What do your kids call you?

Before my ds was born I was adamant that I wanted to be called by my first name - not 'Mummy' (or anything similar) - as I grew up calling my parents by their first names. I thought it'd feel weird being called the same thing as loads of other people, and I just don't much like the word. My dp wasn't too keen though, and the in-laws were a bit when we told them.

Anyway, it's all gone out the window since ds was born. I keep calling myself 'Mummy', I think because that's what the nurses and midwives, and everyone else, called me in hospital.

How do you feel about being a 'Mummy'? And what are the alternatives? Ds is only five weeks old so still time to change!

Mum. The youngest (aged 2) is going through a phase of calling me by my first name which I correct, after I've had a quiet chuckle to myself. Everyone else can call me by my first name, my job description is what I have at work and reflects what I'm paid to do there - my children are the only people in the world who are able to call me Mum, and it's incredibly special.

Not sure where that came from !!!!!!!!!

I would like ds1 (3) to call me mummy but he always says mum which always sounds too grown up for him, although saying that he quite often refers to me the same way dh does, 'Mrs.B or Babes'!!

FABIsInTraining · 16/10/2009 21:05

They call us mummy and daddy, rarely mum but I prefer mummy.

CybilLiberty · 16/10/2009 21:06

I could not bear to be called by my first name by my child.

fabhead · 16/10/2009 21:08

I am Mamma or Mum - not sure why as I have only ever referred to myself or any other mothers as Mummy which they hardly ever say - they are 2 and 4

ElenorRigby · 16/10/2009 21:12

I love being called mummy! Or rather 'munneeeeeeeeeeee!!!'

Chrysanthamum · 16/10/2009 21:24

Mum usually by 7yr old or sometimes clumsy mumsy
My 20 month old calls me buddy for some reason. I like it but people are starting to correct him so I'm sure he'll outgrow it.
Their dad is papa.

shinybaubles · 17/10/2009 08:48

Mama and Papa here.

lulalullabye · 17/10/2009 08:51

since moving to Australia, Mamma.

sticktoyourgins · 17/10/2009 09:55

I absolutely love my 4yo DD calling me mummy. Anyone who wants their dc to call them by their name is a loon.

AvengingGerbil · 17/10/2009 11:19

Ok, I'm a loon. Don't care.

mum and dad

munny and daddy when they want something

I did tell them if we ever move to Dublin, they can have the strongest dublin accent they want but they cant call me "ma" grrrr
I hate that name, and its a quiet derogatory term in this part of the country.

teamcullen · 17/10/2009 11:43

mummy when they want something
not munny. Although they usually want money

jemart · 17/10/2009 11:48

Mum or Mummy, very occaisionally have also been called Mother in strident and authorative tones!

Hulababy · 17/10/2009 13:06

7y dd calls is mummy and daddy and that is what I prefer.

I hate hearing people regardless of age refering to their parents by their names. I find it quite odd and very unusual.

To me mummy is not a job title. Being a mum is not a job to me. Mummy is jus who I am with my child.

overmydeadbody · 17/10/2009 13:11

DS calls me mummy or (more often) mum, but when he is refering to me to other people, he never says "my mum", he just calls me by my name.

I like this.

overmydeadbody · 17/10/2009 13:13

and he calls me "mummy darling" when he wants something.

MrsJiggle86 · 17/10/2009 13:17

Muuuma, my ds is 16months old and only ever shouts it when he is upset or tired
