Dolls/baby stuff - what age?

Hello. I keep seeing some really good deals on all the little dolll/baby stuff like the dolls moses baskets and prams etc.

It has got me tempted to get it for DD for her first birthday in December. But is she too young? I am pregnant again and she will be about 15-16months when the new baby comes. Just thought it might be good for her to have her own baby? But would it be a waste of money as she is so young?

What does everybody think?

I childmind so wouldn't be a complete waste if she didn't use it I guess and baby should be about 2 weeks old when I start minding again so I guess it would be good for the other children too?

What do you experienced mummies think?

our kitchen is out in the shed now

TKMAXX is always fab for dolls, do you have a local one?

oh I think a kitchen is a good thing - you can always have it out for a few weeks/months then put it away and have a break. My girls have def had their money's worth out of the kitchen (currently in playhouse) we bought when our 7 year old was 2

My dd is also totally uninterested in dolls, and mil keeps giving them to her. Also, I'm slightly annoyed that despite my dd being a bit mixed race and ethnic looking the dolls are always blonde. I know mil wishes dd was blonde and when she was a black haired baby kept asking if her hair would get lighter, and when I said the baby I was pregnant with had a chance of being blonde because I have blonde cousins so have a blonde gene somewhere, she couldn't hide her delight. My mother is giving dd a giant oven and mil a giant dolls house for Christmas (she'll be 2 in December) and I'm a bit sick of the gender enforcing, but then I'm probably being a bit Guardian reader about it all, and it's not doing any harm, but I am also wondering where I'm going to put it all in our tiny house. Interesting that a lot of posters have said their second dds were more interested in dolls, maybe that'll happen if I have another girl. I was never interested in dolls either, but have given dd plenty of girly things if she wanted them, she just hasn't.

Yes my MIL still buys loads of girly stuff for her other grandaughter who is 4 and much more interested in spiderman etc but MIL still buys her pretty pink girly stuff that never gets touched!

My DD is 19 mo and really into dolls. There are several "sorts" of dolls, some suitable from 1 year, some 18 mo, some from 2 years but most from 3 years.

Most dolls prams are for 3+ as well except this one which we got DD in a charity shop and she loves.

I think it depends entirely on the child - not the age iyswim. I have two girls and the 6 year old still likes dolls, while the 4 year olf has never been bothered about them at all really...

Just get a cheap one. My dd has zero interest in dolls either and I stupidly bought her Baby Annabel. Now pushing a buggy around is another matter - they all seem to love that!

chloemegjess · 06/11/2008 22:13

DD got a chance to push a "baby buggy" today. She isn't quite walking, so I had to put something in it to make it sturdy enough but she loved it. Wouldn't leave it alone!

Think we are going to ask somebody to get her the my first baby Annabel for Christmas.
