hello,

we have been using tots bots coloured bamboo aplix nappies now with motherease wraps since ds was 2 weeks and has been going really well until recently.

at night time i add a booster pad and use the xl airflow wrap but most of the time when he gets up he is soaking and i've to start and strip beds, wash, dry, etc so is starting to annoy me and more so that the poor wee man is uncomfortable and cold too! it does happen sometimes in the day but they are becoming a bit too tight on him for day use too.

the problem may be that he now at 20 months weighs 32lbs and is 90 something cms!! so what nappy would you all recommend? if i had to buy a whole new set i'd rather do it now so he gets full use out of them iykwim?

thanks if you've read all this, please help!!!

oh and i have seen these nappies 'nappies by minki - huggle' on the website i get the wraps/liners from and wondered what about these as they have a size 35lb+ but wonder if they'd take forever to dry?...

I love bamboo quick flips with a booster for night. I can't remember what size their large are though so you may need to contact them to see if they can make you an xl (they are lovely people).

Lots of people swear by huggles but I never got on that well with them myself tbh. Think it might have been due to baby shape than anything else though.

Add your booster (or two) between the nappy and the wrap - then the nappy will fit better, the booster will push the nappy closer to him, so less likely to leak down the leg and out.
I always liked the Motherease 'Toddlerease' as they have separate poppers at waist and thigh, and are nicely tall. They're now made in bamboo sow would be a lovely slim nappy, the only downside they do take longer than the Bamboozles to dry.

thank you both. will try the boosters between the nappy and wrap and see how that goes. if he's still leaking i may have to invest in some more nappies! have looked at the 2 you guys recommended, is the bamboo quick flip made by kiwi quick flip?

yup

octothechildherder · 03/01/2010 12:29

I would get a pumpkin pants fleece soaker in XL rather than new nappies - solves the problem straight away - I had the same problems for years until discovered fleece at night.

Hopefully · 03/01/2010 15:27

Gosh, can't believe you've managed on tots bots bamboo for so long!

Might be worth trying a fleece or wool wrap, which might mean you'll be able to continue using those nappies.

If not, I find the wee notions night notions nappies the absolute best for us for night time (DS quite a heavy wetter I think). Sometimes I use wool longies over them, sometimes a normal motherease wrap, but either way we don't get any leaks before morning.

nicm · 04/01/2010 09:00

thank you. i've tried the fleece at night and he was wet in the morning too!

why do you say that about the nappies hopefully? when i bought them i was told they would last until potty training with a booster at night...i now doubt it!! will have a look at the wee notions too.

mumSmileyface · 04/01/2010 09:43

I would definately use fleece or wool at night. It is much more breathable than PUL and allows a lot of the wee to evaporate. I like Snugglepants as they look funky as daytime trousers too.

NappyShedSal · 04/01/2010 14:34

Pumpkin Pants do some lovely soakers and Flongies - as stocked by nappywardrobe and thenappyshed

nicm · 04/01/2010 16:29

so he is still leaking with the fleece pants wrap and that was the xl size i ordered from bebesnuggles.

i'm not sure about the wool as it sounds like so much work? is it????

i think maybe we need new nappies? dp thinks they may be 'done', but surely not after 1 baby and he's only 20 months and before that we had the size 1 tots bots until about 9 months! so they're not that used.

is there anyone you can recommend that i can ring and speak to? i was going to call kittykins as i've bought my wraps/liners from them in the past, does anyone know if they're any good?

thanks

the place i got my nappies has gone bum genius only from what i can gather and when i called for advice before they said-sorry can't help, don't sell those anymore-so not much use!

I love kittykins, also love twinkle.

If you are thinking of giving wool a whirl, Disana shorties are not the most beautiful in the pictures but boy do they do the job! And they look really cute on. And they are a reasonable price. And they come in nice colours too now.

I use wool and fleece on DS3 at night, it's been a revelation. I wouldn't dream of using PUL at night ever again.

Wee Notions Night Notions are lovely and VERY effective. You shouldn't need too many as they come apart and the bits all dry quite fast. I think I prefer them to Bedbugs at the moment. Or is that blasphemy?

Babybots · 04/01/2010 17:52

I agree use the boosters in between nappy and wrap and see how that helps also fold the booster in half and put it specifically in the wet zone. YOu can of course use more than one booster if you need too as long as the wrap stays snug.

Fleece works well for me too but never used wool.

Also maybe invest in some hemp boosters and see if that helps.

You could always try a specific night nappy like a bedbug, UD, WN? they are expensive but do work well.

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 18:17

Have just realised how big he is now - would def get a night nappy like WN and stick with the fleece.

nicm · 04/01/2010 20:52

thanks all! i think we might just have to get new nappies then!!

what do you all recommend for larger toddlers then, 32lbs+?

wee notion night nappies-would these do day time as well as night time? what are bedbugs? minki nappies from kittykins or are there better ones out there for bigger toddlers?

i think i might ring kittykins and twinkle tomorrow.

this is such a minefield! how did my mum cope with terry squares!!??

I would get an easy peasy bumper and stacinator wrap - try nappyzone. I would be happy to talk to you on the phone but don't sell nappies really anymore either - try cloth nappy tree for sale board before buying anything new or post a wanted on mn classified.

fluffish · 04/01/2010 21:08

Wee Notions Night Notions - I'm partial to the ones with bamboo velour outers but I haven't tried the others. Large are pretty large but I've only tried them on DS3 who is not quite one yet.

Bedbugs are American, gorgeous and horribly pricey. Jabula sells them as do Babybots and Bums 'N' Roses. They do Toddler Bedbugs which, I imagine, would be right for you.

If your current nappies work fine in the day time, I'd stick with them for daytime if I were you and only get a couple of night nappies.

fluffish · 04/01/2010 21:10

And yes, keep your eye out for preloved fluff.

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:30

My DS3 is 24 months old, 95 cm tall an weighs 35lbs and I use a whole variety of nappies at night (all 2 parters) and find that the only way to see him through the night is to boost with bamboo (nothing else is absorbent enough). Like the others have said, putting the booster between the nappy and wrap works best, my son has L ME airflow wraps that only just fit him.

I've also tried wool and it worked really well, although I still had to boost, I didn't need as much. WNNN were a recent acquisition of mine (got the many bamboo layered, velour topped one made) but it doesn't see him through the night sadly (but is totally gorgeous and cuddly, like him!!).

fluffish · 04/01/2010 21:36

WNNN didn't your DS through the night? Did it have plenty of washes to get it up to full absorbency?

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:40

Yes, at least 3 prior to use and it's been used loads since. The whole nappy isn't soaking but it leaks at the legs as soon as the bamboo bit is wet in that area. Great for about 4 hours in the day though.

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 21:44

tellyaddict - have you tried fleece over it? I struggled for ages with ME covers at night and was amazed by fleece and that he stayed dry - even with just a lollipop softee underneath he was dry in the morning and ds3 is a very heavy wetter.

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 21:45

Tellyaddict - Are you going to the thing on the 24th?

tellyaddict · 04/01/2010 21:52

Octo - haven't put fleece over it (it's an AI2) and anyway fleece didn't work for us on 2 parters before.

I was thinking about going on the 24th - are you??

octothechildherder · 04/01/2010 22:05

Not sure atm - maybe!
