Dolls/baby stuff - what age?

Hello. I keep seeing some really good deals on all the little dolll/baby stuff like the dolls moses baskets and prams etc.

It has got me tempted to get it for DD for her first birthday in December. But is she too young? I am pregnant again and she will be about 15-16months when the new baby comes. Just thought it might be good for her to have her own baby? But would it be a waste of money as she is so young?

What does everybody think?

I childmind so wouldn't be a complete waste if she didn't use it I guess and baby should be about 2 weeks old when I start minding again so I guess it would be good for the other children too?

What do you experienced mummies think?

DD1 was not interested in dolls at all. DD2 loved them as soon as she could hold one. An ideal 1st birthday present. Perhaps the My First Baby Annabel - soft bodied and doesnt DO anything.

overbuurvrouw · 04/11/2008 21:12

My DD got a soft bodied doll at 10 months or so and she loves it.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:13

I am thinking of something like this

She's almost one

dizzydixies · 04/11/2008 21:14

am exactly the same as AnneofAvonlea (still loving the name btw )

DD1 never bothered her backside with all her dolls and DD2 has loved them for as long as I can remember and now mimics things I do for DD3 with her doll

agree with my first baby annabel although DD2 loves a £1.50 soft doll from tesco

go for a wee cheap buggy from tesco too as it will no doubt get trashed/forgotten and you can get her a nicer one later on if she still likes her dolls

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:14

Although just realise dolls are not included Seems a lovely set to me though? She loves any toy with a face on and gives her soft toys kisses. She is 10months old at the mo

My DD got a cheap buggy and dolly for her first birthday and has played with it daily ever since. Perhaps when the new baby arrives you could buy her a better dolly that she can dress and feed etc like you'll be doing with the baby. I've got one saved for DD with a crib and some other accessories for when our DC2 arrives in March.

x

That seems a bit too complicated for a one year old, probably great for an older child though.

A simple soft bodied doll and a couple of changes of clothes would be great though.

My dd got this little doll for her first birthday. She adores it!! It goes everywhere with her, even to bed ...very sweet

ScarletA · 04/11/2008 21:22

I LOVED dolls from as young as I could remember but dd has never been particularly interested. I got her a baby Anabel (one that makes a whole range of highly irritating noises) for her 2nd birthday shortly after ds was born. I was always sitting on the doll and then having a terrifying milli-second when I thought I'd sat on the real baby, or hearing it 'crying' after enduring hours of ds colicky shreiking and wanting to rip its head off... In the end dd chucked it down the stairs and it managed to sever one of the leads to the voice box which was a relief all round.

What I am trying to say is that your dd might like it, she might not. However, it is a very good idea to get a dolly when mummy is about to have a baby as then she can mimic the things you do with the new baby (or take out her frustrations etc on inanimate doll, just as healthy in my opinion) but whatever you do, don't get a baby Anabel. Too much like the real thing and believe me, once you've had your baby, you WILL NOT want another crying thing in the house.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:26

Does everybody think this set is too old for her? My mum thinks it would be a waste of money?

I think I just like the set and think it is a good price more than anything! lol

chloe - you can get similar from tesco direct for £20 but I DO think its a bit much - she'll only focus on one thing until she's a bit older

am telling you the way to go is a wee soft bodied doll

Plonker · 04/11/2008 21:31

Hmmm - its does seem great value, but i reckon that the pram would probably be useless for a couple of years as its seems to have a fixed handle height and i very much doubt that a one-year-old would be tall enough to push it properly.

IMHO you're better off with a little dolly and a small pushchair and saving the set for next year.

dizzydixies · 04/11/2008 21:33

something like this

dizzydixies · 04/11/2008 21:34

and this? hth

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:36

The baby annabell looks good, but a bit overpriced for just a soft doll? Might be just me?

lol, no its because its baby annabell - dd2 loves her £1.50 doll from tesco but they don't show those on their website - was just to give you an idea of what I meant

overbuurvrouw · 04/11/2008 21:41

'tis important to find a doll with a nice face IMO.

ramonaquimby · 04/11/2008 21:42

something like that set will take over your house!! don't do it!! a simple doll that does nothing I think would be best.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:42

lol, what do you mean with a nice face?

OP posts:
Plonker · 04/11/2008 21:44

Oooh i agree overbuurvrouw!! there are some scary looking dollys out there

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 21:44

I think we are not going to buy her the set now! VEry true about it taking over the house! Although toys seem to have already done that.

MIL has aparently bought her a HUGE kitchen set for xmas too which although she said it was lovely, I was a bit confused with what she will do with it at 1 year old and also where the hell I am going to put it!
