Are reins really considered "chavish"?

Have been looking into buying reins for my 16month old DS and have read that they are often considered "chavish" nowadays.
This - yet another example of - inane snobbery will not sway my opinion either way, but is this the way reins are viewed nowadays?
And if so, WHY???

I don't think they are chav! But then again we have the rucksack style one from John Lewis.

well DS ended up in A&E on Monday because of a pulled elnow - he was walking with DH who had to yank him back by his hand as he was about to dash across a road

we now have new reins

tried them out with DS this afternoon and he loves them - means he can run along (eith me trotting behind him) rather than me holding his hand all the time

I don't think wrist straps are safe at all - DH and I both dislocated our shoulders as children due to having been pulled by the hands

Thanks Hatick, he;s fine . I think it was a ligament thing, anyway the doctor twisted it around and it's been fine since . Dh felt awful but better than DS running out in front of a car...

the new reins are leather and look v 70s lederhosen chic
