Pooing in playground...

StrawberrySauce · 17/04/2009 21:37

My 5 yr old DD nearly always needs to do a poo when we go to a playground (too much jumping around, maybe!). Our playgrounds do not have toilets. What we usually end up doing is going into the bushes at the edge of the field and doing a poo there, pushing it as far back as I can and covering with leaves etc. I know this is disgusting and maybe I should start carrying a bag around for these occasions, but what does everyone else do? Does everyone use the bushes, or does everyone carry bags???!!! (Obviously I wouldn't let her do a poo in the actual playground.)

Sorry did you say dd or ds?

ComeOVeneer · 18/04/2009 16:14

Sorry I think this is a troll!

nikki1978 · 18/04/2009 16:48

Errr why would it be a troll?!

Do you go to the playground around the same time on the days you go? Most kids seem to poo at the same sort of time each day. I certainly wouldn't leave it there but don't think it is a huge deal. If she does a poo she needs it so don't think works that she is doing it on purpose. I doubt she is able to brew one up specially .

I had to poo in the bushes once - I was 26. It was very desperate though - had a dodgy tummy

can't you just go to peters house instead of the playground?

ComeOVeneer · 18/04/2009 18:20

Second ever thread OP has posted on. First one was an odd one about neighbours children, and on that one she had only one child and it was a boy!?!?!?!?

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 18:25

It's just the same as irresponsible dog owners.

purepurple · 18/04/2009 19:51

pmsl @ saint2shoes

i hope the op and dd don't ever go to glastonbury
when i went i didn't 'go' for 4 days

geordieminx · 18/04/2009 19:58

You can be fined for not picking up dog shit, surely human shit is the same?

purepurple · 18/04/2009 20:06

I do wonder at what age the OP will find this behaviour unacceptable?
7?
10?
18?
the mind boggles

vess · 18/04/2009 20:16

But a plastic bag is not exactly great for the environment, is it?

even my 20 month old is uncomfortable pooing outside!

she will hold it in quite happily and then let go the moment we set foot in the house (not just our house of course but wherever she can have a bit of privacy) if necessary

i can't believe you have made it normal for your 5 year old daughter to shit in the bushes in a park by allowing her to just, well, do it.

sorry but its just not appropriate, and the fact you have just been leaving it in the bushes

kitkatqueen · 19/04/2009 23:26

I can remember as a child being told I would have to wait to go to the toilet and ending up being physically sick because I was so desperate to go. Is it somehow ok to expect a child to wait up to 30 mins to go to the toilet? I wouldn't want to as an adult and I wouldn't expect my dp too or in fact anyone in my family. Would you expect a grandparent to wait that long?

My dd is activley discouraged from holding on to wee because she has kidney reflux and the consultant told us she should go asap once she says she needs to go. He also said this should in practise apply to children who don't have reflux as it can have kidney issues.

When I take my kids to the park I take them to enjoy themeselves. Personally I can't do that if I need the toilet and I don't expect my children to either. I always take a potette with me and will sheild my child with buggy / coats etc. I agree you wouldn't expect your granny to use the potette in the park but you also wouldn't make her hold it (

smee · 20/04/2009 09:57

Take a bag and clear it up, or find a nearby cafe with a toilet. It's not a big deal, it's just a bodily function - am a bit amazed that a fair few of your lo's are embarrassed so early.

CoteDAzur · 20/04/2009 14:06

How many grandparents have you ever seen pooing behind bushes?

at some of the reasoning on this thread.

More at how OP has let this behaviour become a habit.

Toffeepopple · 20/04/2009 14:18

CoteDazur,

I have never seen grandparents poo in the bush, but it is well known that the lack of public toilets has a significant impact on the elderly often meaning they will choose not to go out rather than be caught short.

SS,

I live somewhere where they have shut the park toilets and it is a long walk (probably 30 minutes at child speed) to the nearest toilets so I understand the issue. I think as a one off if caught short it is just about OK. I don't think it is an approprate habit though, and think you need to take action to turn it around, probably taking a potette would be best.

CoteDAzur · 20/04/2009 14:30

"Well known fact" that the elderly don't go out rather than poo in bushes, no less

No, not a well known fact at all. Not anywhere I've ever lived.

The point here is that OP's child is FIVE, not a newly potty trained 3. And it is very inappropriate for a child of 5 to have a HABIT of pooing behind the bushes pretty much each time she goes to the playground.

Toffeepopple · 20/04/2009 14:38

Cote DAzur, "well known fact" was not a good choice of words. I accept that!

But it does come up a lot when you read debates about the decreasing supply of public facilities. I can't remember the percentages, but the number of public loos in most London boroughs has dropped hugely.

Help the Aged said last year that: "More than half of older people simply do not go out due to a lack of toilets in their area. It's shameful." (www.telegraph.co.uk/news/3235366/Public-toilets-in-decline-warn-MPs.html)

If you've never struck it where you live you are lucky.

MrBoombastic · 20/04/2009 15:20

I've been playing D&D for over 10 years, and I still haven't done a shite in a playground. You're all twisted scat fetishists, seriously.

You make me sick.

kitkatqueen · 20/04/2009 20:59

mrboombastic D&D????? Are you drunk and disorderly? Sorry but I don't understand your reference. From the remainder of your post I think you may be

ICANDOTHAT · 21/04/2009 18:32

Closed the toilets at our park (cut backs) and I have let ds2 (aged 6) do his business onto a wipe and put it in a nappy sack. Some kids can't hold their bowels and there is nothing wrong or unusual about that. Some children are just too busy until it's too late. For the record, my ds eats masses of fruit which obviously helps to keep him 'regular' even if it is in an inconvenient place

Feel grateful you don't live in France. I watched in horror as a mother allowed her dc do it on the beach and then buried it Lovely surprise for some poor kid digging later. Ah, the French and their toilet culture, that's another thread!!

ICANDOTHAT · 21/04/2009 18:34

What the feck is D&D? Sounds like it involves a gimp mask

serendippity · 21/04/2009 19:29

Bloody hell you lot, lighten up!

I agree op should carry emergency pottete, I agree op should look into possible causes for needing to go immedatly but some of you are being down right rude.
Strawberry has taken this thread very well imo, and you are still having a go.
She's obviously upset by it, hence starting this thread.
Strawberry- Hope you find a solution!
