IKEA Antilop or Stokke Tripp Trapp?

Looking to start weaning with DD nearly 6 months. Can anyone recommend a good highchair? I’m undecided between the Ikea and the Tripp Trapp. I like that the Antilop looks easy to clean but I’ve got a small dining space and not sure if I’d be better with the Tripp Trapp that could hopefully be tucked under the table?

Any other good recommendations?

We loved the IKEA one. We had a tripp trapp second hand for £10 off a local selling site. I ended up giving it away because the dc fell off it constantly (once they were well out of high chair mode) and several quite nasty falls and then refused to sit on it because it was a 'baby chair' so the whole 'it'll last you their whole lives' stuff wasnt at all relevant.

Omg Ikea tray is easy to take off.

Don't know why people keep on hitting the legs.

You will want a tray that's removable. Just get the Ikea one

The tray is great. It works with the bibado bibs, I also use a catchy which saves about 70% of the food from the floor and is easier to clean.
nothing sticks well to the tray but I don’t find suction bowls work on my table either, it took dd about 3 seconds at 6m to figure out how to break the seal.
I never pull her up to the table because then she is grabbing at everything, smearing food and banging on the dining table and it’s harder to clean, the tray just comes off and I can scrape into the bin and put it in the dishwasher.

I used the harness at first but found it useless so took it off. It feels like it would be in the way if I needed to get her out quickly too eg choking. And the tray seems to make it much harder to climb out too.

Oh yes I forgot about the bibs. I love them

Can I ask, why would you need or want a tray with the TT?

So DD could sit in the kitchen with me and eat/play while I did the washing up or cooked

Easier to clean when weaning, and wraps around the side of the chair a bit so less food on the floor

Saves your table from dents if you end up with a one year old that like to bash their cutlery (not naming any names, DD2....)

We have tripp trapps and do use the tray for the little one as we did baby led weaning and didn't want food smeared all over our table. Also we had those massive bibado bibs that go over the tray, which don't work so well at the table. It's true that the Stokke one is shit with suction bowls though.

We weren't bothering to do the harness up with DS2 until the day he stood up and tried to plunge head first onto the floor.

DS1 still happily uses his tripp trapp and he is 4.

I had a look at the bibado bibs in JL yesterday, do they work well for the TT? All of the examples I’ve seen they’ve been over an Antilop? X

Yes, they're fine - probably better on the TT actually as I think it's a slightly bigger tray.

Ikea do high children's dining chairs (Ingolf and Agam). Did anyone have those instead of a TrippTrapp type thing and how were they accepted? I should get a Stokke loyalty card, we already have a Yoyo and a Sleepi, but at the moment we're team Antilop

SupposesRoses · 11/08/2025 18:41

Obviously you have already bought the tripp trapp, and you will get years of use out of it (just sold our two as both kids are nearly 8 and fine in a normal chair). However, the Antilop does go in the dishwasher and is great for the first few months, so if you see one secondhand, I’d get that too.

BaronessBomburst · 11/08/2025 18:53

I had both. In fact DS (15!) still uses the TT, as does DH sometimes.
The Antiloop is useful in the garden and to chuck in the boot when visiting relatives.
I recommend the harness, for safety's sake. Better to be safe than sorry.

We used the IKEA antilop without the tray on to keep baby closer to the table so they were joining in with mealtimes more. There's also an Asda one (or there was, 7 years ago!) yeh at is very similar but has a footrest and was I think £3 cheaper than the IKEA one so even better

Trip trap is brilliant because it grows with them. My daughter was using hers until she was about 8.
