All she does is cry..

Hello

I have a 15 week old and she cries about 75% of the time she is awake. She has almost completely stopped napping during the day (she would nap for 6 hours+ total before) and won't sleep in her carrier or pram. Even standing and sshing and rocking her doesn't work anymore. IF she naps, she fights it for an hour beforehand, making herself overtired, naps for 30 minutes and she wakes up crying. She doesn't show any signs of illness.

Is this normal? Did it happen to you? What helped? When will it end? My husband and I don't have any help nearby and we're losing our minds.

Reflux? Take her to see the gp and ask about reflux. Talk to your health visitor. I am sorry, it is exhausting.

She's on comfort formula for tummy issues/gas so I don't know if that's it 😭

You need to take her back to whoever is advising you about feeding. She needs to be reviewed.

Poor thing! Sounds a lot like silent reflux- I would see the GP and ask about meds. Also, reflux often goes along with CMPA and you mention tummy issues so I’d discuss that with the GP too.

MigGirl · 10/03/2026 18:08

You haven't mentioned night sleeping, how is she at night?

The GP said it was normal and put her on Gaviscon. That made her constipated so she's on the comfort formula now. I'll send them a message and ask for a review, thanks!

She sleeps really well at night, 7-7 with one wake-up for a change and a feed

I feel for you OP. My son was like this when he was a few weeks old. Turned out to be colic. He would cry and cry and cry, until he finally would go to sleep. I used to hold him and stand on my bed, gently bouncing him and eventually, it worked almost every time.

How long does she cry for at a time? From google: "Baby colic is defined as intense, inconsolable crying in an otherwise healthy infant, lasting more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, for over 3 weeks.".

It really is horrible to go through and the crying does get to be a lot, I really feel for you. Try and get your health visitor to check her over and ask about colic and silent reflux, everything suggested here, it could be anything and a professional will give the best advice. Good luck 💐

Awishcometrue · 10/03/2026 18:15

I would try using infacol, is she worse after feeding? If so I would keep her upright for a while after a feed
Also 'bicycle legs' might help if it is tummy discomfort, lay her flat and gently move her legs in bicycle motion raising slightly ,one of my girls suffered terribly with digestion She did eventually get diagnosed with CMPA

chateauneufdupapa · 10/03/2026 18:19

Some GPs are terrible for these things — uninformed. It could still be CMPA even if she’s okay at night, she’s probably exhausted herself from all the crying.

She has Infacol and while that does help bring up gas it doesn't help with the crying. I'll ask about CMPA, thanks

Oh she definitely cries for more than 3 hours a day, today she's cried all day. She did definitely have colic but it seems to be getting worse rather than better, and I thought it was meant to get better after 3 months?

I was thinking sleep regression but could it be more than that?

Yeah it could just be the colic worsening. My son didn't get rid of it until he was almost 6 months old, it was honestly a nightmare. He was otherwise so happy and content, but most of the time just crying to no end. Anti colic drops helped a bit, have you tried those? I would just consult your health visitor for a review in this case. I hope she gets better, poor thing, and poor you trying your best to cope with it.

Look up cranial osteopathy. My friend's daughter has this crying problem and after the first session there was a marked improvement. I'm NOT a medical expert - but I think sometimes the skull bones are too close together which causes pain and incessant crying. They need some gentle massage to pull them apart slightly to allow them to grow properly.

ArtfulDoddger · 10/03/2026 18:33

My daughter was like this up until GP introduced weaning from bottle at 17 weeks, it was like a switch flipped and she settled from then on. She was also CMPA and took nutramigen milk prescribed by GP.

Interesting suggestion, I'll look it up
Thanks!

100% this. Don't let them fob you off.

Also request Omeprazole (the liquid, not the tablets) for silent reflux. Lactulose works wonders for constipation and is really gentle on the stomach.

Have you checked for teeth? My eldest cut theirs at exactly 3 months - I thought they were a demon child before I saw the nubs.

How was the birth? I ask because assisted births can cause head / neck tension. Cranial osteopathy / physio can help.

Definitely ask for a feeding review too. It sounds like lots of dietary changes for a delicate tummy, did the doctor give guidance on how long to keep the comfort formula or infacol up?

canuckup · 10/03/2026 19:23

Teething?

Sorry, clutching at straws for you

cannynotsay · 10/03/2026 19:24

Remember colic is a symptom

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/03/2026 19:27

Lactose intolerance?

I can't see any nubs but I'll keep checking. I've just got her down for the night, what a relief!

Her birth was very fast and I had an episiotomy. She had some torticollis but that seems to have been relieved now, though she still sleeps with her head to one side.

The GP didn't give me any guidance on infacol, she did say I could keep using it. Said I could try comfort milk if I wanted..but said it's all normal. I'm going to ask for a referral to a pediatrician.

Maybe, or CMPA? Gahh it's so hard to know and I just know it'll take months for a diagnosis 😭
