Metanium is good for severe rashes.

Sometimes it helps to clean the bottom with cotton wool and babylotion and leave to air as much as you can.

Olive oil used to work a treat for mine..

there has been a thread on this a couple of days ago and lots of mums including me think weleda nappy change cream is the absolute best - all organic ingredients and really does work plus lots of fresh air on bot when possible

Apparently Bepanthen is on offer atm in Asda - 99p. Normally about £3.

Bepanthen just rox. Off to ASDA tomorrow to stock up. I got a sample in my hospital pack.

You can find Weleda at local, independent health food shops and herbalists. Our local Holland & Barretts doesn't carry it, but a herbalist does.

Metanium is fab. Wouldn't be without a tube.

In times of really bad rash, I used to use Cammilisan( kammilosan) not sure of spelling but it used to do the trick. Used to help with cracked nipples too. ooh too much info.

colditzmum · 02/02/2005 10:29

If you go to the doc's, they might give you some Timodene, which will treat thrush as well as nappy rash. It's very effective, but it smells foul!

dramaqueen72 · 02/02/2005 10:32

yeah, nothing works on dd like weleda. tried the lot, went back to this. absolutely instant 'fix' for sore bottoms, as well as great prevention.
i get mine online from beamingbaby.com

PuffTheMagicDragon · 02/02/2005 10:34

I've mentioned this on another thread, but a friend of mine swears by the "earth friendly baby" nappy cream. Apparently, neither of her children have ever had nappy rash. She used to get it from Sainsbury's and its also available in good health food stores.

I use drapolene and then metanium for real nappy rash, so if these aren't helping, I'd suggest the above.

A couple of times ds2 has had a very sore bottom and I stopped using wipes and switched to warm water and cotton wool. Once the problem had cleared, I was able to switch back. I think sometimes their bottoms can become sensitised to the alcohol in the wipes. I also bathed him twice a day ( a pain I know - usually he's only bathed every other day) to give his bum a good soak.

Whilst in hospital one time dd had a very bad case of nappy rash I was advised to mix the metanium with the sudocrem - made it much easier to wipe off and cleared it up in no time.

I also use reusable wipes - made my own and used them with a mixture of water, some sort of oil - olive, grapeseed, almond and a squirt of baby wash - perfect.

fredly · 08/02/2005 16:45

dramaqueen72, do you mean the lotion or the oil ?

MrsBigD · 08/02/2005 16:51

dd was terrible with nappy rash and reacted rrally bad to sudacream. was recommended by a friend to get my hands on Desitin cream and it's a miracle!

I usually get it from back home Germany, but know it's available in the US so assuming it should be available in the UK

Levanna · 08/02/2005 23:11

There's one called morhulin, it's really greasy but works wonders for DD2 if she is going through a sore bum stage.

yoyo · 08/02/2005 23:41

The Weleda one (open tube and rash , as if by magic, seems to disappear); also the Active Birth Centre's gel.

hnnappies · 17/02/2005 17:26

I have found Aloe Vera Gelly , or Aloe Vera Popolis cream very useful
The aloe vera has natural anti batcerical and anti fungicidal properties along with being a great healer for burns, cuts bruses etc. When added with the bee popolis (which is the bit from the centre of the bee hive -it makes up the hive- and keep it sterile) it becomes even more effective and also in my opinion a smoother gentler cream to use.
I hope that helps and you get your DD bottom sorted soon
