Why on earth would that be so??? Of course I would!

LeaAndDer · 22/07/2025 09:49

🤣🤣 of course - they’re not anymore dirty than any library book! Or door handle in a public toilet etc

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 22/07/2025 09:50

They’d be no dirtier than any other library book, surely.

Eh?! Just because they’re about potty training doesn’t mean they get wee’d on. Or at least, that’s definitely not what happened in our house!

schroeder · 22/07/2025 09:50

Your child will gain so much more from going to the library and interacting with books than any imagined harm from germy books.

BarnacleBeasley · 22/07/2025 10:00

WTF, they don't have to actually read them on the toilet.

Though actually my child did read on the toilet but not books about potty training, and not library books!

Superscientist · 22/07/2025 10:46

Yes I did never gave it a second thought. I used them to plan potty training not to use whilst potty training!
I'd question how your friend uses books!

Really? You honestly think they’re wee’d poo’d on?

No, I don’t. Hence “no dirtier”.

johnd2 · 22/07/2025 10:57

To Be honest children sections of libraries are filthy places full of germs from coughing on and licking everything, but as are children's playgrounds, nurseries, soft play etc etc.
That's why kids are constantly ill!
Most children's immune systems can handle it after a fashion.

I don’t think potty training books are used for children to wee on. I think they’d be less dirty than children’s books, because these will only read by adults.

I think my friend thought they are being read to children whilst they are sitting on the potty. I am actually a bit of a germaphobe but I really didnt think it would be the case with the potty training books and just trying not to spend unnecessarily

Oh no, I meant potty training books for children (not the adult manual on how to do it) but rather something like Peppa/ George Pig learn to use potty, Bing is using potty, No more nappies etc

My SIL won’t read any library book because she thinks thy all have germs. If you saw her house you’d be bemused by her logic. It maybe not, as she probably thinks others live like her.

Hahaha! Well I used to be like that but I also know that there are germs anywhere and there is no way I can stop my child likcing a shopping trolley so I have learnt not to obsess.

I love library and getting library books. It is so much fun.

I think you'd be doing potty training somewhat incorrectly if the book itself is used to wipe the child's bum or as an actual toilet?!

I just don't understand how it could get dirty?!

Well, to be fair, if the child is sitting on the potty and reading the book at the same time, there might be some splatter or they might be touching it with their mucky hands. Or if it's hanging around in the bathroom next to the toilet or something.

When we potty trained we did have to have special toilet books for a while that lived in the bathroom for us to read to DS while he was sitting having a poo. But they certainly weren't library books. I'm not sure The Giant Jam Sandwich will ever be the same again for me.

BertieBotts · 22/07/2025 11:25

Reading a book to your child while on the potty doesn't make germs magically jump up and land on the book.

In any case it's not an instruction manual. That wouldn't work very well. We read them at bedtime, playtime etc as a way to introduce the idea.

Haha, thank you!
Gawd maybe I'm wrong then. They should make them like rubber then, wipe clean kind of thing?!

But I guess any book read by or to a child who is potty training could meet the same fate. Even if the book was nothing to do with toilets, or pooing?
