Hi all

I'm starting potty training my 25mth old dd on Sat. Is there anyone else planning on starting soon that I could hold hands with!?!

Not feeling very confident aboout it, pretty sure dd is ready but she can be a stubborn little thing when she wants so not sure how its going to go!!

Hi all,
Day Two in the Big Bladder house, wish me luck!
Yesterday, not so good - went through nine pairs of pants! There was one wee in the potty, but it just kind-of 'appeared', not convinced he was even aware that he'd done it as no announcement was made. Nevertheless, much praised was lavished, sweeties doled out and daddy phoned.
Ten minutes later he was leaving a trail over the carpet! aaaarrrghhhhh!
Worst moment was when he was stood in front of me, wet his pants and laughed. Much self-control from mummy was required there I can tell you. He's also started saying "never mind" when accidents occur.
Maybe a different approach is required for a child of his age (very nearly 3 y/o).
Going to give it till Sunday evening and, if no progress is made, will give it a break till half-term.
The only real issue is that he starts pre-school in January and they have a no-nappy policy (we live at an RAF base in Cyprus so I'm not sure how closely they adhere to Ofsted rules). The big advantage of living over here, though, is that washing dries very quickly.
Anyway, hope you're having an easier time. Good luck!

Thanks for the support everyone.
Am coming to the conclusion that he is simply not ready - he really has no idea that he is about to do a wee or poo - only when he has done it. (and sometimes not even then).
Thought we were making some headway when, after a protracted time of sitting on the potty, we had a couple of results but we've had twice, maybe three times, as many accidents, some immediately after he gets up off the potty.
I very nearly lost my rag when I found him splashing in a newly made wee puddle, announcing what fun it was. He'll sit (and dance) in his own filth without a care in the world.
Frankly I now think he's getting bored with the whole potty business and is starting to play up really badly, throwing it around the room and behaving in ways I know that antagonise me, including proudly showing me places he's soiled. It's getting very, very hard not rising to the bait.
Earlier today the threat of putting a nappy back on was enough to send him back to the potty, but, now, he's asking to have the nappy put on. Any longer than five minutes sitting and he's announcing "I can't do it", or "it won't come".
Thanks for letting me vent. Am running out of options except going back to square one.

hi all

well dd is fit and well again so it was back to potty training yesterday and she has totally forgotten/refusing to use it now!! she was soooo good last weekend then a few days back in pull ups because of this darn stomach bug and shes totally lost it! she keeps creeping off somewhere and pooing, yesterday afternoon she stood RIGHT next to the potty and pooed on the floor!! i was so mad (tried not to show it!!) but its so frustrating!!

aphrodite - the first couple of days we originally started dd didnt get it at all, then on day 3 something clicked and she seemed to understand. may be worth trying for another couple of days. I also found that letting dd run around the house/garden with no pants on helped as i think she was getting confused between pants and nappy

hope everyone else is doing better!!

i am truly fed up with the whole thing, nappies were sooooooooooooo much easier!!

Hello all

back from holiday and back in nappies for the time being.

DD is still telling me in advance a few minutes before a number 2 and occasionally tells me before or during a number 1.

But I simply cannot persuade her to do either of these in the potty. She understand there is a link and will briefly squat over the potty just AFTER she has done her business. She obviously doesn't like being wet as she rips off training pants the moment they are wet and sometimes manages to rip off a nappy if it is wet or soiled.

I'm going to give it a little break and then try her with the baby seat over the loo.

Hi been potty training for 5 days now and the longest 5 days of my life it feels!!! He is 21/2 and soooooo stubborn, we have mastered wee wee on potty and toilet even standing up!!! But only if naked, just pee's through the pants if wearing any. He will not poo anywhere!!! Just tries to hold it in - does a little turd and holds it in his bum cheeks! This happens when naked, in pants and even a nappy. Am I ever going to be able to leave the house for more than 10 minutes ever again I wonder?

LuLuBai · 16/09/2008 20:03

Oooh - poor you. That sounds tricky.

heywoodjo · 17/09/2008 15:53

Progressed a little today- to pooing in our pants!! But it's better out that in I suppose just need him to tell me before not after now and we will be cooking on gas!

He has just this minute flushed the last dry clean pair of pants down the toilet- oh happy days

glad everyone is having as much fun as me
its not going well here, she is definitley a terrible two now!! been tantruming and throwing her weight around all day! refuses to use the potty!! she's still a bit diarhoea-y too which really isnt helping!!

how on earth do you leave the house AND potty train at the same time?? everytime we go to the shops/park/for a walk etc i have to put her in pull ups as when we are out of the house she doesnt even think to tell me and i cant take her to the loo every 20mins! its impossible!! we are going on hols (only to blackpool) in 4 weeks time and I can see her being in pull ups all week or we wont be able to leave the caravan!

sorry for ranting feel better now though!!

heywoodjo - hope u have more luck tomorrow
lulubai - hope u enjoyed your hols though, and good luck for when you start trying again!!

Thanks llynnn - I'm going to start again in October. Got a wedding to go to next week etc etc - too much going on. But we are still talking about poo a lot (a bit embarrasing in Asda yesterday, when she farted and was convinced she had done a poo)

If you are in a caravan on holiday could you let her do the odd wee outside?
