Why do I find it such an effort to do things with my kids ??

I do very little with them tbh. Can't remember the last time I played a game with them or anything like that and I think that is probably because it normally ends in an argument of some sort.

I did play with them on the trampoline the other day, but have no particular desire to repeat the experience.

I think the main reason I do so little with them is because when I do do things with them they end up misbehaving and making me feel like I wasted my time, but then perhaps that is because I don't spend enough time doing things with them in the first place.

Anyone know what I mean ??

They seem quite happy to amuse themselves 99.9% of the time tbh, but I feel like I should be doing more.

it si essential fro children to be bored at times

nailpolish · 03/08/2008 17:17

oh MD! how marvellous

Loriycs · 03/08/2008 17:18

might sound crazy but some degree of fighting and argueing is good for them, assertion skills and all that. Within reason of course. My mum always stopped me and my sis argueing and the resentment just festered as we never dealt with anything.

moondog · 03/08/2008 17:19

Driver takes me there, picks me up and home in time for beautiful dinner from housekeeper. Tis like a dream. Will end by end of August however.

IllegallyBrunette · 03/08/2008 17:20

I'd like to take them ice sakting but it a long bus journey and as non of them skate I'd need someone else to go too really.

My mum always sits and does stuff with the girls when she has them to stay. Mind you she never did stuff with us when we were children.

i know what you mean IllegallyBrunette!

moondog · 03/08/2008 17:22

Being with them a lot drains you though. I find it v easy to be hugely energetic in work with kids (am a salt) but at home just want to hide with cup of Earl Grey and Torygraph.

Haven't had a drink in yonks. Dry here. Hunting down a case of beer to put in yer fridge takes best part of a day.

IllegallyBrunette · 03/08/2008 17:27

Could be Cod.

I can't really remember doing anything with my mum or dad tbh. We probably did, but it must have been as rare a thing as rocking horse shit.

I find it really hard to find something that pleases them all though, they are so bloody fussy.

Dont try and please them nutty, try and please you.
I drag my kids places with me and find an element that they will like, an ice cream van, a pound shop, a park that I will take them too ONCE ive been where I wanted to.
The beach, which I like, the arcades that they like.
I cant think of a day where we have went somewhere with just them in mind lol

moondog · 03/08/2008 17:31

Yes much harder when really small.Remember many deperate w/ends with dh away. Often used to put them in the bath, drag in an armchair and read the paper.

IllegallyBrunette · 03/08/2008 17:31

Oh yeah we can Cod, and we have done, although I try and stick to parks/playareas that we can walk to because of the busfare.

We haven't been to Tamworth Castle park yet because tbh I cannot afford the busfare. I enquired and it would of been about £12.

I so wish they'd bring out some sort of summer discount ticket for the buses.

What sort of things would you like to do?

Museum, library, walking in the woods?

charliecat · 03/08/2008 17:33

Might have bogof tickets for tamworth...

IllegallyBrunette · 03/08/2008 17:34

Just looked up the iceskating rink and at least the bus stops right outside which is a bonus.

Might try and get xp to take Ds somewhere and I can take the girls skating. Can just about manage one on each arm I think.
