I have a 2YO DS and regularly walk at least 2 miles a day so I think I still need a pushchair for him but apparently MIL thinks he's bog enough to walk it!!! Am I wrong in thinking he shouldnt walk this far?

Also I'm on my 3rd pushchair since he was born have had Emmaljunga Cerox, which loved but too big for it now, Jane energy(just shite), and now using M&P 03 sport which is 3 months old but very big and heavy! Want to sell all and buy a Baby Jogger Mini city as is tiny, easy to fold and lightweight. Does anyone have experience with one of these?

Am I being pram obsessed or am I justified?

i'm not even going to sy how many buggies i ahve had but lets just say i think three is a pretty normal number especially as you have sold/given away the olde ones so only have one at a time.

i havent; had the city mini but a few girls on the pramaholics board have and say that it is brilliant for an older toddler as huge seat but yet folds tiny and is really light. and a real off road buggy as well as opposed to just a lokky likey. i'm told much better than the m&p 03 sport.

i love my jane slalom for an older toddler but thats pretty preicey unless you cna get a second hand one. i find it light to use too.

my dd was 2 in marcha dn while she does really walk most place i find it handy to ahev the buggy with me so she can jump in and out and also for hanging bags na dputting thigns in the basket.

pointydog · 16/07/2008 12:12

It's only expensive if you choose it to be so.

he's 2 so get one of those cheap collapsible things. Used to be under £20.

Choosing to buy loads of prams and then moaning about the cost is frankly bizarre.

youngbutnotdumb · 16/07/2008 12:19

I wasnt moaning about the cost pointy! I wouldnt like to have him in one of those £20 pushchairs not comfy for him, not comfy for me and a pain in the arse to push over anything other than perfectly laid lino/laminate flooring! LOL

well you are both very fussy

youngbutnotdumb · 16/07/2008 12:25

I like to be fussy

Its hard though but am selling them to make sure they dont just get stuck in a corner and left gathering dust so not so bad!

Have had, in fact still have them :
jane powertrack
Britax something or other pushchair
Nurse dakar puschair
mclaren "i love you" lulu guinness - which is my favourite out of then all and I always revert back to.

Ds is 17mo and hope he'll need pushed about for ages yet. I'm trying to persuade dh to swap the dakar (don't like) for something else.

Am pram obsessed, though not quite enough to merit having another dc yet

OurHamsterisevil · 16/07/2008 21:44

DS1 started walking everywhere at 2.6. DS2 will probably be in a pushchair longer, for the school rune etc. as I would have to leave the house too early to walk at toddler pace.

I only had two pushchairs for DS1, and the same for DS2. I don't understand why people have loads of pushchairs.

PortAndLemon · 16/07/2008 21:50

We had one pram-that-converted-to-a-buggy and DS probably used it ten times in total (DS just didn't take to the whole pram concept). He was in a sling or carrier, then transitioned to walking-a-bit, riding-on-shoulders-a-bit. By the time he was 2.8 or so I had established that I didn't carry him on my shoulders (because he's large and heavy ), but DH still does sometimes. DD has never been in a pram or buggy at all.

Just representing the opposite extreme from pram obsession...

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/07/2008 21:57

dd is 2.5 and hasn't used a pushchair for quite a while (she was an early walker).

We have a Mountain Buggy Urban, and a McClaren Quest which we got when I was having a day out in London, as MB too bulky for that.

DS due in a couple of months, and don't plan to buy any more prams.

LuXander · 16/07/2008 23:07

I had a Maclaren for my son once he was walking, it was less bulky than his origional pram/pushchair. I used it until he was 3+yrs (he's always been big for his age). 10 years on, it's come out of the loft for DD (15months) and still works perfectly.

youngbutnotdumb · 17/07/2008 11:35

Hmm am thinking of going for a maclaren am just a bit worried about pushing it with one hand is this a problem? An dis the seat unit large enough for a big toddler?

desperatehousewifetoo · 17/07/2008 11:53

I am about to give away my m and p travel system buggy as so huge and my ds (3.5yrs) mostly uses her scooter for school runs. She has not used a buggy since before easter.

Having said that, went to legoland yeaterday. Nearly didn't take anything but decided on my mcclaren. Glad I did as she fell asleep. Still plenty of room for her and she is wearing age 5 clothes from gap.

Can be pushed easily with one hand if on flat, even surfaces but my husband who can only use one hand, does find it tiring after a while. Can't remember if wheels can be fixed as that helps one handed sometimes.

We have an old 3 wheeler 'urban detour' which has pneumatic tyres that we use at my parents. That is much easier to push one handed and prob wasn't that expensive as mothercare's own range - though about 8yrs old now!

Has someone got a mcclaren you could borro for a few weeks? We are in west london if that anywhere near to try ours out?

youngbutnotdumb · 17/07/2008 12:02

Thanks Desperate but am away up in the Highlands

I have a M&P 3 wheeler at the mo is great to push one handed but weighs a ton! And is big and bulky is a shame is only 2 months old but is a bit of a pain thats what I get for throwin my money away without researching LOL.

OP posts:
desperatehousewifetoo · 17/07/2008 12:14

Ha ha, you couldn't be much further away really!

The urban detour is quite light. I had a quick look on mothercare website and they still have that range but, of course, may be heavier now.

My husband definitely prefers the non-umbrella buggies to push one handed. It's a shame that there isn't some way of adapting the umbrella buggies with a bar to join the handles together.

ShortandSweet · 17/07/2008 12:32

Didn't read the whole tread. My DD is 2.2 and still is in the buggy. I have a Maclaren, but if you want a small folding one go for the Zia as it lays flat, has a basket and has a wide seat.

anotherdayyetanothernickame · 17/07/2008 16:17

Had two. Ds stopped using them at 20months when I sold them/ gave them away but I only have 1 ds and he isn't really a running off type so it was easy to keep him under control without resorting to shoving him in a pram.

AccidentalMum · 17/07/2008 21:12

DD1 showing NO signs of being able to walk the distances that I like/ need to so is in a pram (Micralite Fastfold, which is the perfect toddler pram IMO, I prefer the Maclaren Volo in some respects but the ML FF latest version has a much more accessible basket, fab brakes and can be be pushed with one hand but still have shopping on the handles) at 34mths which I feel a bit rubbish about TBH. DD2 is in a sling (as DD1 was often, this is my choice for a sometimes walking toddler for sure), what with double prams being the work of the devil and all .

As for the prams I have had...

1> M&P Excel Chassis 3in1
2> Jane Carrera C Matrix system
3> Bebe Confort Trophy
4> M&P Pulse
5> M&P Pliko
6> M&P Aria
7> Phil and Teds Double
8> Maclaren Volo
9> Silver Cross Pop Duo
10> Micralite Fastfold

A Bugaboo Bee sat in the box for a week before going back to the shop because I just couldn't do the Bugaboo thing, but I am craving rear facing agai now as I have to stop so often to hear what DD1 is saying.

youngbutnotdumb · 18/07/2008 13:43

Okay so have narrowed down to justa holiday pushchair. Thinking about getting the Graco citisport. Has anyone on here got one of these and is the bumpoer bar a problem for quite a large 2YO intend to use 4/5 times in the next year is about it. Or was going for the Aria. Any comments? Reccommendations please?

OP posts:
youngbutnotdumb · 18/07/2008 13:45

Dd1 stopped using her pushchair at 3.2 yo (dd2 was born!)

Dd2 stopped using her pushchair at around 2.5 yo - just didn't need it.

Dd3 is only 12 months so still needs hers, although she does walk a lot already.

Pushchairs that i have had include ...

For dd1:
Big mamas and papas 3 in 1 (cant remember name)
Second hand big mamas and papas 3 in 1 which was left at grandmas
Chicco stroller (awful!)
Maclaren daytripper (fab and got it really cheap)

For dd2:
M & P pliko (lovely but only lasted till she was around 14 months - she was verrrrrrrry heavy and was a nightmare to push up kerbs)
Urban detour (LOVED this, gutted i got rid of it)
M & P freestyler (prob my favourite and still in use at grandmas for dd3)
Maclaren techno (another great pram and still in use at nan's house)

For dd3:
Silver cross freeway (gorgeous pram - my main pram at home)
Second hand urban detour (for dog-walking, don't want to ruin the SC )

See, i'm actually getting better and not buying as many now

wearymum200 · 18/07/2008 13:59

maclaren triumph. My 2.5 ds walks most of the time, but pushchair useful in shops etc. Fairly cheap, umbrella fold, but reclining which may be useful if you have a pushchair napper. Seat is big (have seen 4+ yr olds in them, arrghh). Easily pushed with 1 hand when holding ds.

bluenosesaint · 18/07/2008 13:59

although there is still time ...

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 18/07/2008 14:00

I had a M&P P3 Pramette, but DD hasn't used a pushchair for over a year now, she'll be three in October.
She screams at the very notion of going in the pushchair.
DH or I will carry her if necessary. We go for walks on the weekend for a couple of miles, if she gets tired, she'll go on DH's shoulders.
We did buy a cheap buggy to take with us on hols last year (Cornwall) but tbh we used it to carry buckets, spades, towels etc and DD was happy walking with whoever would hold her hand!

sophiebbb · 18/07/2008 14:05

I had a Bugaboo Gecko when DS1 (now 19 mths was born) and really liked it. When DD2 (now 2 mths) came along I sold it (for a good resale price) and got the following:

  1. Phil and Teds Sport - essential for pushing both of them around. It is OK but not as well made as the Bugaboos (eg the harness for the 19mth old not great - very fiddly to do up - 4 catches not 2 (not great when he is wriggling) and he can get out of it)
  1. Bugaboo Bee - suitable for both a newborn (goes flat) and a toddler (separately of course) - so when just taking one or the other out we use this. It is WONDERFUL - really lightweight, goes down in one step, easy to manouevre and very well made.

IMO - the Bugaboos are expensive but are worth the money. I know a few people who didn't buy one first time and have ended up getting one in the end anyway and wasting money in the meantime.

I would get a Bee if I were you.
