i didnt use them myself (didnt know they existed when my babies were little!) but SIL asked me if i thought they were a good idea and i said absolutely so i have offered to buy them for her as a new baby gift

please could you advise me on what sizes to buy and how many etc and what brand is good

and should i wait til baby is born and then rush out? ie wait to see weight of baby ?

This is a great site and they give you an intro to cloth nappies. They also have nappy experts you can call and talk to.

everyone has their own preferences with washables. unless she has a make in mind, maybe buy her a couple of different trial packs that have got a nappy, wrap and liner in each?

What a fantastic idea !

Although it sounds complicated (it isn't when you get your head around it) it really is best that your SIL decides what she wants as there are so many to choose from.

Get her onto MN and we'll sort her out

i used motherease and loved them but i know pruners didn't. on a vast poll conducting at a knitting group we decided girls get on with motherease and boys don't. probably worth waiting until baby arrives.

also whatever you do end up buying get 10 or so terry squares as they are good for emergencies and dry really fast.

nailpolish · 23/06/2008 10:47

i like the idea of trial packs

will get some together plus your eco nappies prune thanks

my sister went to a 'nappacino' run by the council and got a trial pack for £12.

don't even think about bambino mio. and don't buy antyhing with 'snuggle' or 'bum' in the name purely cos i find it offensively cutsie.

katw3kitts · 23/06/2008 10:53

She'll be fine Nailpolish ... with your help !

You've even got the lingo right already ..dropping the name bamboozles in your post

They are a type of nappy btw bamboozles .. v good imo with motherease ( even with a boy !)

BlueDragonfly · 23/06/2008 10:55

oh yes forget about reusuables for the first few weeks, especially if its her first baby!

easiest would probably be shaped nappies with velcro type fastening i would imagine. they are more like disposables.

does she want to use them all the time? or mix them with disposables (like i do!)? that will make a difference because of drying times

nailpolish · 23/06/2008 10:57

i dont think she knows yet, she is still in shock being pg the poor thing
i am just trying to get some info then will give her the choice

You MUST buy her at least one swaddlebees organic newborn- they are the holy grail of newborn nappies but most people have to dismiss them because of cost!

katz · 23/06/2008 11:15

i have to say i loved my slinki minki nappies, so cute and colourful and once stuffed they were as easy as disposables to use.

JoyS · 23/06/2008 11:31

Why not get some muslins or terries and tiny wraps for the first few weeks (not too expensive so if she doesn't use them won't feel guilty) and some bumgenius or other pockets for when the little one is a bit bigger? Pockets are so easy, they're a good way to get started. One-size pockets generally work from 10-30 lbs so are a good investment.

The best website I've found is www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk they have EVERYTHING, although that too can be a bit confusing to start with...... My favourites are motherease onesize - basic, but brilliant.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 23/06/2008 23:02

contact flamesparrow, she is a seller (or was) and is great for advice. I loved my bamboozles, and the nappylady is fab
