time but there are no guarantees, she finds out March I hope.

Oblomov24 · 19/02/2025 19:10

Sorry Mummy I don't know much about the self catering accommodation, but doesn't the Raleigh have a good reputation. Because ds is at the Business school at least a couple of his course mates are at Raleigh I'm sure. (Aren't all the sc accoms at Jubliee reasonable/all quite good?)

Ds1 is going to rent a friends flat next year, so will be on his own, in his own place for the first time. He will be there in Sept to Christmas , and the again dir the summer, and can't wait because that autumnal term in Notts is always good he says, and he's missed it last 2 years because he's gone on placement in London, whereas this year, his final year he won't be on placement in London till January till March.

Shimy · 20/02/2025 21:55

@mummyinbeds Enjoy your DS home & all the catching up. DS already found a place last yr for this September I'm just hoping the new student tenancy laws don't throw everything up in the air. Some good news, DS did his exam resit and passed just yesterday. Glad that's all over,

craggyrat · 21/02/2025 07:22

Great news for your DS @Shimy !

crazycrofter · 21/02/2025 08:36

That’s a relief @Shimy - well done to your Ds!

ExpensiveDecoration · 21/02/2025 09:37

Well done to DS @Shimy

Piggywaspushed · 21/02/2025 09:52

Oh what a relief.

Comefromaway · 21/02/2025 09:52

Great news Shimy

mummyinbeds · 21/02/2025 10:42

Well done young @Shimy , that's great news

DS also somehow passed 3 out of the 4 French uni exams he took at the end of Semester 1. Exam number 4, well erm, he failed in great style, as did his Nottingham friend. It will depend on how he does this semester whether he has to resit in the summer as he doesn't have to pass everything to keep Nottingham happy.

I need to check out the new student tenancy laws. I've read something about issues with mixed student/non student houses and DD has a non student in her house next year 😱

EwwSprouts · 21/02/2025 19:24

@Shimy Brilliant!

Shimy · 21/02/2025 19:25

Thanks everyone, very kind.
@mummyinbeds Congrats on the exams passed, hopefully he won't have to resit the 4th one as you said it doesn't really count towards Notts. unless he feels personally compelled to, hopefully he won't feel won't. I know ds2 would just dig his heels in the same situation and swear he must pass or else....which is quite frustrating.

Re: tenancy contracts there's also something about banning anything more than 6mths contract agreements. I don't know whether this is going forward from when the new law becomes active or it's also in retrospect.

craggyrat · 22/02/2025 07:26

DS didn't get into RAF. He's a bit fed up! Had to chase for reply in the end as they didnt come bavk to him . Scored really highly in all the fitness, group and leadership tests but in the interview he had a NATO answer about number of countries wrong and had made a joke at the end when shaking hands that it had been stressful doing interview. He said they laughed and agreed but failed him on it. Only 1 of 12 in his cohort got in. Hey ho!

craggyrat · 22/02/2025 07:37

I'm actually a bit relieved about it as it was a front line role he was applying to! I think the trouble is, he has no idea what he really wants to do and feels the end of uni is looming fast. He has absolutely loved his uni life and I think panic setting in a bit now!

Piggywaspushed · 22/02/2025 07:37

Did anyone see the thread about the girl who couldn't get a grad job? Sobering reading (if you filter out the 'well she should walk barefoot 50 miles to hod coals for 50p ' brigade ever present on MN).

DS1 is still working in Dunelm and getting turned down for everything. Pretty much been blacklisted by local schools for TA jobs (long story!) . DS2 did not get into Daily Mail (phew!) , Telegraph, Times , BBC or ,we think , ITV schemes . Has applied for a general news agency training programme. Journalism MAs can be £££££££. He needs a back up plan. He also has imposter syndrome so is possibly not applying for enough posts.

First world porblem but he is a tiny bit frustrated because he keeps getting 68s. for every module. He wasn't particularly targeting a first but he works so ridiculously hard so it's frustrating for him.
