Is it unusual that I've never heard my children (8 and 6) say a swear word?

In Germany people say it is a normal phase they go through in which they will say swear words. But my dd's have never said any, ever (in my presence that is, or dh's). Are they the exception?

My DD1 is nearly 11 and the worst I've heard her say is Oh My God.

My parents still think I've to go through this phrase. I'm 28 and NEVER swear in front of them.

They are saying them all behind your back - you should be worrying about where!

Actually, my 6yo ds hasn't used any swear words beyond Oh My God - he's repeated the odd one that he's heard for the first time from a passer-by/on TV/when I've dropped something on my toe as if checking he's heard it right, but never repeated them in front of us. And I've not had any complaints so presumably not in front of anyone else we know, either...

My children don't swear either. 11 and 7.5yrs. Although have heard other kids in their school swearing I hate it!

Just remembered... a CM asked DS2 aged 7.5 not to say 'fart' in her house. Is 'fart' swearing?!

My DS repeated a couple of words he'd heard me say in the car when he was about 3 but after I apologised and said they were naughty words, mummy shouldn't have said them and he shouldn't either, I've never heard him swear again.

I was really when DD started saying shite - not a word either me or dh use and shes only 22 mo - was such a relief when I worked out she was trying to tell me she wanted to go outside

I don't think my 6yr old swears or uses swear words in his conversations, at least not around me, and he hears them often enough.

I don't swear myself but I am more than convinced that my DS joins in with the swearing that goes on at football matches when I am not there!! But I have never heard him swear so he obviously knows that I wouldn't want to hear that from him.

Mind you when he was much younger we were standing in the queue in the supermarket. The man behind us was swearing very loudly, very often. DS in a clear loud voice that he had obviously copied from Mary Whitehouse...'MUMMY - that man is S-W-E-A-R-I-N-G. That is a sign of a limited vocabulary isn't it MUMMY'!!!

Yes, and I would be pretty worried about children who had never enjoyed swearing. It's a normal, healthy phase to want to shock your parents etc by swearing.

Mine haven't sworn, htough both know about swear words ( so they tell me, form the school bus).
They are 5 and 8.
Although dd2 did confess tome when we were on holiday that she had broken somehting and said a swear word - idiot
I know thta dd1 knows a lot of bad language but she doesn't say so at home.

But they both say fart.

mine haven't sworn yet, they say things like BUM and Fart which are as rude as we get at the moment.

DS2 (8) has said a very rude word at a party becuse he was led to believe it meat something else. Other than that I can say in all fairness that I have never heard my DCs swear. The eldest is 10.

I have been married to DH for 13 years and have NERVER heard him swear, not even in situations where I would have had to contain myself a lot not to. I use "home made" swear words or just swear "internally".

my eldest is 18 and i have never heard her swear whether she does it when im not aorund i dont know but ive never heard her. i have 3 other children, dd16 dd11 ds9, i havent heards my dd11 nor my ds9 swear but have heard my dd16 swear, she even swore in front of us twice and have read her using very innapropriate words on facebook.

then again no one in our family swears excpet the irish lot but thats not in a nasty way more in general terms lol

as for my dh ive heard him swear and hes heard me lol

I have an 11 and 13 year old- I have never heard either of them swear.
