DD2 (19 months) pooed in the bath...

... on Mother's Day. Thanks, sweetheart.
I thought children didn't really do this. THANK GOD I had just taken her 5-year old sister out, because I think she would (understandably) have been quite upset. Neither of them have ever done this before. Not sure whether this is a one off, or should I not bath them together again for a while? Anyone else had this happen?

My cat shat in my bath the other day but that was because I inadvertently shut her in my bedroom.

None of my children have done it though but I understand it is fairly common.

littleducks · 23/03/2009 21:28

oh yes they do that, in fact im sure i was asked the lowdown on how to clean it up on a thread once

i would bath seperately or when you are sure she has recently pooed for a bit, dd went through a stage of once a month for a bit then stopped

its gross

lol at Soupy's cat poo . Occasionally, my boys have been known to poo in the bath - DH's job to fish those out thankfully! Best to remain calm and not draw attention to it, DS1 would probably never get in the bath again if he realised DS2 sometimes poo's in there.

rookiemater · 23/03/2009 21:28

Quite a shock when it first happens !

What was her reaction when she did it, thats probably a good clue if she is likely to do it again.

DS does sometimes do this ( he is nearly 3 now). I think he is a bit bunged up and finds it easier to poo in the bath, and no it doesn't get any less disgusting to deal with , oh the joys of motherhood.

I just keep a very close eye on him in the bath as I know the telltale signs and whisk him out if it seems likely, but now he is a bit frightened of the chance it may happen so not as keen on his baths as before.

On the other hand could be a complete one off and never happen again.

MirandaG · 23/03/2009 21:31

Oh god, that is worse...sort of.
I didn't realise it was quite common...obviously no-one must talk about it, or else I've just been oblivious. I shouldn't be surprised really - I mean how is she supposed to know? She looked quite surprised herself and said 'boo'.

DS used to do this.

Did save on the arguments to try and get DD out of the bath. One mention of the word poo and she was out, dried and in her jammies before you could blink.

I did not stop bathing them together, just kept an eye out for the warning signs.

Jux · 23/03/2009 21:32

DD went through a phase of pooing every time she got into the bath. Oh boy, did I let her get dirty!

MirandaG · 23/03/2009 21:34

She does poo ALOT so I suppose in a way it was inevitable. She's a little minx too, so if she got hold of the idea that she wasn't supposed to do it she'd definitely do it again. Think separate baths for a while...much less hysterical anyway.

You are very lucky to get to 19 months and not have this happen! My DS would do this loads when he was younger, esp when he was tiny and was exclusively BFing ie, liquid poo in bath bleuurrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Both DH and I have bathed with him various times only to look down and see a lovely brown plop staring at us. Thankfully he hasn't done it for ages now as his poos are quite predicable

MirandaG · 23/03/2009 21:36

I don't think there were any warning signs! Although I was drying DD1 at the time...

My ds used to get horrible constipation and sometimes putting him in a warm bath was the only thing that helped! But that was a special bath for that purpose alone, and, not surprisingly, he bathed alone while the problem persisted!

MirandaG · 23/03/2009 21:38

Seems I have been lucky because her sister never did it at all!

My DS pooed in the bath when he was about 10 months old, quickly got him out of the bath and onto the mat. Removed offending poo from bath, not realising that he had carried on pooing. Friend who was visiting at the time walked into the bathroom with bare feet........stepped right into it and it squished through her toes. We were both absoltely crying with laughter!!!

Plonker · 23/03/2009 22:00

Dd3 dropped a floater when she was taking a bath with her older sisters ...I swear they have NEVER moved so fast in their lives!!

ragd0ll · 23/03/2009 22:01

Ds had a phase of pooing in the bath, I was pregnant and suffering with morning sickness at the time. I used to bathe him in the mornings, one time he'd had sweetcorn with his dinner the night before. I will forever remember having to fish out sweetcorny poo from the bath whilst throwing up.
Sorry for tmi

alwaysmoving · 24/03/2009 17:59

Oh mine have all done this occasionally.

What you need is a fishing net.

Apparently when dh was growing up him and his 3 siblings used to do this on purpose and blame one of the others.

NellyTheElephant · 24/03/2009 20:54

DD1 (now 4) never did this ever. DD2 (now 2.2) has done so twice both times around 19 months as it happens!! Once DD1 had just got out and once she was still in and was UTTERLY horrified. I potty trained DD2 a couple of months ago so I hope we are now safe from this....... I wouldn't worry too much. It's probably a one off, I wouldn't make an issue of it or go to seperate baths unless you see any signs of it becoming a habit.

wuglet · 24/03/2009 20:57

DD (now 2.9) pooed in the bath pretty much every night from the age of 3 months to about 15 months.

Luckily not too solid so could always be "encouraged" down the plug with the shower rather then having to scoop .

motherinferior · 24/03/2009 20:59

DD2 used to do this an awful lot. The warm water just relaxed her, revoltingly. It still does, but she's old enough to get out and poo in the loo.

DD1 did it a bit too.

NorbertDentressangle · 24/03/2009 21:04

DS did this once when he was about 18m/2yo.

He was in the bath with his big sister at the time - unfortunately she made a bit of a drama out of it and, as a result, we couldn't get DS near the bath for some time and had to just give him quick showers.

edam · 24/03/2009 21:04

ds used to do this every bloody time. And though it was hysterically funny.

Am SO glad he grew out of it.

HeadFairy · 24/03/2009 21:09

ds does it all the time too. The first time I yelped and hoiked him out of the bath, but that scared him and he cried. I try not to scare him now, usually it's a quick hoik out the tub, shower him down. Pass him to dh while I empty the tub, scoop out poo, and fill bath with bleach and water and leave his bath toys to soak for an hour or so. Then thoroughly rinse down everything.

Can't wait for him to grow out of it. I can usually tell when he's about to, he farts quite a lot before doing a poo, so I'm always on the look out if he's starting to fart.

MirandaG · 24/03/2009 21:23

ROFL at HeadFairy
Risked it and put them both in together this evening. No floating events to report. Hopefully it was a one off...

When I was little, I used to share a bath with my brother and he'd always shit. There would always, always be little pellets bobbing on the top of the water under the taps. He used to call my bruises "switches" too, and press them forcefully. And ram my sponge into my mouth.

But I'm OK now!
