Thread 42 Corona GCSE Cohort - 👻Creeping it Real for Oct22

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Be warned there might be lots of 'Uni Freshers' chat this time of year. My experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

I was trying to remember who told us about the 31 week contract at Rutland! Dd is also really pleased she went catered for the location. I don’t think she’s eating enough to get her money’s worth though 😂

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:08

Clears throat. ;-)

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:21

I first mentioned Rutland on thread 28 as I knew it was only 31 weeks. A couple of others then agreed it was on their radar too and we went from there :-)
I have absolutely no idea what DD thinks about it because that isn't any of the texts she has sent and she doesn't actually reply to my questions... Possibly find out this coming weekend. Todays messages have been about asking my opinions on dresses she likes for the hockey ball on Saturday.. At least she is texting....

Sorry to hear your DD is poorly @crazycrofter, hopefully she will stay in for the next couple of nights and rest up ;-)

Totally agree MOOCS are worth doing. I looked into them for DD when she wanted to drop her EPQ. She did 3 over the summer holidays and it seemed to help her uni applications. So many available, I think she did some from York Uni and 1 from Nottingham.

@Heifer. Err sorry Heifer. It was you! Lays down palm branches. ........

Gives ALL credit to Heifer. Thank you Heifer.

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 21:28

Am I forgiven?

omnishambles · 11/10/2022 21:29

Credit where credit is due @Heifer . DS is going great guns with budgeting and spending 30quid a week on food. He does concede that cooking is boring though.

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 21:31

And. How the fxxk do you remember that it was thread 28? Grin

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:32

You know when you read something back and then say feck me why on earth did I post that? well just that. I have no idea why I felt the need to do that - makes me sound so needy, apologies.

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:33

Because I checked it was me after I said clears throat - I actually searched the threads for Rutland. I seriously need to get a grip.

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 21:36

No not at all. I'm most peeved when people get my credit!

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 21:36

I'm like : Errrr, excuse me, that was ME!

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:39

:-) well apparently, I'm the same! I could have worded it better but yes was too keen to prove myself - imagine me jumping up and down with my hand up saying "it was me, it was me" :-)

Zebracat · 11/10/2022 21:41

You are all lovely

NCTDN · 11/10/2022 21:47

Fruity I've done that survey. For one I feel quite competent in my job Confused
I'm glad dd is catered, it's one less thing to worry about.

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 21:49

Is be the same Heifer. No excuses necessary.

I'd be more rude. I'd be : excuse me . You can all F the F off. It was All ME. Grin

Heifer · 11/10/2022 21:52

You make me laugh @Oblomov22 . Love this thread.

Fiddlersgreen · 11/10/2022 22:02

This has made me laugh @Heifer
i would so be the same though.

I did not know you could search the thread.
This is amazing

Heifer · 11/10/2022 22:06

Control F is your friend - use it a lot when I'm trying to remember to mention someone when I've read earlier.

Heifer · 11/10/2022 22:07

If someone could tell me how to do it on my mobile that would be very useful. and I will remember them and thank them - or someone else ;-)

Delphigirl · 11/10/2022 22:08

Love this heifer. Totally what I would do. Solidarity, sister! 💕

Heifer · 11/10/2022 22:12

I seriously thought I had shown far too much of my true self here this evening and it turns out that some (although probably not all) are just the same :-)

EerilyDevilled · 11/10/2022 22:12

If it's an iphone, type your search term (eg Heifer) into the search box at the top of the screen and a dropdown should appear saying search "search engine search" or below that "on this page". Click on "on this page" and use the arrows at the bottom of the screen to toggle through the hits. No idea about the app though.

Heifer · 11/10/2022 22:15

I'm sometimes on the mumsnet talk app. Often go into the PC though if I have some serious Mumsnetting to do Grin

EerilyDevilled · 11/10/2022 22:18

I've never liked the app. I mainly use the mobile version on my phone or desktop version on the ipad

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 22:19

Reminds everyone that it was Heifer with the Rutland suggestion.
