This is probably a stupid question.
But i spent a lot of money on nice shoes for DS1. 3 years on I'm wondering if i his brother can use them now he's just started walking?

Plus thats a huge amount for one teeny pair of shoes! If you really need new, go to Mothercare World with a clarks concession, get feet measured at clarks, then just go to the mothercare part and buy right size

mothercare do clarks cheaper?

Ha ha.Sorry to disappoint. What I meant was, if you're under the same roof anyway, its easier and takes less brawn to sidle off after measuring, and buy mothercare own, esp good if there's a mothercare sale on.
Or go to the clarks outlet in Bicester village. But tis a long trip for the gamble of not having the right size!
I also only just found out that if there's a clarks sale, they can trace a sale pair in the right size from other branches, and transfer it for you to pick up from your branch.

I am of the opinion that the measured size and fit is so, so subjective in every different shop and with evbery different manufacturer - and indeed with every pair you try, of the 'same' size - that the only way to do it is to try them on.

I have kept a lot of ds1's old shoes - the ones he hardly wore - and have also bought some very cheap sale shoes potentially for ds2 when he is bigger. Of course if they don't fit him he shan't wear them but I am all for keeping good shoes, trying them on second child and if they are a good fit (yes I trust myself rather than a 13 yo saturday girl with a headset on) then he can wear them, at least as spares. I seem to have had to buy several pairs for ds1 in a similar size due to weather/occasion/losing one under the sofa. So it is always good to have a few spare pairs hanging around.

The way ds1 wears wellies on the wrong foot without any problem I think it can be a bit of a mountain/molehill scenario.

Basically as long as shoes are well made, fit and seem comfy, I don't see the problem at all in reusing them.

still undecided so didn't go shopping.
will get the shoes out of the loft in the morning and see if there's a pair that'll do. then i'll decide.

Firstly, the mothercare own make shoes are not the same sizes as Clarks. We tried that once and they are a totally different manufacturer that has its own sizes - like Clarks/Startright/Next.

Secondly, my two ds's used to both have F fitting. So first shoes that were say scuffed on the outside but had not been worn much for walking, I handed down.
Two years on ds1 is an E/F and ds2 a G. So no point handing them down. If they were both still F I would hand down ones that had not had much wear. I do hand down trainers, wellies etc or other shoes that don't have a width fitting and which are not knackered.

If your child is really young then pass the shoes down - you will have years of them refusing ANYTHING 2nd hand/handmedown.
