Would your 2yr old attend a 1pm party?

Is this a strange time for a birthday party to be attended by mostly 1 & 2 yr olds? Are most kids napping at this time?

Personally, yes. Nap times are usually between 12-2/3 at that age. I would have thought so the morning instead. It's hard to plan around naps though!

sellotapechicken · 07/08/2025 12:32

If you don’t want to go just decline

ThejoyofNC · 07/08/2025 12:34

We would go but I don't allow naps to run our life. I appreciate some parents don't have this luxury and their schedule is non-negotiable but for us we have always allowed flexibility.

Mine are all older but i would have taken them to a party at that time at that age. My youngest would often have a sleep after lunch if we went in the car up until about 18 months or so but i don't think any of my others were napping in the day after about 12 months.

Balloonhearts · 07/08/2025 12:36

We'd go. I have 4 kids, if I let our schedule be dictated by nap times, nothing would ever get done. We'd just have an early nap.

notacooldad · 07/08/2025 12:36

Absolutely!
Just because you've a toddler, life goes on.

SeaToSki · 07/08/2025 12:36

I would not have taken mine, they all had lunch and then a nap for 2.5 hrs and there was no way I was messing with that little bit of peace in my day

Ellie1015 · 07/08/2025 12:37

Would be fine for me when mine were young.

IcyMint · 07/08/2025 12:37

Mine weren’t napping at 2 so this wouldn’t have been a problem.

TheNightingalesStarling · 07/08/2025 12:38

Honestly, with kids that age, any time could be someone's nap time. Some of the younger ones could still w on 2 naps, some of the older ones on no naps.

daysfilledwithdappledlight · 07/08/2025 12:40

I wouldn’t of likely attended late, tried to do the nap a little earlier and woken them up after enough time I knew they’d be able to cope with the rest of the day.
Mine also slept 12-2, and while would have been happy to be flexible, she’d of been a total overtired unhappy state so wasn’t worth skipping the nap or trying and failing to move it. It’s not always about parental flexibility, it’s about what mood and the behaviour of the child will be like if they’re awake at a time they normally sleep! Some cope fine, others don’t!

Jumungo · 07/08/2025 12:40

Mine never had a fixed schedule for naps. I would go and play it by ear but that's generally what I did for everything.

Spies · 07/08/2025 12:41

Mine weren’t napping at 2 so this wouldn’t have been a problem.

Likewise.

However, there's never going to be a universally agreed best time to host so just go with what works best for you.

I dont see it as weird and why would missing a nap be an issue anyway?

BauhausOfEliott · 07/08/2025 12:53

None of the parents I know in real life are as hung up on 'nap times' as Mumsnet seems to be.

tinyspiny · 07/08/2025 12:55

We would have gone but we didn’t have a routine of nap times , both of mine just slept in the car when we were going from A to B

Allswellthatendswelll · 07/08/2025 12:57

Mine always had the main nap around 11 but we weren't really ruled by routine. Often just went we were in the car.

BlondieMuver · 07/08/2025 13:04

Not everyone follows the same routine... Confused

lilaclemon · 07/08/2025 13:08

Fun first always. An occasional nap out of routine isn't going to cause issues.

pinksavannah · 07/08/2025 13:08

I would be a no from me, same with family events / meet ups

Our 2yo won't nap in the pram either so we're bound to a cot

We had his birthday at 3 to avoid nap time and have guests/ family leave by 5

Mushroo · 07/08/2025 13:12

Yes I’d attend. I’d just do a car nap from about 12 and she can arrive refreshed!

Caspianberg · 07/08/2025 13:12

Fine here. By 2 years Ds stopped napping daily anyway.

If he seemed really tired for some reason I would have just left early for a car nap on route.

42wallabywaysydney · 07/08/2025 13:13

Mine napped at that time but I would
have skipped the nap or had them nap later if we were invited to a party at that
time, wouldn’t bother me and I definitely wouldn’t decline because it was ‘nap time’ but we also never lived our lives around naps, just stuck to a routine when possible.

This with knobs on. It's not about adhering to a schedule just because, ime / in my house, it's because they are an overtired mess if they need a sleep and don't get it.
