ADHD diagnosis

I really need to get my child diagnosed with ADHD but as I don’t have a second setting I am unable to get them diagnosed, does anyone know what I can do in this situation or has anyone ever been in this situation? They are not currently at school so don’t have them to ask and there is no where else I can ask. How do adults get diagnosed if you need two settings? Can anyone help thanks.

I hope you get sorted OP. I don't think this is best practice but for my dd, she and I filled out the forms, not the school. She was in secondary school so only seeing teachers for 1-3 hours a week. And masking highly.

In the assessment then, we went through the primary school reports. The signs were all there. And dd was 15 so well able to talk about her experiences and challenges.

The medication has been life changing for her education and quality of life. If there's a bad crash...maybe those meds or dose don't suit. It takes time to get it right.

I have heard medication is less effective for AuDHD though.

Your dd is lucky to have a mum doing her best for her, it's not easy. I hope she gets the help she needs.

Okay, so her old school despite being a ways ago might still be willing to fill in the form. Have you tried contacting them EVEN if she’s no longer a student, they would still have files.
If you want more info specifically on autism and adhd the abbreviation is Audhd again the SN board will have posters familiar with this and the potential benefit of medication.

as frustrating as it is, your best bet is to keep asking. get the name of the person who will provide this, and email them with a date; even if not totally relevant I’d choose the tribunal date. you will need to follow up.
on another front have you considered birth control pills to moderate her hormonal cycle. teen hormones wreak havoc on neurodiversity.

PinkBlueCat · 08/02/2026 20:09

I don’t want to keep asking her old school she’s hasn’t been there in 4 years it’s also an hour long form so I feel like it’s a big ask. I will try the SALT.

We have around £3k left after mortgage, bills and nursery fees, feels comfortable though we don’t seem to save much, mainly because we do lots on holidays.

BreakingBroken · 08/02/2026 21:34

@CaffeinatedMum wrong thread?

CaffeinatedMum · 10/02/2026 21:25

@BreakingBroken I’m so sorry I have no idea how I did that, especially as the comment did post on the thread I meant it to as well.
