I swear every second of it sounds like some banging at my head with a hammer!

I think I need to go and hide and cry

How old is your baby? It took me ages to work out that my 4m old cries when she wants to go to sleep, DS was all about food!

Expect you have tried everything already, my last resort is going out with the buggy or in the car.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 08/02/2010 14:36

Baby's cry, it's what they do when they want feeding/changing etc.

Is it a neighbours? Have you been round to see if mum's OK?

abitchilly · 08/02/2010 14:37

Do go into a separate room, shut the door and try to calm down for a few moments.

I know that awful feeling when it's like a hammer and you need to calm down and try to remember it will pass.

How old is the baby? Is he/she poorly?

How do you feel now?

Put the baby in the buggy, wrap yourself up and go for a walk. The crying is maddening, I do sympathise. The thing that kept me sane was the long walks around the streets! A bit of fresh air will make you both feel better.

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2010 14:38
Sad
memoo · 08/02/2010 14:39

She is my baby, she is 4 months old. I have fed her, changed her, rocked her etc. Se just won't stop. I really am at the end of my tether.

I have out her in her basket now in the other room for 5 minutes while I calm down

teething?

it is awful

i think getting out of the house is a good idea

crying doesn't sound so intense out doors

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2010 14:40

will she feed more?

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 14:41

vacuum cleaner
going out for a walk
feed her constantly
hold her and hm or danec with her slowly and sing in her ear
hold her tight yo you and sing whilst your head is on her head so she feels the sound too

ring a friend and get them to take over

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 08/02/2010 14:41

Can you take his for a walk?

Liquid anbesol's great for teething pain.

Emalina · 08/02/2010 14:41

It won't hurt to shut the door and go into another room for a break for 20 mins or so (that's the longest I could bear to leave DS crying). Oh - I just saw abitchilly's reply above - that's pretty mch what I was going to say.

To echo what my HV and MW both said to me in the early days - if baby (in my case DS) is fed, changed & winded then let him cry

Make yourself a cuppa and take a break, do you have an MP3 player - you will still hear crying, but it can help a bit.

wonderingwondering · 08/02/2010 14:42

Leaving her to cry is sometimes the only thing to do. Don't feel bad about it.

I used to watch the clock - when you leave them crying, it can feel like hours. If you watch the time, it is usually only a minute or two, but it gives you a breather, time to calm down, and think rationally about what to do - i.e. is she ill? Bored? Tired? Just having a good cry (as they do!).

Have a ten minute rest, then, honestly, pop her in the sling or buggy and nip to the shop or have a short walk. Even if she's still crying, it doesn't seem so loud outside.

butadream · 08/02/2010 14:42

I find singing also helps soothe DD (with rocking) whilst at the same time blocking out some of the crying for me! Can recommend 12 days of Christmas as it goes on for ages and keeps your mind busy remembering it all.

CoteDAzur · 08/02/2010 14:42

Check fingers & toes for entwined hairs (yours). Almost invisible but quite painful.

Check inside her mouth for hair.

Stick her on a breast and see if that calms her down.

memoo · 08/02/2010 14:42

She won't feed anymore have tried, have tried giving her a little water too but refuses that. it may well be teething, she has been dribbling like mad for days.

I am going to go out for a walk when i can stop myself from sobbing for 5 mintues

Yy go for a walk. It may be the last thing you feel like but the fresh air does help.

I'm a big dummy fan too but suspect you'll have tried that.

I have a screamer too and it's hard, really hard. Try chanting 'it will pass, it will pass, it WILL pass....' through gritted teeth if necessary.

I really feel for you, it's tough.

Does she stop if you pick her up? If so, could you take her out for a walk in a sling?

If she doesn't stop when you pick her up then I do think its a good idea to just take her out in the pram.

It is horrible. I bet you have 1000 things you could be getting on with if she'd only stop. Poor you.

CoteDAzur · 08/02/2010 14:45

Put in a paracetamol suppository and see if that helps. If it does, then you know she had pain somewhere.

Ineedsomesleep · 08/02/2010 14:45

Have you got someone who will pop around for 10 minutes for you?

wonderingwondering · 08/02/2010 14:45

Wipe your face, it's freezing so the fact you are or have been crying won't show. Wrap your scarf around your face. I've done it, I think we all have. It is completely normal for babies to cry and for you to feel as you do.

PacificDogwood · 08/02/2010 14:46

Sling?
Go for walk with her in pram?

DS1 was a screamer, 'tis awful, almost finished me off...

Does she usually cry a lot? Then Cry-sis might be of help.

Hope she settles soon.

Bicnod · 08/02/2010 14:46

Oh you poor thing have you tried calpol? If she's got teething pain it should help her pretty quickly...

It does sound like teething with all the dribbling...

memoo · 08/02/2010 14:49

She doesnt stop when i pick her up and she hates the sling. she is quite hard work sometimes anyway, well compared to my first 2 but don't mind giving her lots of attention its just that piercing screaming that goes through me.

I have put her in her snowsuit ready to go for a walk and put her in pram and she has stopped!

sorry for typos but my head is so full i can't think straight

thanks for all replies.

don't have any family or friends nearby to ask for help or anyone I can phone during the day when Its crappy like this so really appreciate having advice on here.

My ds cried like this for 2 days when he was about the same age, it was proper screaming and was driving me mad - turns out he had an ear infection, maybe get her checked if she keeps it up for too long
