I went out this evening with DS1 (10)

We crossed over a road.

I pushed the peican crossing button.

No one fussed to press it, no one said "Me do it! Me do it!" There wasn't a fight to push anyone out of the way to press the button first. No whining.

It was beautiful.

I hear you

footballsgalore · 21/03/2009 20:30

Do you mean there will actually be a point in my life when I will be able to do that?....wow...
what about not having to chase a 3 year old round and round the car before we can get in?

Flibbertyjibbet · 21/03/2009 20:30

I thought you were going to say 'because I saw a mum with two unmanageable boys and they were trying to run about into the road instead of waiting at the crossing with their mum'

Which was me earlier and a VERY judgy lady with one perfect dd was glaring at me!

I am waiting for the bit where we can pass a small wall without someome demanding to walk on it. And my youngest is 12 weeks so I have a loooooong wait

MrsMattie · 21/03/2009 20:35

lol!

DS has been known to burst into tears if some innocent old lady presses the button before he gets to it.

Babbity · 21/03/2009 20:36

@ Lynette and TheProvincialLady

Dottoressa · 21/03/2009 20:36

Good lord. We have an Issue about button-pressing - kicking and squalling and generally being revolting about it. We even have to have a written record of whose turn it is. Argh.

noonki · 21/03/2009 20:38

or have a total meltdown because you gave breakfast in the wrong bowl/cup/spoon and on and on.....

PMSL at the written record!

Dottoressa · 21/03/2009 20:54

What's more, it isn't just button-pressing: did you know that pedestrian crossing boxes also have a little knob thing underneath that you can twirl? DS made this particularly wonderful discovery, and now DD's sole ambition in life is to twizzle the blasted knob thing before DS does. I think I am slowly going mad.

footballsgalore · 21/03/2009 21:01

Stand on your feet?
Is that for transportation purposes or just to see if it hurts?

MmeLindt · 21/03/2009 21:07

Knob twizzling? I must pay more attention to the pedestrian crossings.

DD is not bothered but DS has to press the button first. In lifts as well.

jkklpu · 21/03/2009 21:12

I still like pressing the button myself but have to stifle my urges so that ds1 can do it; just waiting for the day when ds2 is tall enough to fight

footballsgalore · 21/03/2009 21:19

Gonna try the twizzling thing next time i'm in town. At least they get one thing each then.

Hey that could be the whole problem solved

Really? I always wondered how blind people managed on the crossings that don't beep. Maybe i'd better not let my two monsters angels at them then. Wouldn't want to be responsible for breaking one

StercusAccidit · 21/03/2009 21:44

Lol..our company is now fitting the new crossings with sensors..so no more kids pressing the button and walking away..

Cue deluge of complaints that the 'lights arent working' when people move out of the way of the sensor

Can't wait to go back to work..bet i'll be on the phones hehe

MmeLindt · 21/03/2009 21:54

SA
You spoilsport

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 21/03/2009 21:54

Lockets we used to have to lift dd1's buggy up with her in it so that she could reach THE BUTTON. The magical, wonderfull button.

Her obsession has not ended. She is now 5 and if I absently minded press THE BUTTON before she does I either have to wait while the green man is on and let her press THE BUTTON before we cross or ensure a massive tantrum that can last hours.

The only difference between now and 18 months is that her obsession extends to switching on lights and unlocking and opening doors.

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2009 22:07

Sooooooo glad it's not jsut me who's had to lift up the buggy so a child can reach the button!

BTW

PLEASE be careful and check the 'twirly things'
As some morons have took to removing them leaving a hole kids get their fingers trapped in or worse..putting sodding razor blades up the hole..don't want to scaremonger but pls be careful
Can't account for this subspecies that would do such a thing unfortunately.

SlartyBartFast · 21/03/2009 22:58

you actually rpessed the button

wow

Dottoressa · 21/03/2009 22:59

MmeL - OMG, don't mention lift buttons as well, or I may spontaneously combust ...
