Disposable nappy leaking on a night

geordieminx · 18/05/2008 07:29

DS 13 months has woken up the past few nights absolutely soaking - through his baby gro and this morning through his sleeping bag too. Its waking him up earlier than usual (6am) but he wont go back down.

He's in pampers size 4 which is up to 40lb, he weighs 24.

Any suggestions?

We had this problem and started to change DD before we went to bed, at about 11pm, it didn't take her long to get used to this and doesn't wake up.

StealthPolarBear · 18/05/2008 07:36

GM T seems to go through phases of this and then it just stops, not sure why. Can you at least try the 4+ - I alternate between the 2 sizes depending on what's in the shop / on offer.

Tommy · 18/05/2008 07:37

I would put him in the next size up for night time or try a different brand. I have no idea how much my 15m old weighs but he's been in 4+ for some weeks now

I find pampers leak & don't hold alot, i have been using tesco's flexi nappies & they are fab dd used to leak from pampers but tescos we never have the problem, she has been in them since she was about 3 months she is now 2 & nearly coming out of them, try them they are fab.

ScoobyDoo · 18/05/2008 07:41

Sorry they are called "tesco super fit" these ones

StealthPolarBear · 18/05/2008 07:46

they're the ones I use too, or the essentials, which I prefer as I like the pictures better!
I think when he leaked I was going through a phase of trying Sains and Boots own ones, can't remember the detail but sticking to tesco is easiest for me

StealthPolarBear · 18/05/2008 07:47

obv it's ds who actually uses them

mejon · 18/05/2008 17:50

DD is 21 months, weighs around 21/22lbs and is in size 5 Pampers Baby Dry at night. She started to leak a little in the smaller sizes so I moved up. Daytime she is in Boots Superdry size 4+ though they're quite roomy and we could probably get away with a 4.

VictorianSqualor · 18/05/2008 18:03

I find pampers are shite.
We use tesco ones too, for both 4week old ds and 3yrold ds at night, never had a problem with them.Even the baby leaks in pampers.

VaginaShmergina · 18/05/2008 18:12

When my 8yo DD was a baby the Asda ones were the only ones to hold the volume.

hifi · 18/05/2008 18:31

the only nappies in tesco last week were their own brand so i had to buy, instead of pampers. dd hasnt leaked once since i have been using them.

sophiewd · 18/05/2008 18:32

Isn't it wierd, DD leaked all over in Tesco nappies but fine in Pampers

geordieminx · 21/06/2008 06:59

Ok, 1 month on, we have tried:

Asda own size 4+ & 5 - crap - was up at 5.30 this morning

Tesco own 4 & 5 - not great

Huggies - rubbish rubbish rubbish

Boots - 4 + - not great

At least 2 mornings a week ds is waking up soaked through baby gro/sleeping bag an sheet... its waking us all an hour and a half earlier than normal, and he wont go back down... I am in total dispair now....any ideas??? pleaseeeeeeeeeee

Is it the BabyDry ones you're using or the ActiveFit? I find the BabyDry ones go through the night without any problems.

sweetkitty · 21/06/2008 07:16

Was going to suggest Tesco's sorry I've found them the best, Pampers rubbish.

Only other thing would be to try washables if your up for it, maybe buy 2 or 3 really absorbant ones for nightimes only then you can use more liner to stuff them. I found tots bots good for nights and stuffed them with another liner thing then a wrap, never had a leak.

For me buying a few reusables would be preferable to getting up at 5.30am!

geordieminx · 21/06/2008 07:18

Baby dry

Am starting to think about reusables...

You would think they do night time sanitary towels, they would do similar nappies- huge big thick ones, that arent great for during the day but at least they last through the night.

Perhaps I just have a pishy child with a bladder the size of a grape

laura032004 · 21/06/2008 07:20

Have you tried a larger size Pampers? DS2 has been in a size 5 for bed for a long time (he's nearly 2 now)

Hoonette · 21/06/2008 07:20

Are you still breastfeeding? DS (11 months) is weaned so perhaps not drinking as much as a bf child?

geordieminx · 21/06/2008 07:22

Nope - bottle fed, and yep tried 5's last night and it was worse than ever

OP posts:
Hoonette · 21/06/2008 07:27

Ah, is your DS still having a bottle at night? Or before he goes to bed? That might be making the difference...

It's not very helpful, I know, but I think once they're off the bottles the nappies might last for longer.

(And my DS is 13 months, not 11 )

What we really need is someone who bf until they're 2 to come along and tell us what they did!

emilyandjohn · 21/06/2008 07:41

I breastfed until DS was almost 3. We use cloth nappies (bumpers boosted with microfibre inserts if anyone is interested). Although DS was an extremely heavy wetter they have only leaked very rarely and then always as the result of a "wick" i.e. me not putting the nappy on properly so that it comes in contact with his clothes. He leaked almost every night we put him in disposables, and I tried loads of different types in the largest size I dared.

In the last couple of weeks DS has gone from being totally soaked to dry about 50% of the time at night, and he stopped bfing about a month ago. I don't know if there is a connection or not as he still drinks quite a lot of water before bed

geordieminx · 21/06/2008 07:45

He still gets a dream feed at 12... I think dropping it is probably the way to go - esp as he is nearly 14 months.... but thats a huge hurdle to jump... ARGHHHH

Anyone know how to drop the dream feed?

laura032004 · 21/06/2008 09:27

Would you try a cloth nappy wrap over the disposable if you don't want to go the whole hog with cloth nappies?

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 21/06/2008 09:33

GM - my ds was exactly like this. i was at the end of my tether! i even looked into putting a reusable booster in the disposable to try to curb it. then one day it just stopped. he still has the occassional leak but generally is leak-free.
no advice there, sorry, but just wanted you to know that I've been there too!

reiver · 21/06/2008 14:45

Boots (own brand) sell disposable booster pads which you can put inside a nappy. I found them too bulky for DD but they worked for a friend's LO. Worth a try?

We've had more success using a Motherease training pant over the top of a disposable. It's like a wrap outer but has a terry liner which absorbs any 'overflow'. Certainly has cut down our laundry.
