Silly songs to sing to my DD

lucysnowe · 18/07/2008 09:30

Does anyone know any good silly songs I can sing my DD (4 months) besides nursery rhymes? Especially ones that are a bit bumpy (for when she's on my knee)!

Thanks!

3 little monkeys jumping on the bed
one fell off and bumped his head
mummy phoned the doctor and the doctor said
no more monkeys jumping on the bed

Seeline · 18/07/2008 09:40

Horsey, Horsey
Jelly on a plate
This is the way the Ladies ride

are all 'bumpy' songs, but little ones love any sort of action song - you can move their arms for them until they are big enough eg

head, shoulders, knees and toes
if you're happy and you know it
Wind the Bobbin up
Twinkle, twinkle

see if there is a singing group in your area. Singing songs is a great way to get them talking. Happy singing!

Row Row Row your boat (complete with crocodile, polar bear and lion verses). DD could roar like a lion before she said any words

Animal Fair (and what became of the monkey monkey monkey monkey with bounces)

Oh yes, animal fair!

My boys like you are my sunshine too

TillyScoutsmum · 18/07/2008 09:49

Made up ones are always good... I wasn't aware that I was a lyrical genius until I had dd

Mockingbird was always bedtime one

BouncingTurtle · 18/07/2008 09:50

Gee up neddy to the fair,
What shall we buy when we get there?
A Ha'penny apple and a Ha'penny pear,
Gee up neddy to the fair,

My Ds's favourite one is this.

When I was one I sucked my thumb.
The day I went to sea!
I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me
We're going this way, that way, forwards and back and over the Irish Sea,
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and that's the life for me!
When I was two I buckled my shoe...
When I was three I banged my knee...
When I was four I knocked on the door...
When I was five I took a dive...

You'll be knackered at the end of this one

Threadwworm · 18/07/2008 09:58

Here are a couple of rhymes (not songs)my mother passed down to me. Does anyone else know them?

(When putting shoes on

Shoe, shoe the knobby colt
And the grey mare.
IF that colt WON'T be shod
Let him run bare.

and

What's your name?
Mary Jane.
Where do you live?
Down the lane.
What you got?
A little shop.
What do you sell?
LOLLIPOPS!

lilyloo · 18/07/2008 10:03

threadworm i know the bottom one but slightly different
What's your name Mary Jane
Where do you live down the grid
What street pigs feet
What number cucumber

A bumpy one
I went to the barber shop
to get my hair cut off
When i got there
I sat on a chair
And the chair went plop (and you drop lo between your knees) dd 6 mths giggles like mad at this

There's a party on the hill can you come
Bring your own bread and butter and your own cream bun
Can't afford it
(name) will be there with a ribbon in her hair what colour will it be (they say colour)

Another bumpy one
Horsey horsey don't you stop
Just let your feet go clippity clop
Your tail goes swish and your wheels go round
Giddy up your homeward bound

hewlettsdaughter · 18/07/2008 10:06

Threadwworm - I know your second one as:

What's your name?
Mary Jane.
Where do you live?
Down the lane.
What's your number?
Cucumber.
What's your house?
Mickey mouse.

nailpolish · 18/07/2008 10:09

This is the way the ladies ride is fantastic!

and i love My Son John - we all giggle at the end

Threadwworm · 18/07/2008 10:10

Here's a bumpy one. (Bounce DC on lap and open legs at final line so that DC 'falls' through.)

This is the way the lady rides
Trit-trot, trit-trot, trit-trot.
This is the way the gentleman rides
Gall-op, gall-op, gallop.
This is the way the farmer rides
Hobble-dee-hoy, hobble-dee-hoy.
This is the way the old man rides
Hobble-dee-hoy and DOWN into a ditch.

Threadwworm · 18/07/2008 10:11

V. interesting to hear the variations on Mary Jane.

lucysnowe · 18/07/2008 10:12

These are all aces! What are the crocodile and polar bear versions of row row your boat? ? And how does the bobbin one go? Some of these must be quite old I suppose!

fruittea · 18/07/2008 10:13

Row row row your boat - and variations:

Row, row, row the boat
Gently down the stream
If you see a crocodile
Don't forget to scream

Row, row, row the boat
Gently down the river
If you see a polar bear
Don't forget to shiver

Row, row, row the boat
Gently to the shore
If you see a lion
Don't forget to roar

Row, row, row the boat
Gently in the bath
If you see a spider
Don't forget to laugh

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the lake
Don't stand up and rock the boat
That's a big mistake!

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2008 11:59

Row, row, row your boat
Gently through the cave
If you see a troglodyte
Don't forget to wave

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2008 12:00

SEA- love the 3 little monkeys! is there a tune?

lazaroulovesleggings · 18/07/2008 12:02

lazaroulovesleggings · 18/07/2008 12:02

Ooh look, snap peach!

EachPeachPearMum · 18/07/2008 12:12

rofl! why do you love leggings atm, lazarou?

TillyScoutsmum · 18/07/2008 12:13

We do monkeys one (with last line - naughty little monkeys, bouncing on the bed) No tune really

Also do riding my bicycle (on your lap, lean them back and cycle their legs)

Riding my bicycle, up the hill so slow (slow cycling)

I reach the top. I ring the bell (ring ring on their nose)

And down the hill we go- wheeeeee ! (cycle legs fast)

lazaroulovesleggings · 18/07/2008 12:21

I'm wearing some at the moment. I love them, although they are only plain black ones. I may go for a pair of tiger print ones at some point.
I only wear them in the house though.

lucysnowe · 18/07/2008 13:30

My mum has just told me about one she used to sing to me when I was little...

Underneath the water
Enderneath the sea
Catching fishes for my tea
Alive or dead (drop babby between the knees) or Swimming (sway babby from side to side). Apparently I LOVED it.

Seeline · 18/07/2008 16:52
