What's up with Pampers? - elastic breaking

What's happened to Pampers?
Every nappy I have used in the last 2 weeks from 3 separate packs has had dodgy elastic. It keeps snapping while my son is wearing the nappy and then the contents leak out - yuck...
They have recently started putting cardboard in the packs saying 'this pack contains trial nappies instead of the ones you wanted to buy' but I assumed that was a marketing gimic to explain why there were less in the pack.
Are Pamper going bust? Are they using a cheaper elastic and making shoddy nappies now?
Any other recommended brands? My son has ezcema so I need a soft nappy (otherwise he scratches his bum till it bleeds where the nappy rubs)but I am happy to swap from Pampers now.

Helen - they could just go back to the old Active Fit and they would then have a lot of happy customers!

Ladies there is always cloth if the 'sposies are up to the job. Hemp/bamboo + booster + Airflow wrap = bombproof and no leaks even overnight, even with EBF babies.

aren't up to the job, obviously

I am so annoyed about this whole Pampers nonsense... having tried Huggies when ds was born and found them lacking, I have since used Pampers exclusively for just over 3 years. (we are fast approaching potty training - finally! just waiting for summer holidays). the new active fit are hopeless -thin, not particularly absorbent and seem to spread poo around ds's bum - and he doesn't sit for long in a dirty nappy. With the old ones he could, if needed, go for a whole morning or afternoon with just one nappy for wees.

Have really noticed that we are getting though the new ones at a rate of knots - one wee and the nappy is bulging. just seems to be a way of getting people to buy more really. utterly rubbish.

HelenMumsnet - would they be allowed on to explain what is going on and what they will do please? rather than just telling people to ring a number, where we will be read their usual statement / given a voucher. I won't be buying any more and in fact intend to take back the last unopened pack I have to the supermarket and get a refund.

I am also really unhappy with the new pampers. I saw the little cardboard thing in the pack but didn't read it. i noticed they were a different colour - more purple - but didn't actually notice they weren't as thick . However I totally noticed all the poop up my sons back everytime he did one. I have another pack to go and then I'm going to look around for something else. I've tried Tesco's own brand before but found them too hard and scratchy. Guess I'll have to try Huggies and see how they are.

I saw the pampers lady on Watchdog telling us how great the new pampers are - what cr@p! If they really thought they were great then they would have announced it with bells and whistles. IMO its a money saving exercise - clearly its cheaper to make them with less padding.

GRRRRR

fustyarse · 27/05/2010 13:39

compleely agree wih you oatcake - it's purely a money saving move and I'll never be buying them again - it's not like they've passed on any savings to us!

I too emailed a complaint and also got a voucher which I'll probably never use.

Am using up the ones I've got left then that's it.

I sent them a link to the mumsnet reviews page about Pampers - hope that was ok to do? That might be the reason they got in touch with you Helenmumsnet? Oh dear, I hope I haven't caused any bother - just thought they ought to know what their customers were saying since the new, cheapo design

But actually they're getting the same remarks on their own website forum

Haven't see a SINGLE person say that they are better - except the woman on Watchdog.

You can use the vouchers for wipes or changing mats.

Incredibly shortsighted of pampers this whole debacle.

Well, Pampers have listened (a bit) and changed the packaging and popped the word 'new' on the front so the 'new active fit' can be identified now. Not that it matters to me because unless they go back to their old design I am sticking with Little Walkers for daytime as they seem to be doing the trick in the larger size. I am currently on my 3rd brand for nighttime. My son wees for England during the night and if I change his nappy in the night he wakes up for a play! Trying Huggies Natural Fit tonight...looking promising so far

Thanks for the recommendation for Nature care, believe it or not that was the very first nappy he ever had, and he weed too much, even as a week old bubba, for them so we switched to Pampers.

I do know people who are happy with the new Pampers design, it seems my pals who have girls and who sleep on their tummies, are happy. I have a pooey boy who sleeps on his back! He only poos in the daytime, how wierd is that? or not, I suppose I only poo during the waking hours too (TMI sorry).

They said they are definately not going back to the old design and the new one is permanent.

sparkleshine · 28/05/2010 12:44

We used huggies newborn when ds was first born and they leaked down legs and up his back.

We changed to pampers active fit at 2mths and still leaks the same. I haven't used the new design yet tbh as I bought in bulk buy at asda event but I found no improvement with leaking poo.

Would it not be the sizing perhaps?
I just don't get how a baby of 15lbs can fit the same size nappy as a 40lb toddler.
I've noticed all brands do this.

Maybe as my ds is 17lbs it's leaking coz it's too big, though doesn't seem to be.
