Pooing in playground...

My 5 yr old DD nearly always needs to do a poo when we go to a playground (too much jumping around, maybe!). Our playgrounds do not have toilets. What we usually end up doing is going into the bushes at the edge of the field and doing a poo there, pushing it as far back as I can and covering with leaves etc. I know this is disgusting and maybe I should start carrying a bag around for these occasions, but what does everyone else do? Does everyone use the bushes, or does everyone carry bags???!!! (Obviously I wouldn't let her do a poo in the actual playground.)

Buy a pottette.

StrawberrySauce · 17/04/2009 21:41

I have one actually which we use in the car but I can't carry it around forever and I have never seen anyone else use one. Just wondered what other people did.

I always tell DD she can't do a poo and will have to go home. Thats normally enough to take her mind off it so she can play again. I would suggest taking a plastic bag if she really cant hold on.

Heated · 17/04/2009 21:42

sorry x-post

make her go before you go out?

dinkystinky · 17/04/2009 21:44

Get her to poo in a plastic bag and then dispose of it?

StrawberrySauce · 17/04/2009 21:45

She does always go before she goes out but I can almost guarantee she will need to go again. Perhaps I had better start carrying the potty thing around again. I suppose she will eventually be able to hold on...can't keep using it for the next 5 years...

The only safe and hygenic thing you can do is to bury it. Kids round here play in the bushes in the playground and so they would run the serious risk of touching it or stepping in it

FrannyandZooey · 17/04/2009 21:47

yes just take a bag
these things happen

purepurple · 17/04/2009 21:49

Strawberrysauce, I would make her hold it in till you get home.
i have never heard of a child that desperate to have a poo that they have to do it in the bushes.
I am quite shocked by that actually. especially at 5. i bet she can hold it in at school.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 17/04/2009 21:49

Get some nappy sacks, bag the poo and put it in a dogshit bin. I don't know exactly what happens to the bagged-up dogshit from the bins but I can't see it being anything that would be irredeemably compromised by the addition of a human turd and a tissue.

muppetgirl · 17/04/2009 21:49

I'm slightly amazed you just leave it there...

I would take nappy sacks and clear it up. Put it in a dog poo bin.

Your daughter may have a problem I don't know about but I think your daughter does this because she can. If you maybe said no that we can't go to the park if she goes for a poo in a bush then maybe she'll learn to go/hold till the right time?

Ds 1 is 5 and when we have a need to go when we're out he knows we have to find a loo. If we're in the car a bush is acceptable but not in a prak as a regular thing.

monkeypinkmonkey · 17/04/2009 21:51

Tell her to wait!!!

StrawberrySauce · 17/04/2009 21:52

OK thanks for opinions. I'll put a bag in my pocket now!

"i have never heard of a child that desperate to have a poo that they have to do it in the bushes"

well it happens - it can happen quite easily if your child eats a lot of fruit and veg and there is no toilet for miles

muppetgirl · 17/04/2009 21:54

I suppose all children are different but my fruit and veg eating child who can walk for miles has never pooed in a bush.

We have made steam on a hot car tyre though

CoteDAzur · 17/04/2009 21:55

She is 5, not 3.

Unless she has a physical condition that prevents her from holding her poo for several minutes, she should be capable of holding it in until you make it to the nearest toilet.

Am I missing something?

brimfull · 17/04/2009 21:55

yes bag and dog poo bin

kids always need a poo at the worst time

CoteDAzur · 17/04/2009 21:56

Where exactly is this playground that there would be "no toilet for miles"?

FrannyandZooey · 17/04/2009 21:56

but op says there isn't toilets
5 year olds who eat a lot of fresh food can't always hold on for half an hour ime without discomfort / accidents occuring

themoon66 · 17/04/2009 21:57

What solidgold said.

StrawberrySauce · 17/04/2009 21:57

We often walk places so might have to walk nearly half an hour home. I think that's quite hard if you really need the toilet.

OP posts:
brimfull · 17/04/2009 21:57

no toilet at out local one

thisisyesterday · 17/04/2009 21:58

so, she needs to go desperately every single time? even if she has been before you go out??

that does seem a little odd tbh.
i think i'd start taking her home instead
