AIBU - Nursery and Suncream

WIBU to ask nursery not to reapply suncream during the day?

I apply a 12 hour suncream in the morning, they constantly reapply during the day and today I've picked up DD and her (pretty long) hair is greasy and covered in cream, clothes are stained with green/yellow around the neckline.

Her hair is tied up in a pony tail and it's literally stuck to her back.

Nobody is getting enough vitamin d, most people are deficient and everyone should be supplementing at least October - April
it takes way more sun exposure than you think to get levels up and there isn’t enough in food either
building resilience isn’t a thing, I could be outside constantly but I’m a redhead so I’m never going to be tolerant to the sun. A base tan is just damaging skin

Exactly. Your child will get the vitamin D from their supplement. What 3yr old thinks, ‘oh I’ll just sit indoors whilst my friends are playing outside on the climbing frame’?!!! I slather mine in it, they still get ridiculously brown hands.

If the hair is the reason not to protect your child from the sun, cut it short in the summer months.

A 12 hour suncream is not going to actually last 12 hours. It needs to be reapplied frequently. Your child needs to be protected from sun damage.

figure out a way to work in a bath.

@jannier of course we do, that doesn't tend to get in her hair frequently though. I'm not sure I get your point on time though? We do her hair in the morning, and shower/bath her in the evening.

We get home at 6pm cook, eat, play, bath, read, bed. Not much spare time to wash and dry hair there 😆

Why not? Going to be a hell of a lot more to fit in next year.....and wait until she gets nits

@jannier oooh what's happening next year?

"Oh you just wait until she gets nits" 🥴

I have older children (much older), one has caught nits and the other hasn't. It's not a right of passage nor remotely relevant to getting suncream in hair.

But takes hours of combing hair daily much worse than a quick hair wash. The excuses given about time are annoying I've had no time for brushing teeth, meds, breakfast, homework, reading and applying sum cream all thrown out this week.

Perhaps I should politely ask them to keep her hair out of the cream then. We can't wash everyday and it's currently unbrushable as it's stuck together.

Great idea. They can super carefully apply Suncream to 20 kids taking them about an hour to go outside each time they want to.

OP YABU. It’s summer. It’s Suncream. Don’t be that parent.

Start putting your kids hair in a ponytail or plaits if it bothers you (which is cooler for your daughter anyway).

I had a real issue with nursery putting sunscreen on my DD who is allergic to suncream. In the end had to get the dermatologist to tell them to stop, and keep her covered up and out of the sun instead.

They do go a bit mad with it for some reason...

Hmmm I think maybe the reason is health and safety, ofsted rating and duty of care to prevent sunburn but I could be wrong.
