Did you keep baby clothes for future DC’s?

Currently sorting through DS clothes as he is moving up to 3-6 months and undecided whether to keep his smaller clothes for future DC as we hope to have another in the near future(would be a two-ish year age gap if everything works out). Initially i was planning to keep neutral sleepsuits, and the boutique/spanish style outfits and pop the rest on vinted. After sorting through everything we are still left with a huge storage box full and that’s only up to 0-3m🙈We do have a spare bedroom at the moment so storage isn’t an issue but i’m not sure whether to be more ruthless and declutter for the moment? What did everyone else do with their first DC’s baby clothes?

Yes I kept them. It's so sweet seeing them in your older childs clothes. Depends on season if you can reuse them all but nice to get a second use of you can.

Dontwanttobeanebsnamum · 08/07/2025 11:12

Yes but we have loft space. I use rubble bags.

My LB is turning 1 this month & I'm 5 months pregnant. I kept all his stuff & have been through it for this baby. It's hardly been put away before it's back out!

Yes I kept the neutral and any items I particularly liked. I limited myself to one box per age group. Its all stored in the loft and we have the space so isn't an issue. I also kept alot of toys and other items.

I still do it now but do keep less as another is still potentially on the card. But not a certainty. I've keep the big ticket items and a smaller selection of clothes. (1 box per year now)

skkyelark · 08/07/2025 11:13

I kept them, but we didn't have a huge amount in the tiny sizes. If you've got more than you'd likely use, I'd keep a reasonable number of basics plus any favourites, but cut down.

wizzywig · 08/07/2025 11:13

Yes. It's a nice smug feeling when you know you've saved some money. P.s, your heart will burst when you go through those old clothes and give them a sniff.

Berryrasp · 08/07/2025 11:14

I kept mine.

MeringueOutang · 08/07/2025 11:14

I kept the nice ones that weren't stained or shrunk in the wash. Those early ones really shrunk badly in our house and both kids outgrew them quickly. I had a DD for my second child, though, so after about age 2-3 I haven't found myself getting the clothes out for her because her style is starting to shine through and it's nothing like DS's.

Alongthetowpath · 08/07/2025 11:19

Yes, I kept it in the loft and even through a house move.
Most got used again, though actually not the newborn stuff because dc2 was a bigger baby.
I kept things like cot, pram etc too - but not the high chair, that was huge and I couldn’t wait to be rid of it.

As Dc2 outgrew stuff, I passed it on to friends or sold it.

It wasn’t that much bother to store it - baby clothes are pretty small after all - and it saved quite a bit of money.

Lindy2 · 08/07/2025 11:19

Yes I kept it all reused most of it (2 girls).

I put some stuff in archive boxes and some in black bags and it all went in the loft.

Make sure you label what size clothes you've got in each bag/box. That really does make locating the right stuff a lot easier.

Squishymallows · 08/07/2025 11:57

Yes definitely! And I had a bigger age gap of 3 years.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 08/07/2025 12:22

I have kept everything pretty much (apart from badly stained) but we do have an attic. I put them in vacuum bags. My 2nd will be a winter baby (first was a summer baby) so won’t be able to use everything but vests and sleepsuits are worn all year round by newborns so those should be OK. I will even use stuff of the wrong gender as no one cares what colour sleepsuit a baby is wearing at night and vests will be hidden under other clothes in winter anyway. Seems a waste of money to fork out for new stuff that will only get worn for a short time.

Superscientist · 08/07/2025 12:47

I split clothes into two bags ones to keep for future children or siblings children and clothes I'd happily give away to friends as they had kids. There are some sizes where I have given away more than others. I was undecided about a second so this was a half in approach worked for me. I'm expecting my second now and have quite a lot of stuff already but not so much that I can't buy the odd thing that will be just for number 2 whilst also having some favourites from my first.

dontcomeatme · 08/07/2025 12:53

I kept mine and DS2 is currently wearing them, we've hardly had to buy anything this time around it's been great! And so cute going through the photos and seeing them in the same stuff 🥹 I mean c'mon 💙

I kept all mine in vacuum packs in the loft

JustAnInchident · 08/07/2025 12:58

We had limited loft space (in that we don’t have any at all so we’re hijacking part of my in laws loft!) so I put a lot of the basics (vests, plain babygrows, leggings etc) on Vinted and only kept the more ‘special’ bits, the stuff I could still feel him in if I thought about it or things he wore for special/semi-special (birthdays, Mother’s Day, first trip out) occasions etc. I also kept toys and stuff like bouncy chair, Moses basket, cot, pram etc.
I am struggling to know what to keep this time. Husband says no more kids because of my health but I say different 🤣

GloriousBlue · 08/07/2025 13:13

Much better for the environment (and your wallet) to re use. I kept anything that wasn't badly stained or worn. Second child a girl and first a boy, but most clothes can be handed down in the first couple of years. I did buy several new pink vests / dresses / tutus to top her wardrobe up tho!

LBOCS2 · 08/07/2025 13:14

We kept anything that wasn’t stained or had shrunk in the wash. Chucked it all in white bin bags with the age range written on them in sharpie then stuck them in the loft. We had two girls so did reuse quite a lot, and it’s only now that they’re older that I don’t really put things ‘away’ - nowadays elder DD has a clear out, younger one sifts through it for things she likes which then go straight into her wardrobe and the rest go into the charity bag.

mondaytosunday · 08/07/2025 13:16

I didn’t buy much and mostly second hand. I kept a few things and when I found out second baby was a girl I gave away the very boyish clothes. If you have the storage then keep.

minnienono · 08/07/2025 13:18

Yes, kept everything, dd2 had a handful of new things bought by others and one special outfit (more expensive than anything dd1 had) as we had a voucher for a baby boutique as a gift from work

Bitzee · 08/07/2025 13:20

Kept it all but couldn’t actually reuse very much as I had summer born DD followed by a winter born DS. So most of it ended up at the charity shop. I dragged it with me through a house move too which was pointless.

Lillafenete · 08/07/2025 13:56

Yes I kept everything, just seems a waste of money to only get one use out of clothes. Most of our clothes are secondhand but it still costs money! I don't mind dressing the youngest in clothes that are a bit torn or stained, they still function as clothes.
Then I keep them after the last child has outgrown them until I sell on and get my money back.

caringcarer · 08/07/2025 15:06

Tiny baby clothes doesn't get a lot of wear so I kept it and used it again. I didn't keep much from when they were toddlers because it was more worn do I just gave it away or threw out. You can get storage bags which you suck out air from to keep it smaller for storage.

caringcarer · 08/07/2025 15:10

❤️ They look alike. Cute babies.

Unsure4589 · 08/07/2025 15:26

We did, but then we have a huge amount of loft space to store it all in. Then as soon as I found out the sex, I did a second sift and got rid of anything I felt was too gendered and/or that I didn't like as much any more. Baby stuff is easily reworn especially if your first isn't terribly sicky or shitty. I doubt there's much that would last a third after my leaky DS though!

I've since passed on quite a lot to friends with younger babies, and sent some to the charity shop. I can't be arsed with selling on Vinted unless it's a high value item.

Kept all the toys too, and just sent the first bag of newborn bits to the charity today😭
