Can anyone help? I'm 18 and 24 weeks pregnant, need some friendly people to talk to. Not just about pregnancy but everything. Life's pretty crap at the moment and i really need some girly support.

Sweetheart - Fingers crossed for your scan!

STM - I have ds (4 in 3wks time OMG!) and a dd who is 10mths old. I had terrible PND after ds was born so didn't really appreciate how wonderful being a parent was until ds was 18mths old.

sweetheart · 06/06/2005 11:26

we haven't told her yet.

She was very excited about the last baby. Having to tell her he had died was so hard. I don't ever want to go through that again.

We are having a special scan in London at 18 weeks. Providing they say the baby is healthy then we will tell her after that.

singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:27

i hope you're enoying it now though. I'm certainly looking forward to it now. You planning anymore?

OP posts:
singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:31

I bet that was the hardest thing ever! I really hope all goes well for you.

Just changing the subject alittle bit. What do you both think about water births?

OP posts:
sweetheart · 06/06/2005 11:34

I don't see the appeal personally. I had a bath when I was in labour.

I really like a hot bath to sooth aches and pains so thought a bath would be great.

The bath water was pretty much cold - it has to be no higher than body temp incase the baby is born into the water.

I only stayed in the bath for about 5 mins - then I got out shivering!!!!!

Kidstrack2 · 06/06/2005 11:34

Hi stm I was 17 when I had my ds, I'm now 23 and ds is nearly 6 and have since had a dd who just turned 2 last week. I'm sure you will cope famously with your ds, you sound fairly headstrong and know where you are at. Doesn't your ex partner realise his fertility levels can return after chemo although many mens fertility doesn't return. My male friend is now the proud dad of 3 lovely children after having testicular cancer and another cancer that affects the lymph nodes, he infact nearly died. He was told he would never have children after all the chemo he had. Hope things are going well apart from that.

singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:35

i thought in the first stages they could have it warmer because the liklihood of it being born is obviously very low becasue it;s only the first stage.

OP posts:
singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:37

Thanks very much Kidstrack.

I think he;s just forgotten all about it now, he doesn't think it concerns him so it;s the end of it now...hopefully.

Thanks for the support though

sweetheart · 06/06/2005 11:38

I wasn't very far into the labour - only first stage

sweetheart · 06/06/2005 11:39

there is a lady on due in June thread called Scraggy Aggy and she is having a home water birth - she was telling me about it the other day - the water in that is heated apparently. Perhaps you could ask her for some advice.

Toothache · 06/06/2005 11:39

STM - Very warm water can stop contractions. I had a natural birth both of mine. I was offered a bath, but declined. I just hated the thought of coming out a getting dried etc... couldn't be arsed! Plus you can't have any of the hard drugs in the water.

I most definitely want more kids!! Need a bigger house though as we're only in a 2 bedroomed at the mo.

singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:47

Cheers sweetheart.

My midwife keeps telling me i'm in a better position than most mums, because i;m young my ds should just slip out, she said i definately shouldn't have an epidural and might be ok on just gas and air, which is ok in the pool, i guess we'll just have to wait and see, it; the only bit i'm not looking forward to. I finish work in 8weeks and then will have more time to worry about it....aaaaaaaaaaaaah

bumpylump · 06/06/2005 11:49

Hiya, I can highly recommend a WaterBirth as someone who wasnt sure and didnt have a brith plan to speak of, it was so relaxing. Had a big pool at our local hospital, dimmed lighting and a cd player. Thought I'd want the heavy drugs but the midwife poured warm water over my tummy at each contraction and it was bliss (apart from the bit when dp fell asleep and my head went under the water

It was great to be able to be all floaty too.

Toothache · 06/06/2005 11:50

STM - lol Just relax and look forward to it. Let your body decide whats happening. And don't have too many rigids plans as they could all be up in the air in SECONDS! I'm looking forward to your thread in 15wks time saying "Right girls, I'm 39wks pg and pissed off.... how will I get labour going??"

singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:55

lol....i suppose noone can give the advice to have sex!! lol....guess it'll be curry all the way!!

Cheers bumpy, i think i;ll try and get one...i know a nice warm bath always used to help with periods, totally different i know. But isn't it bliss not having them anymore!!

OP posts:
sweetheart · 06/06/2005 11:55

lol

I love that!!!

Since when did babies just "slip out"!!!!!!!!!

ROFL!!!

I only had gas and air btw and it was fine.

singleteenagemum · 06/06/2005 11:57

Do you reckon it was just her way of making me feel better Sweetheart? my mum's been telling me about when she had me, she ripped really badly and three layrs of 63 stitches, maybe i'll have a c-section

OP posts:
Toothache · 06/06/2005 11:59

STM - You could always enlist the help of a male friend just for those purposes!!

Toothache · 06/06/2005 12:01

STM - I tore badly with ds.... but only had 2 stitches with dd!! Don't think it's anything to do with age really.
Start taking Arnica when you go into labour... 2 wks after I had dd I felt completely back to normal. I'm putting it down to Arnica as I felt like a train had crashed into my nether regions after ds was born.

bumpylump · 06/06/2005 12:02

I would have rather had a vindaloo than any rumpy pumpy at 39 wks, no doubt

sweetheart · 06/06/2005 12:02

Yes she probably is - and thats her job really isn't it.

I tore very badly with my dd. I lost lots of blood and was anemic after her birth. I passed out three times. Once was in the loo - with my pants around my ankles (very )

You'll be fine - women wouldn't keep doing it if it was that bad - but shhhh don't tell any men that - especially not my dh

sweetheart · 06/06/2005 12:03

Ohhh yes Arnica - fabulous adive toothache

It's brilliant stuff - thanks to it I was up and about after only 4 days.
