What do your kids call you?

Before my ds was born I was adamant that I wanted to be called by my first name - not 'Mummy' (or anything similar) - as I grew up calling my parents by their first names. I thought it'd feel weird being called the same thing as loads of other people, and I just don't much like the word. My dp wasn't too keen though, and the in-laws were a bit when we told them.

Anyway, it's all gone out the window since ds was born. I keep calling myself 'Mummy', I think because that's what the nurses and midwives, and everyone else, called me in hospital.

How do you feel about being a 'Mummy'? And what are the alternatives? Ds is only five weeks old so still time to change!

"Anya" (mom in hungarian) or Mom from my 16 yr old bilingual son. ""Apa" - in hungarian or Dad for his father.

Never has he called me by my name. Tbf - I didn't use his very often either. I used to call him ""cica" (kitten), but since got an actual kitten/cat it is confusing :) so no we have kitten (the cat), bigger kitten (son), big cat (H) - but only use it in hungarian.

mummy, little mummy, mummalicious, mother dearest, best mother ever, best mother in the whole wide world, "bloody woman" (IT crowd), lovely mummy, cupcake, female (FND), Superwoman, Super mummy, Mummy the Hun (I'm Hungarian), Queen of Mash, driver, chef, mum dude, Mrs Mummy, moo cow....

There have definitely been more but I can't remember all of it.
The teens went through a phase of trying to win an argument with "ok boomer" 🙄 and protest against being asked to do chores with "mein fuhrer"🤬.
I shut that shit down.

I was adamant mine would call me by my name, never did. I have twins, one has always called me mama/mummy and the other mom/mommy. No idea why!

OnNaturesCourse · 07/11/2021 23:26

I am Muma to my two.

Oldest does change it to Mum sometimes.

I don't like the Mummy term personally so I did actively stamp that out when they were little.

However they know my name, and after calling Muma/Mum a few times they will revert to it. This is helpful in public places.
