when i was growing up nearly everyone had two children. It was the way it was. There seems to be an increase in people having more children again like it was in past generations. Only then they often had no choice i know. What do you think is causing this trend. Is it the celeb baby boom making it fashionble?? Some celebs ie jamie spears and charlotte church are talking of having another straight after giving birth????

God help us if people are deciding whether or not to have babies based on what their sleb idols do.

sorry, insider - I genuinely didn't know thanks for putting me right.

Loriycs - The trend in my family is definitely a reverse pyramid - my gran had 13, 11 of whom survived, all of her daughters had kids, one of whom had 9, my mum had 5, 4 survived. Of my mum's 4, we've all either had 1 or 2. Hope that makes sense.

In saying that though, there are a few well off families around here who have just churned out kiddies and have 5 or more, but I don't know of any who have as many as my gran or aunt.

on the twins front, I know that fertility treatment is resulting in more twins being born these days, but at our tiny primary school I had 3 sets of twins in my class alone. Must have been something in the water

In Pakistan government's policy is to convince people having small family as the population is huge as compared to the resourses of country. So the most of educated people are having 2 or 3 children due to this and finantial reasons. But when these people immigrated to the countries like UK where they have less finantial problems, they tend to have more kids. Also those people who are on benifits have four or more kids to get maximum benifit.

I always wanted 3, 4 or more (I have only 1 sib but my mum and dad have several sibs each so it can change per generation). I have 4 (2 being twins-I always wanted twins too!) and am pg with #5. Have also sadly had 2 preemies who we lost at birth. There are alot of people where I live (fairly affluent area) with 3,4,5, kids. 3 and 4 is probably more usual. There are loads of twins (mostly IVF). There does seem to be more larger families now than in 'my day' (kid in the 80s/90s).
