Tell me it's normal for an 8 yr old boy to pretend to have done face, hands and teeth whe he hasn't really?

I am on to him and double check but it is SO wearing. Esp when we are going out to buy HIM a playstation game. I am happy to stay home! Aargh!

So - is it normal or does he need an extra kick up the bum for being abnormally lazy/grotty??!!

Completely and utterly normal. And don't expect it to get better any time soon!

Totally normal. They tend to get round to it when they are about 27.

Absolutely normal. Doesn't mean you don't need to work on it though - don't let him get away with it.

DS 13 and DD11 are sometimes still a little hazy about whether they have washed etc

Yes boys are in the main grotty creatures. My 17 years old son loves to shower, do his hair etc but has to be forced to cut his toenails. My 14 year old son will go to great lengths to avoid getting clean. He can't have a shower in the morning as we all do because he wouldn't do all the washing. He has to have a bath at night time. At least hot soapy water gets everywhere. I still have to ask has he washed under his arms and bits and face with soap, and has he shampooed his hair. He won't if I don't make him. You wonder how men don't all die from septic poisoning.

It's not just boys, dd is 8 and will look me straight in the face and tell me she has washed. It's only when I threaten to go and see if her toothbrush is wet or ask her to open her mouth that she'll admit she hasn't!

DS2 got better about lying about teeth brushing once he went to the dentist for a filling...

And they smell too....a sort of grassy, sweaty little boy smell which isn't unpleasant but just..there! God help us when ds (10) starts sprouting hair and having nocturnal emissions....

I still go in the bathroom with my 8 year old dd and supervise . Its just automatic - I haven't thought about giving it up yet. Suppose I should now . But I could trust her to do it, she is very fastidious - she even had two showers when we went camping last weekend, bless her.

Almost 6 yo ds is another kettle of fish though....

took my 15 yr old son to dentist ( oldest now 19) told him to brush his teeth. he couldn't be arsed and just used mouthwash.

the dentist went apoplectic at his rancid mouth and looked at ME!

i said " he is 15. Tell HIM"

normal here to with our 8yr old ds.

also changing pants,wearing day clothes to bed and lots of other disgusting things.

I always make a comment like 'well, it's you not me that will have black falling out teeth with holes in that need fillings'

always means a quite sneak back to the bathroom without me knowing so he can brush them

mine leaves her picallili knickers on the floor inside out....
doesn't use her deodrant unless I force her
hates bathing

yet will put something in the wash when she has had it on for 20 mins

Yes, perfectly normal in our house too. My DS is 9 and would wear the same pair of pants/socks for a week.
Eats in bed, wears normal day clothes to bed, or just PJ's all day.

Hates brushing teeth, which I can't understand, unless its just a laziness thing. I got him a battery operated one to make it less hassle.

I am not even going to ASK what picallili knickers are.

I've told everyone for years that the minute my eldest DS hits 16 and the youngest hits 13 (which will occur simultaneously) I am out of that house. It's that or die of testosterone/nose poisoning.

Unfortunately we appear to have hit that stage now. DS's are 12 and 8, and they ming hard.

Bloody hell I'm glad it's normal. My 8 yo swears blind he washes and brushes his teeth I know he dosen't as I caught a glance at him earlier and he has INGRAINED dirt on his neck. How did it come to that!!
Now that's just neglectful on my part. I will wash him myself now if I have to.

Although I really shouldn't have to be washing him.

12 yo is the same except he's a little better and dosen't have ingrained dirt, but he swears he uses soap, the other day I lifted up his armpit for a sniff just as he got out of the bath. Jesus Mary and Joseph I dry heaved.

Dirty little buggers.
