How oftne do you wet down / wash your toddlers hair?

Our DCs have a bath 3 times a week and I am of the wash properly once a week but leave it dry the other times because of not wanting to dry it out with the hair dryer drying it (DD has a bob).

DH definitely wants it soaked with water if it isn't being shampooed.

What do you all do?

i wash my dd's (4) hair once every two weeks but she is mixed race and her hair is in plaits

but as for your dc, once a week sounds fine but i don't see the point in wetting it if its not being actually washed? its not really cleaning it is it?

nickytwotimes · 24/02/2010 19:42

Ds is a bit of a sweaty wee man, so gets it washed with a tiny bit of shampoo most days, less so in the winter.
Why does your dh think it should be soaked every day? DOn't see the need tbh if your wee one's hair smells okay.

Seona1973 · 24/02/2010 19:52

my lo's (3 and 6) get their hair washed every 2 days when they have their bath/shower. DD has hers dried with the hair dryer each time as it is long and it hasnt dried out (it is conditioned every time it is washed)

DS has his hair washed once a week. I see no point in wetting their hair if it doesn't need washing

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/02/2010 19:56

Always had it washed once a week as toddlers (unless particularly hot and sweaty).

More often now they are older and forever battling with fekking nits.

tvaerialmagpiebin · 24/02/2010 20:04

once a week becuase I can only cope with the ninety decibel yelling once a week.

IBlameThePMT · 24/02/2010 20:06

Once a week here too. Doesnt get wet, other than accidentally, in between.

jenster1976 · 24/02/2010 20:11

Washed every other day, as it's curly and I need to keep on top of the combing, which is much easier when wet and washed, if I don't comb it wet or damp it goes into a knotty frizz, so i wet comb it every morning, to keep her ringlets, vain - moi?

RedOnHerHead · 24/02/2010 20:14

DS2 is 21mths and has such fine whispery hair - never had it cut - nothing much to cut there!
Washed once a week where i throw the water over his head - he thinks it's fun! but left dry the rest of the week unless he uses his dinner dish as a hat (complete with food) - then it gats washed again!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/02/2010 20:18

DS 20 months and DD 4 get their hair wet every time. DS has a bath most nights and he swims/floats, DD has a shower nost nights bit I only wash their hair once a week.

annabelcaramel · 24/02/2010 20:19

Every day! Essential to remove the play doh, marmite, mud, sand, paint and other reminders of the day. Nothing nicer thyan the smell of warm clean baby!(3 yr old 'baby'....)

MarionCole · 24/02/2010 20:20

Wash in the bath on Sunday night and in the swimming pool showers on a Friday morning.

Megletwantsittobesummer · 24/02/2010 20:22

Shampoo every other day. Both my pre-schoolers have fine hair but it does get grubby and oily. I don't use a hairdryer as a quick rub with a towel and a warm house do the job.

They look so much shiner once it's been done .

MrsJohnDeere · 24/02/2010 20:34

Ds1 (3.9) once every 5-7 days. He screams, and screams, and screams, and I cannot face doing it any more often.

Ds2 (2.0) every couple of days because he makes no fuss and gets lots of grot in his hair.

onebadbaby · 24/02/2010 20:38

Every other day- to remove glue, jam, paint, honey etc. DDis 4 and has long fine hair- i can't comb it if left any longer!

Lotster · 24/02/2010 20:42

At least four times a week, my 3 year old smells a bit of "nursery" when he gets home, and my almost one year old rubs her food through her hair until it stands on end!

hmmSleep · 24/02/2010 20:43

This is making me think I'm a bit grubby, dcs have a bath every other day, and hair tends to get wet with splashing etc, but I only actually wash it once every 3 weeks. It just doesn't need it more than that, they both have sensitive skin so try and avoid any kind of shampoo / soap as much as possible.

spiderlight · 24/02/2010 20:43

Roughly every other day - I try to wash it with headlice-repelling shampp the night before his two nursery sessions and it starts to look grubby if left for more than two days - not greasy so much as full of mud/pasta sauce/paint. Trying to bath him without wetting it is pointless because he gleefully pours cupfuls of water over himself.

Woollymummy · 24/02/2010 20:47

DD is 3 1/2, long fine hair so gets washed every three days or so, and gets shampoo, conditioner and serum combed in so it doesn't get tangled. Gorgeous down but must be up daily or it is tricky. DS is nearly 2, getting long in the hair dept, looks like a little Finnish bass player (?) and very cute. Generally nicer when clean, but more tickly when filthy

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 24/02/2010 20:52

DS's are both very active and sweaty boys,
they have a fullbath every night shampoo from top of head to bottom of feet every time.

they have short easy dry hair - not sure what I would do if they were girls who needed hair styling.

BertieBotts · 24/02/2010 21:03

I have been known to just wash DS' hair with water, even when it is caked in jam etc, it does get most of it out provided you use warm water. Not as clean as shampooing but I only shampoo when absolutely necessary as trying to build up his confidence in hair washing and trying to make sure I have rinsed all the shampoo out is more traumatic than a quick flannel on the head.

PrivetDancer · 24/02/2010 21:04

Whenever it looks like it needs washing which is probably about every 2 weeks. Don't get it wet otherwise (on purpose at least)

LadyBiscuit · 24/02/2010 21:09

Hair washed once a week - don't wet it any other time. It smells fine

Lerato · 24/02/2010 21:10

Am I the only person who doesn't use shampoo? They get their hair wet most baths (x4 a week roughly) and I make sure all the muck is washed off. But I only use water, unless something greasy has got into their hair. Can't remember the last time I used shampoo. Months ago. They are only 1 and 3, so will change as they get older and hormonal. Do young ones really need regular shampoo?

ahedgehogisdueinMarch · 24/02/2010 21:10

DS 20 months likes to tip bowls of water over his head in the bath and likes to help wash himself which more often than not results in baby wash/shampoo being rubbed into his hair daily.

But I like the look of it once he comes out and it is all wet and curly and cute, whereas during the day when it is just fine and not as cute
