What are your toddlers wearing to bed in this cold weather?

It is so cold here that my toddler is having to wear a larger size sleepsuit to accommodate all the layers underneath!

He is wearing:
a thermal short sleeved vest
a normal cotton poppered vest
a GAP tight fitting cotton pyjamas set (top and bottom)
a velour all in one sleepsuit
a 2.5 tog sleeping bag

Is the heating off at night?

When it is this cold, I admit to leaving the heating on all night - though turned down a bit from daytime temps.

Woobie · 08/01/2010 21:18

Don't you have heating????

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/01/2010 21:19

Heating off during the night but upstairs stays cosy right until early hours. We must have good roof insulation!
Toddler wears PJs with vest underneath and has a sheet, duvet and light blanket on the bed.

Mine just has a vest and baby gro thingy on. Then plenty of blankets. I'd rather have lots of blankets than clothes - he can throw off the blankets if too hot but can't take clothes off. I'm in Scotland and it's very VERY cold here but he is toasty warm.

Oh wait, he also has tights on!

IlanaK · 08/01/2010 21:22

Yes, we have heating. But we are living at my mother's flat at the moment which is in an old Victorian building with single glazed sash windows so the heat disappears quite quickly. She does leave it on all night, but not on very high - which I totally agree with.

I am warm enough under a thick duvet with warm pyjamas. My older two are also under duvets. But my toddler is in a cotbed still and no duvet.

3yr old is wearing vest, pjs, socks, a winter tog grobag and a light duvet. Tbh, he'd be fine with just the duvet but he throws it off during the night and then wakes up, hence the grobag.

No heating on at night but he's cosy.

compo · 08/01/2010 21:24

I wouldn't be happy about the snowsuit on top
i'd rather have him in with me tbh

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2010 21:28

Its comftorable enough in our house so he is wearing long sleeved jersey jammies

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/01/2010 21:28

4 year old is in pyjamas with a 7.5 tog duvet.

19 month old is in a vest, pyjamas and in a 2.5 tog grobag.

Our heating ticks over at 17 degrees overnight.

IlanaK · 08/01/2010 21:35

What snowsuit? He is wearing a velour sleepsuit which is sold by Verdtbaudet for babies to sleep in. It looks like a normal sleepsuit, just thicker and velour feeling.

long trousered, long sleeved pjs. A nice warm duvet, and a nice warm house. The heating is on a timer, adjusted for this weather to ensure it does not get cold at night.

PavlovtheCat · 08/01/2010 21:42

i guess i am very lucky, i don't even wear anything to bed in this weather. I have a duvet and coverlet, i cannot sleep in pjs. They ride.

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2010 21:42

mine has a fleecy sleepsuit to go over pj's....but its too small,so tonight i chopped off the feet....with socks he's toasty again!

JeMeSouviens · 08/01/2010 21:44

Mine is just in a nappy, his choice though

IlanaK · 08/01/2010 21:46

Its a real contrast living in a colder flat. Our flat that we sold was extremely warm. The kids often went to bed in summer short pyjamas even in winter. Since moving here though we have had to totally revamp our wardrobes. I have spent a fortune on velour pyjamas for all three boys as well as lots of thermal vests and trousers (the trousers are for playing outside ,not sleeping!).

We had ceiling fans on all through winter in our old flat and I usually wore thin pyjamas to bed. Here I am wearing long sleeved pyjamas and need a hot water bottle too. In fact, my older two boys take a hot water bottle to bed each night too, but I don't put one in with the toddler.

This week sent my 4 yr old to bed in a vest, PJ's and socks. He thinks I am bonkers. He's got a thick duvet.

My baby is in a thick romper suit and gro-bag. I have worried about him but his room is little and holds the heat well.

Pannacotta · 08/01/2010 21:48

Just a nappy?
How does he make that choice? Is your house very warm JeMeSouviens?

Pannacotta · 08/01/2010 21:50

DS1 (5) wears thermal PJs and DS2 wears PJs and vest underneath.
Both have 9 tog duvets plus blankets, no heating at night as we cant control it well so it woudl get too hit/stuffy.

wilkos · 08/01/2010 21:51

she 2.4 and wearing a poppered short sleeved vest with brushed cotton long sleeved pyjamas on top. she has one blanket on top at the mo. when I go to bed I will sling a cot duvet on top of her as well as the heating goes off at about 11.30 and our landlord has not seen fit to insulate this damn expensive house properly

and then she will wake at 4am and complain because she has thrown the whole lot off and seemingly be incapable of putting the blankets over herself again

QandA · 08/01/2010 21:53

My DS has vest, fleece pyjamas and socks or all in one fleece sleepsuit then a quilt, and a thinner blanket on top once we go to bed and the heating has gone off.

Sounds like we are not far off your 'nightwear' Ilana, I don't keep the heating on overnight and it does get very cold.

Mine are in their normal long sleeve, long leg pyjamas and 7 tog duvet. But they do both have a hot water bottle as they just love them and their room does get a little chilly.

We don't usually have the heating on at night at all and H and I have the radiator turned off in our bedroom, window open and sleep with nothing but have a very toasty duvet - we both hate stufyf bedrooms despite living in an old cold cottage.

But, we have an oil fired boiler which is located outside and it has a cold weather setting that you can't mess with. When it's very cold the boiler comes on automatically to prevent the pipes freezing outside. So the heating has been coming on all night in this bad weather and there's not much we can do to stop it. We can turn the thermostat down and that stops it coming on so much but if we turn it too low it's freezing in the morning when we need it on.

JeMeSouviens · 08/01/2010 21:56

Very warm house. I say pj's on, he says no and throws them, he'd soon tell me if he was cold
