Easter gifts

What do you buy your kids for Easter? Growing up we only got Easter eggs, it wasn't a big day for us. But for my partner, it was quite big in terms of presents, clothes, toys, money etc. now we have a child of our own it's become a bit of a debate :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mine have no family so one egg from us then a small gift (book, pokemon cards this year) & then the “easter bunny” does a hunt with small eggs for them to find. Our new neighbours handed an egg in this year & they got one at their clubs as well so more this year than normal. Usually £15 odds each.

growing up we got the egg hunt (smaller scale) egg from my mum & dad & some money £2/£3 i think which bought loads of sweets back then! 🤣 each grandparent bought an egg as did 2 aunts and a neighbour so 5 choc eggs maybe.

can you compromise and do the smaller egg and small gift? a book (colouring or sticker books too) or outdoor things like bubble wands and stuff as opposed to expensive big gifts. I did buy mine easter clothes (outfit or pjs when younger but don’t tend to now they’re older)

NewNameBridget · 20/04/2025 10:48

DD is 8.

She gets one big egg and an Easter egg hunt of smaller eggs (usually mini eggs of different varieties in reusable plastic eggs). In her Easter Egg Hunt she sometimes gets small gifts (a rabbit shaped tub of rabbit erasers, a small soft duck toy etc.).

She also gets two more big eggs (one from each set of grandparents).

This year she had two Easter Egg Hunts (we had family visiting so lots of kids in the house on Easter Saturday), so instead of a big egg we got her a lockable journal (she loves that sort of thing).

All in all, it's a lot of chocolate, but she doesn't go completely wild and usually eats it over the course of several weeks.

StampOnTheGround · 20/04/2025 10:57

Just chocolate! I don’t mind the addition of Easter colouring books/stickers/crafts, but grandparents also got DC a bubble wand, dinosaur top and dinosaur crafts too. I removed them from the ‘Easter pile’ and will maybe just get them out later today or another random day. Anything not completely Easter related is bizarre to me - so I’ll thank them for their gifts but they are not coming out on Easter 😂

Just an egg and a few little eggs for an Easter egg hunt

user1471538283 · 20/04/2025 11:14

I used to get an egg and my DF would make a roast.

I used to buy my DS and egg and a toy/game and make a roast when he was younger.

I still buy him an egg now he's a proper grown up (and some small ones in the run up to Easter). I always got my DSD an egg (and some small ones on the run up) but now she's living in a different country I send her money to either buy one or more likely to buy a couple of glasses of wine with!

We eat out for Easter now

Moveoverdarlin · 20/04/2025 11:16

1 Egg, 1 Lindor gold bunny, colouring book and new pencils. Total cost about 12 quid. Some years I buy more, some less.

MumQ8 · 20/04/2025 11:52

My opinion is embrace and enjoy every holiday. I know a lot of people who love Easter more then Christmas. And both holidays are celebrated like big events. I know we all grew up different we had the odd egg hunt then nothing when older. But I love the idea for my DS when older to really embrace every holiday. If your partner grew up with it big, just embrace that. You can budget it so it doesn't become a financial issue. But get gifts, enjoy chocolate, make it a fabulous hunt if you do those.
It's magic to be a child, make it magic.

Is that not a bit weirdly controlling?

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 20/04/2025 14:32

Eggs, jellycat and some new spring pj’s

Icanhearabee · 20/04/2025 14:33

An egg each and a card.

Needmorelego · 20/04/2025 14:43

Picklepower · 20/04/2025 09:16

I'm quite surprised to see people give one egg and no hunt. I thought an Easter egg hunt in the morning was fairly standard

We live in a flat.
There isn't exactly many places to hide eggs.

Needmorelego · 20/04/2025 14:47

Chocolate Egg when she was younger.
Something like a packet of Pokémon cards now older as she prefers that
I've often bought crafts and something like a t-shirt with a bunny on - but if Easter didn't exist I'd be buying those anyway because crafts and clothes are "life" items to me.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/04/2025 14:52

I made my girls (11 and 4) a basket each with a chocolate egg (somewhere between small and medium size), a chocolate bunny, some chocolate Easter coins, a little Easter activity (DD1 a game, DD2 a decoration kit), a new tumbler glass with lid and an Easter outfit each (which will go into circulation with the rest of their outfits before people come at me for fast fashion).

DS (1yo) had the same chocolate wise (small egg), Easter outfit (a baby grow that can go into his usual circulation), Easter cutlery, finger puppets and a book.

Each basket didn’t cost very much but just some little bits to make the occasion special. I would rather that than giving them all masses of chocolate.

Zanatdy · 20/04/2025 14:56

We just had eggs, same for my DC

Allseeingallknowing · 20/04/2025 14:58

BrendaSmall · 20/04/2025 08:54

For the Grandchildren I bought each of them a complete new outfit each, a cuddly toy, and chocolate the 2 that is too young for chocolate has got a book each
my ground up children and their partners got chocolate

Grinding the children is a bit extreme imo!

MumQ8 · 20/04/2025 14:59

@Needmorelego doesn't matter if the space is small. Hide in places, like cupboards, inside a pot, a jacket pocket, behind the pillow or sofa cushions, behind curtains, inside any jar vase. Etc etc

sarahbear87 · 20/04/2025 15:01

they get an egg from us,plus small cream eggs for the egg hunt, I also hid some plastic multicoloured eggs with surprises inside so some have jellies, some have money like 1 or 2 euros. then the Easter bunny brings them a basket each. some small chocs or sweets along with things like a small toy, sticker book, fidgits, dd14 got a gift card and egg from Easter bunny instead.

I did do it once.
Her interest level fizzled out within about 10 seconds though 😂

Ethelflaedofmercia · 20/04/2025 15:19

One egg
I did her an Easter basket too with some pjs, bubbles, a little bunny headband, a book and a lamb soft toy

What? I hid them on top of door frames, in candle holders, on windowsills, a shelf in the bathroom, on top of a lamp etc

caccaragero · 20/04/2025 17:07

Easter has never been a big deal in our family (we aren't religious), and most years we have chocolate eggs that go out of date before they get eaten, so I didn't buy my dcs an egg this year (they have received some from relatives). We've been away on holiday most of the holidays, we attended some free Easter events with crafting and flower planting, attended a theatre show today and we have a day out at an activity farm booked tomorrow which will include an egg hunt.

Daisy12Maisie · 20/04/2025 17:18

I got my 16 year old a small ish egg for £1.50 and made him. Spaghetti bolognaise. We had roast lamb on Friday, not because it’s Easter but because he likes lamb. I didn’t get my 18 year old anything as he is away at the moment and is currently not eating chocolate. We don’t make a big deal of Easter. My mum did drop us off some eggs a few days ago before she went on holiday.

As I said above I did do it once but she wasn't that interested.
She's a very messy child so searching for things is an everyday constant battle 😂😂

mondaytosunday · 20/04/2025 17:57

Chocolate eggs. My neighbours got an
Easter basket with presents though.
