Daughter is requesting a slime making party for her 5th birthday and is inviting 4 friends. Has anyone ever had one of these!? I’m not sure what to do or and don’t know how to make slime myself… Any tips or ideas appreciated.

Is there a local company that does slime parties? My children went to one in a hall that was organised by a company and there was a woman running the show, telling them what to put on etc. So much easier for the parent who just needed to send invitations and make party bags!!

I know there is a fairly easy 3 ingredient slime you can make with glue, baking soda/bicarb and contact lens solution. Haven’t tried it myself but there are loads of recipes online including a bbc one which has suggestions of different themes. The kids will probably enjoy choosing their own colour and glitter so I’d have plenty of gel food colouring and glitter available too!

The local craft cafe offers this. Theres absolutely zero way I’d be offering to do this in my house - slime in your carpet or your sofa is basically impossible to remove

DD went to an organised one in a church hall with an arty company doing the slime making. I wouldn’t DIY in my house, imagine the mess!!

Thank, if we do it, they would 100% be confined to the dining room which has hard floors and no soft furnishings Confused

You can find this type of stuff on Amazon if saving money is a consideration but it will take a while to filter

Keroppi · 11/09/2025 13:35

Insane to do this at home or at a hall. You'll be scrubbing the floorboards stressed after

Look on FB etc for local craft cafes that offer a Slime making workshop or private hire.

ComfortFoodCafe · 11/09/2025 13:36

Rip to your soft furnishings. No way will 5 5 year olds keep slime to just one room.

Keroppi · 11/09/2025 13:38

If you really must, buy big concrete mixing trays from Wickes (tuff trays), Elmer glue do Slime making kits with activator etc
Otherwise I would just buy ready made Slime in different t colours and they can mix it themselves on the tray
Little plastic pots to take home if they want. Or jam jar type things from poundland/hobbycraft
Buy some random glitter or beads etc to put in, this'll be the bit they want to do the most really
If it is a dry day do it outside and get them to wash hands at outside tap

Actually I have seen on Facebook potion making kits, have a look for similar ideas

fwinklefryfry · 11/09/2025 13:40

Ok the mess was not something I was thinking of to be honest… but now I am 😅😅 I still think I’d try it though. They will literally only have access to the dining room, kitchen, garden, bathroom- so not too worried about sofa etc to be honest.

I'd say nooooooooo way, not a chance 😂

I did this for DD age 9. it was a harry potter party and the potions class included slime-making. But it it quite a short activity so you need other things to keep them busy too.

I gave each child a jar to take their slime home and they were not allowed to take it out of the jar until they got home.

Toomuchfruitandnut · 11/09/2025 13:58

Look up the company Gootopia, they do parties and workshops in loads of different areas so they may have one near you. I took my son to one of their slime making workshops & he absolutely loved it. If not you could just search 'slime parties near me', they're quite popular so there should be a company in your area that do them

ForestFiends · 11/09/2025 14:01

Slime making won’t take that long. Definitely test the recipe first and maybe make up some spares if it all goes wrong. It’s worth considering that although your five year old will follow rules about which areas of the house they aren’t allowed in, other five year olds definitely will not.

lrjh · 11/09/2025 15:54

I’m a slime parent, we do it, I do it at playgroup, I would not do it for a party.

it’s so difficult to get right, once on floor it is lethal.

if you buy it that sort of take the fun away.

there are potion kits on Amazon. They are good. Lots of recipes for them to follow, then the little bottles to put them in. Messy but containable.

Zimpli kids do packets for slime where you add water, but again it can all go wrong very quickly.

other factor is getting rid of the stuff. It will block a sink.

the ready made ones are more like stretchy play dough.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/09/2025 15:57

Check for allergies of the kids you’re inviting. One of mine is very very allergic to one of the ingredients in slime.

Waitingfordoggo · 11/09/2025 16:28

Sounds like my worst nightmare. It would be a ‘no’ from me 😬

ramonaquimby · 11/09/2025 16:48

I make slime pretty regularly with my SEND early teen students. It doesn't have to be messy. I def wouldn't outsource/hire someone to come to the house. Surely if you tell the kids to stay in the kitchen or wherever, they would listen?!

Rumplestiltz · 11/09/2025 16:51

I did a ninth birthday party for this. It’s really quite simple to make, not that messy, the time goes quickly (anyone else find time usually stands still at children’s parties or just me 😂) They can add their own colouring, glitter and smells. We did 3 rounds - I think with a theme for each one - and then they put them in pots and took them home.

Yeah I mean I don’t think they’ll have a choice… I will be enforcing it lol

Vinegar dissolves it.
