Tell me what you particularly love about being a mother of boys........

You get to ride steam trains and share their cheese strings whilst rolling down steep grass banks

That I've learned so much about dinosaurs.

That they learn their abc's by burping them.

How far they will carry an interesting shaped stick or stone on a walk.

You get to watch Toy Story rather then Disney Princesses.

Valpollicella · 12/06/2010 21:50

The main reasons I'm glad I have a DS are listed above...no freaking Lelli Kelli's and slutty clothing.

Although DS is currently sporting one set of pink and one set of silver toenails

BikeRunSki · 12/06/2010 21:51

That my 21 month DS runs everywhere and collapses in a heap of giggles when he gets there. Even if there is no reason for going there in the first place.

Aliarse · 12/06/2010 21:58

My two DS's (4 and 2) were in hysterics laughing while having a stand up weeing competition into an old ice-cream tub today!
(Outside!)

Just looking a them and thinking they will one day be handsome men and that i will be the woman who loves them most and knows them most..i used to want girls but now i have two boys i feel blessed because i see myself in them without having to associate that with gender!

gypsymummy · 12/06/2010 22:06

i also agree about the no pink zone and the free of barbie control!!!!!! oh and having to do pigtails and stuff

MarionCole · 12/06/2010 22:23

"DS when you're big and strong will you carry mummy?"

"Of course I will mummy"

meandjoe · 14/06/2010 14:54
  1. They want to have 'boy's days out' with Daddy, leaving you free to do girly things with your friends!
  1. You don't have to spend ages plaiting their hair before school.
  1. Their clothes are waaaay cooler than little girly flimsy pink clothes.
  1. They stll like doing things like baking and being mummy's little helper but can be really handy and help daddy fix things with their 'bob the builder' tools.

Boys are just lovely!!!!

I'm 3 weeks away max from meeting my baby boy and I am so excited! Even more so from reading this thread!

Ohmygod, my DS is such hard work! Nearly 21 months but everything is such a drama... endless screaming when he doesn't get his own way, out of proportion reaction to everything... has to go out of the house within 15 mins of waking up, never stops moving. DD, 3.5, on the hand is, and has always, been as easy as pie! I ADORE him of course but I wouldn't say he's as straightforward as some other peoples boys seem to be!

fabhead · 16/06/2010 15:37

got a 5y old and a 2 y old, third ds on the way. what I like most is that they seem much more loving and affectionate than girls - always kissing and cuddling and telling me how much they love me. They are so cute and endearing. No pink/barbie/little princess shit to deal with.

Rhian82 · 16/06/2010 15:41

DS (19 months) is so so affectionate and lovely. Always wants to help me with whatever I'm doing. Very smiley and giggly as well.

Agree with SydneyB though that he wants to go out first thing in the morning, never mind that DH and I aren't dressed yet!

UnquietDad · 16/06/2010 15:48

Having one of each, the differences I have perceived are:

DS is more spontaneously affectionate. He will give me Big Manly Hugs (tm) just because he wants to. DD is more political and wily.

His room is not filled with pink stuff and posters of Miley Cyrus, but rather with cars, lorries, dinosaurs and a giant poster of Amy Pond. I find this good.

His needs are more straightforward. They basically boil down to food, sleep and warmth.

Sorry if all this sounds a bit sexually stereotyped, but sometimes that's just the way it is - and we've not brought them up differently...

MrsJohnDeere · 16/06/2010 15:50

No need to have a house full of hideous pink, sparkly, glittery stuff.

No need for dolls (they give me the creeps).

No need to worry about hairstyles, bobbles, and slides.

They can just wear normal clothes to paryties rather than hideous party dresses.

juuule · 16/06/2010 16:56

That you are less likely to be plagued by headlice.

Morloth · 16/06/2010 18:22

Star Wars Lego.

GreenAndSilverStars · 16/06/2010 18:38

...and Lego Star Wars

fabhead · 16/06/2010 18:39

Yes! Love the star wars Lego! Mind you I had star wars stuff as a kid but it seems much more polarised these days.
