Tell me it's normal for an 8 yr old boy to pretend to have done face, hands and teeth whe he hasn't really?

I am on to him and double check but it is SO wearing. Esp when we are going out to buy HIM a playstation game. I am happy to stay home! Aargh!

So - is it normal or does he need an extra kick up the bum for being abnormally lazy/grotty??!!

You need to read Down with Skool and Just William. They've been at it for years.

all suddenly changed in this house at age 13 when i think he's discovered something new to do in the shower.....(he's up there now!)

DS just came back from 5 day holiday with school.

He told me, yes mum i did change my boxers because I left them on one day under my swimming shorts.

I changed my socks because they got wet

We had a shower this morning because we got told to. (they had on-suite between 2 boys)

Ive just checked his bag. He has 3 clean pairs of boxers and 3 clean pairs of socks!

I havent checked to see if the flannel and toothbrush are wet (not hopeful)

By the way, DS is 10

Have just manhandled him into the shower as he stinks of dog. Is constantly cuddly our new puppy so my little boy doesn't smell like himself anymore but of dog.

He also does the PJs all day thing. That doesn't bother me tbh - saves on teh washing! And he tries to do day clothes in bed but I draw the line at that!

So completely normal for ages up to and probably including 21.
My DS -aged around 9 -proudly showed me his 'invention'. A spray bottle filled with soapy water which could be aimed at the centre of a cheek and spread around with the aid of a single fingertip.Viola! Washed!
Gotta love the boys

notquitenormal · 07/08/2009 21:05

My Dad does this and he's 50 in a couple of weeks

preciouslillywhite · 07/08/2009 21:12

normal normal normal!!

At about that age I was smugly congratulatin self on my ds's personal hygiene when my friends were moaning about their boys...till I caught him licking his hands after going to the bog and pretending he'd washed them. He fessed up that he's been doing it for ages

lilackaty · 07/08/2009 21:29

Oh, my dd (8) is the same. Her and her friends will all choose their outfits with the utmost care but avoid washing and deodorant as though it is poison!!! Dirty scutters.
ds (5), on the other hand, loves having a bath but will not wash once in it!!!

My DS is a hygeine freak but my 5yr old DD is allergic to water...

brummiemummie · 07/08/2009 23:11

Both my DSs used to be like this, although the older one (16yo) has got a lot better in the last couple of years - especially now he has a girlfriend.

11yo DS is still stinky though, he does shower every couple of days but somehow doesn't manage to actually get clean . I've bought him deodorant but afaik he doesn't actually use it. Hopefully he'll get better when he goes into Year Seven in September.

LollipopViolet · 09/08/2009 20:30

Have to admit, I can be like this sometimes (I'm 19 and female!) but for some reason, my sweat has become extremely potent recently! I kid you not, I started using the gym last month and since then....bleugh! Still occasionally forget my teeth in the evening though

When I have kids I think I'll be doing the "supervise them in the bathroom" thing for a long while!

BUT, going to bed in normal clothes??? My mum moans at me if I'm ill and go for a sleep on top of the covers in mine! Ewww!

Yurtgirl · 09/08/2009 20:33

Ds is a soap dodger
and a changing his pants dodger

Arghhhhhh!

Gateau · 10/08/2009 12:06

Totally normal, going by my brother. Can;t remember what age he was by I have recollections of my Mum ordering him upstairs to get washed and him using a dry flannel to pat his face three times. That was a good wash, in his eyes . All that changed from about he aget of 18 when you couldn't get him out of the bathroom or away from the mirror.

neversaydie · 10/08/2009 12:34

Absolutely normal - as is the wide eyed innocence as they lie to you that they have washed their hands/face/whatever and brushed their teeth.

Also the howls of indignation when told to go and do the task properly...

I was particularly peeved, however, when ds(10) told the (young, pretty) dentist the exact truth about his tooth brushing habits last visit!
