Any nursery that takes funded children is not allowed to refuse a child's place based on continence needs. They cannot refuse a child with SEN either provided they can keep them, and other children attending safe.

Honeyandwine · 10/09/2025 22:27

How much have you tried with the potty training? It really will depend on what type of nursery you send your child to. If it is attached to a school then they tend to be less willing to change nappies. When you say your toddler can’t train- how do you mean? Have you taken the nappy off and let them run round naked- sitting them on the potty frequently? Reward charts work incredibly well as do mini potty toilets with their own little flusher. Bing Bunny does a lovely toilet train book and a special episode on CBeebies which can help too.

The one near me is funded should I report this or would that be too far of a action to take? @littlemisspickles

As other posters have said- nurseries are not generally allowed to refuse. I’m a primary teacher and have children in nappies sometimes. It is preferable to have them dry because depending on the nursery type they may not be equipped. For example a pop up preschool who only takes three year olds won’t necessarily have the staff or area to properly nappy change, a school nursery will be similar. A private day nursery on the other hand will be fully equipped due to the younger ages. Have you started a formal process to get a diagnosis? Is she non-verbal?

Newishmom · 10/09/2025 22:39

Yes I have started her on the waitlist for a diagnosis I done that right around a year ago and she is semi verbal mostly time she won't talk but if her stress levels get too high she becomes totally non-verbal
